Such a tease

I hope everyone realizes he’s not directing that comment towards us, but towards the City of Jacksonville.

In other words,

UPDATE:  Message received, apparently.

There are many people posting on FB groups hoping this happens. I hope it does not this game and The Red River Rivalry are big deals. The game has been Jacksonville almost a hundred years.

Agreed keep it in Jax, allow the “home” team to host recruits.

Agree to keeping it in JAX, no brainer. Not so sure about letting one side have an edge, perhaps limit the number and let both sides bring a few recruits. Bigger advantage certain years, imo, plus they cannot spend that much time with the recruits in an away environment. I don’t think FU even leaves Gainesville until the morning of the game. I don’t care if either team uses it to recruit, and think it lacks what having them on campus would be like; but if one does, the other should get to as well.

From the collection of comments over the past year, it doesn’t sound like Kirby has much love for Jacksonville.

the gators play in the worst stadium in the sec
anyone that wants us to play in that dump has lost their damn mind
hopefully this is just saber rattlin for Jax to break out the checkbook

I just don’t see anyway around this, as the annual game in J’ville will be scrapped sooner than later. As it stands now, UGA will only have FIVE home games in ’23, ’25, ’27 and ’29 due to the recently signed home and home match-ups with UCLA, Texas, Clemson, OU, and FSU. Meanwhile, our SEC rivals are continuing to schedule 7-8 home games yearly for the foreseeable future.

I’m not as much of a so-called insider these days, but from what I previously heard, it was a matter of when, not if, the annual cocktail party in Jville would end. I think a home-home-J’ville type of setup, with the game being played in Jville every 3rd year might be the only chance of keeping that tradition going in any sense.

I want to go to the Swamp, hang half a hundred on them, then declare all future match-ups will be 2 for 1 in Athens or we’re replacing them with UCF…in Jax.

As long as the phrase “they make more money in Jacksonville than either would with a home game” is true, the game in Jacksonville is safe. Follow the money.

  7. Bright Idea

Sure move it. Fans would love to pay a couple of hundred on the secondary market for the game in Gainesville instead of $75 in Jacksonville as long as we can host some 5-stars every other year in Athens.

  8. If you quietly put your ear to the ground and listen to CKS…it appears as though “crootin” against FU @ home, while hangin’ half a 100 on the score board is more of value than adding to the UGA checking account…he’s proven if cash is needed, dinner with a select few will get the desired effect……

  9. I don’t even go to Jacksonville anymore, and I want the game to stay right there until FU begs for it to move. Who cares about the extra game for recruiting purposes? I don’t want that jort-and-tank-top-wearing, 1990-is-when-CFB-started fan base in Sanford Stadium ever again.

The loss of the game in Jacksonville will be one more step to sending me to the golf course on fall Saturdays.

Let it be a recruiting weekend for both teams and the problem is solved, no?

As much as I love the Jacksonville tradition, I sure hope the city isn’t handing out a big subsidy to host this game. They better be making a lot more than the payout to justify spending millions to host a game.

  12. Granthams replacement

Kirby wants the recruiting weekend and mcgoofy doesn’t have the balls to make that happen in JAX. It will be home and home when this contract expires. Ironically it would be a great recruiting advantage if they could bring recruits there. Partner with the jaguars to show how to get to the league via UGA. Maybe the next AD will be more than a short sighted cost manager who has vision.
