Shot.
Just in case anyone was unaware, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and Florida head coach Dan Mullen are not the best of friends. That puts an added layer to one of college football’s best rivalries. And looks as if Mullen threw some more kerosene on the fire Monday when he was discussing transfers.
While talking to reporters, Mullen appears to take a shot at Georgia, more specifically how everything unfolded regarding quarterback Justin Fields, who one of the most high profile players to enter the new college football transfer portal following the 2018 regular season.
“I’d think we did a poor job recruiting if guys were coming in and then immediately walking out the door because it was something different than what they thought it would be and we lied to them during recruiting, or we sold them on a dream that wasn’t true,” Mullen said, according to Thomas Goldkamp of Swamp247.
Chaser.
Is there such a thing as self-snarkery? If not, there should be.
The perfect ending here would be for Georgia to sign Steele. Don’t laugh, Warren recruited him when he was still at UF. Listening, football gods?

UPDATE: Well, this isn’t good.
Florida freshman cornerback Chris Steele is transferring from the school.
The former five-star recruit has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. Steele met with UF coach Dan Mullen on Wednesday night and informed him, a source close to the situation told The Sun.
The decision stems from a request Steele made to the staff during his first month on campus, the source said. He asked to be moved to a different dorm because he was uncomfortable rooming with quarterback Jalon Jones, his classmate.
The staff did not plan to move Steele until the summer, which upset Steele and his parents, according to the source.
Then two female students accused Jones of sexual assault in the players’ dorm rooms on April 6. That prompted Steele to seek a transfer.
Jones has not been charged but has left the school.
Regarding Steele’s decision to transfer, the Florida football program had no official comment on Thursday.
That’s funny. Mullen’s usually not at a loss for words.
Sounds like a slam dunk transfer waiver request, too.

UPDATE #2: Jesus, there are some morons on the Florida staff (Assistant Director of Player Personnel and Development).
Dude. Dude. Wish the kid well and STFU.
Mullen think’s he channelling Spurrier, but he’s really channelling Junior taking jabs at his former boss. This just keeps getting better and better.

I was thinking he was channeling Reggie Ball, that guy was the all-time leader in empty threats.

It’s all a part of Dan the Man’s Master Plan. While distracting Georgia with recruiting setbacks, the lopsided losses in Jax, and those terrific zingers- Kirby’s s bundle of nerves, just wondering when the next one’ll come- he and Bianchi are secretly closing the gap.

So they’ve lost two of their top four players from what was only a pretty good class by SEC standards to start with. This does make me wonder just what was going on with Jones and how long the staff knew about it before the sexual assault allegations arose.

*3 – sounds like they will be losing Jones (to the big house) shortly as well…

No charges filed. So nope. Mullen pulled out the Corch Irvin Meyers Special with the GPD to make that happen, I’m sure.

So he’s not (yet) eligible to transfer to Alabama or Auburn.

This is one of the ‘unintended’ consequences of the Transfer Portal – It gives the student athlete more leverage. Don’t like your roomate (or more likely don’t want to be part of sexual assault investigation)? Coaches won’t listen to you or make the change? – Find a coach that will.

I ask you — who among us would not want to be part of a sexual assault investigation? What a prima donna.

I apologize. I was unclear in my post. In NO WAY was I trying to imply he was a prima donna – I totally agree with him. I was attempting to impart there are always unintended consequences. Where prior to the portal, a kid was stuck with what the coach said, now they have recourse. That’s a good thing.

I got your original intent. It wasn’t as if Steele was saying, “let me evade this,” it was more like, “this dude is f’ed up and if the coaches won’t get involved I’ve got to get out of here.”

So Steele sounds like a good kid. Found out his roommate was a piece of shit and didn’t want to be associated with him. Sometimes that’s hard to do at his age. Asked his program to help him out and they slow walked it, so he said “I’m gone”. Sign him up Kirby!

I’d think we did a poor job recruiting if guys were coming in and then immediately walking out the door because they tried to rape a girl or weren’t listened to when they wanted to get away from a guy who turned out to be an attempted rapist.

Simmons didn’t just punch a woman. He was beating a woman who was already in the fetal position on the ground. With that tape, I have no idea how he did not end up in prison… especially in Mississippi.
He was suspended for a game, though. That seems fair. /s
