Dawg fans, note in particular that big open box at 8PM on September 21st.
If that’s for the ND game, we should be playing them in the afternoon so all those big northern boys wilt in the heat.
And I like how they listed the game on November 2nd.

It will be a hopefully glorious butt kicking I will cherish as long as I live. Normally I don
t enjoy kickoff
s that late. For this game it`s a perfect setting for an EPIC tailgate day.LikeLike
I’m the event coordinator for the Northeast Georgia Mountain Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association. If the Notre Dame game falls in that 8 pm slot, look for us to host a game watching party at the drive-in theatre in Tiger, GA. You’ll be able to come early, bring your tents, TVs, grills, cocktails, etc. and tailgate. They’ll even let you camp out if you’ve had too much to drink. Great place to watch the game with fellow Dawgs if you can’t go to the game and a helluva good time!

Here I am with a couple of degrees from UGA and a 15-year Rabun resident, yet I have never heard of or from this chapter. Never knew it existed until I read this post. How are events like this being publicized, other than here at GTP?

No word yet on the Vandy kick off time?
UGA is looking to have the 8:00 slot for ND. I know 3:30 is usually the big game but I can see them moving to prime time.

That Vandy game has (SEC NET or ESPN) night game written all over it.

Matt Sarzyniak has it pegged as a noon ESPN game:

Looks like ESPN is already confirmed for Boise/FSU at 7. Also, Oregon/Auburn is at 7:30 on ABC; there is a lot of overlapping interest between the Auburn and Georgia games and Mickey may not want to split it up.
However, this release throws a wrench in some of Saryzniak’s predictions; he has UNC @ USC as the 3:30 CBS game and as we see, they didn’t sublicense the first two weeks from ESPN this year. I guess the question is whether that game is more compelling than Georgia/Vandy; if so, it could bump us down the pecking order. I think he may be right, though, as I bet ESPN would love to roll into a national contender at the end of Gameday.

Why would they bother to schedule Bama vs USCe and Mizzou vs Arky this far out? Semi-interesting cross-division games with no other good SEC games?

There are two conference games on 9/14 and Alabama is by far the most compelling team of the four playing that day.
Missouri/Arkansas was moved to Friday 11/29. It’s the only conference game that day.

Bama and SC are the first game of the year, so they can go ahead and pick it now. Mizzou and Arkansas has apparently replaced LSU and Arkansas as the Friday after Thanksgiving game. No other game to compete with it in that slot.

Week 1 game, might as well schedule it now. The other (Mizzou/Ark) is the day after Thanksgiving, and a Friday. Note the Saturday game the next day is still open.

Wow, no CBS game the first 2 weeks of the season. That’s a bit of a shocker. They’ve been showing games in those weeks the last few years – ever since they stopped showing US Open tennis (ESPN shows the entire tournament now).
Wonder why?

The SEC deal with CBS is from when CBS did the US Open the first two weeks. CBS can broadcast on those weeks but they have to buy the game from ESPN.

They chose not to buy games those 2 weeks then. Kind of surprising since they’ve been doing it.
ESPN took over the US Open starting in 2015. In 2015, 2016, and 2018, CBS showed a game the first 2 weeks of the season. In 2017, they showed a game the 2nd week but not the 1st. So out of those 8 possible weeks in the last 4 years, they only missed/passed on one.

It is pretty odd. Do you think it is a sign that ESPN is going to be competitive for the traditional Saturday CBS game or are the first two weeks that lackluster?

No idea. Could be a lot of things.
Thanks for the info about CBS’ contract still not covering the first 2 weeks.

Surprised, and very happy about that ND game being at night. I am fine with the noon time for Vandy likelihood for the opener, prefer to play no SEC team away at night (I also want to see the AU/Oregon game that night so didn’t want the usual SEC overlap on Saturday night.) We did LSU a favor since they will get Bama at 3:30 in Tusky. Excitement beginning to build with just 94 days to opening Saturday!
