    And Clemson’s average ranking was 11 during that period (2)….but yeah, the rich is getting richer.

      If you bothered to read the linked article, you might learn something.

      When compared to some of the other top programs, Swinney has tended to sign smaller classes than what we’re used to seeing at Ohio State and certainly in the SEC. Clemson’s recent recruiting rankings haven’t been all that spectacular for a perennial power, but a lot of that can likely be attributed to the number of signees (though the 29 in 2019 was an outlier).

        What is you think that I don’t know (article)???

        I looked at the chart and my first thought was 2 MNC (Clemson) in that period . Also the average ranking during that time. I also made comment on their #1 ranking so far….hence, “the rich get richer”.

        But we want talk about that, cause they ain’t signed yet…right??

    So, when players get paid, will there be a salary cap to serve as an unofficial “scholarship” cap? Because otherwise the best teams just pay them all, right?

        NFL has a salary cap on players. No cap on coaches or owners to the best of my knowledge. Somehow the rich (New England) keeps getting richer and richer.

            You were the one who brought up “no salary cap on coaches or AD’s” in response to Dawgfans remark about salary cap when players get paid. I merely pointed out that in a league with a salary cap on players, the levels above the players has no salary cap just like you referenced in regards to coaches and AD’s. The NE reference is easy to figure out. Some will rise above whatever limitations you place on them while others will wallow in futility (ie the Falcons). Pay the players in college and have a cap, and coaches like NIck , Kirby, Dabo, and a few others will figure out how to prosper. Side Show Dan and his ilk will struggle no matter what.

              The NFL has a salary cap and an antitrust exemption. College football has neither. Assuming somebody like Kessler eventually prevails in court, without an antitrust exemption, conferences could impose a cap, but not college football as a whole. So, I don’t get your point here.

      This was actually my first thought as well. I wonder if the NCAA (or some equivalent body) will institute a salary cap in addition to the scholarship cap. If so, it might actually serve to distribute the cream of the crop players a little more.

      I am actually of the opinion that if they are going to pay players, then there should be a draft. Don’t ask me the details of how this would work. The Senator is holding my plan in escrow.

        Antitrust laws prohibit combinations in restraint of trade, which include salary caps. The NFL has an exemption from congress and Major League Baseball an exemption from a US Supreme Court decision.
        The NCAA has neither.

    There certainly won’t be any greater imbalances in a pay for play market, especially if we ignore that obvious reality REAL hard! It’s always an ostrich-based analysis that convinces me.

    Where’s the numbers for Florida? Intertube scuttlebutt (take fwiw) says they’re gaining ground on Georgia. Even by signing no 5* and less 4*.

      Recruiting rankings are based on TOTAL points of the class, not AVERAGE points per player. By signing smaller classes, they are guaranteeing that they never will win, but by signing a higher number of superior players, the point is still apt.

    When they created a 4 team playoff, one of my first thoughts was that the top programs were going to clean up in recruiting like never before because there will only be a handful of programs that regularly appear there, or have any chance of getting a bid, actually.

    Alabama can tell recruits they’ve been in 5 of 5 playoffs, 4 of 5 championship games and won 2. Clemson can tell them they’ve been in 4 of 5 playoffs, 3 of 5 championship games, and won 2.

    How are Florida, Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan, and every other program that’s been down or even on the doorstep going to compete with that?

    I could be wrong, but it’s my understanding that it’s not just a handful of teams consolidating the top of the recruiting world, but that the gap between them and even teams that finish with top 10 classes fairly regularly is widening.

    The idea that a 4 team playoff would create opportunities for the little program to get into the title game was always a pipe dream.
