It’s Smart’s fourth season, so data like this shouldn’t startle me when I see it, but, still…
UGA is entering its first season, however, where the roster will be made up almost completely of players Smart has recruited. The 43-year-old head coach just inked his fourth class and there are really only three players, Michael Barnett (nose tackle), Tae Crowder (inside linebacker), and Rodrigo Blankenship (place-kicker), who were signed by the previous staff.
We’ve come a long way from the cratering of the 2013 class, eh? And still managed a couple of thrilling seasons in the meantime.
I was 12 when UGA won the natty. I remember where I was when Larry broke his chair. But, at 12 I didn’t have the experience of time.
As a lifelong fan, I can say that the last two seasons are my favorites. YMMV

2017 yes. Last season though just never really felt “right” to me.

Yeah no I’m not knocking it. I knew we had a very good football team, but just watching some of those early games, it just felt like something was a little off. Take Mizzou for example. It’s been discussed here at length how eerie of a two touchdown win that was. Then as mentioned above; LSU.
It was a satisfying season, but satisfying like you slept with your step sister, not satisfying like you slept with a super model.

I was in eyeball deep in post hurricane operations so I didn’t get to see it. Then I saw the score and had no desire to dive deeper into it.

247 missed one. Justin Young was on Richt’s 2015 team, according to his Georgiadogs biography.

Hot Rod wasn’t actually signed by CMR, was a walk on his redshirt season so technically it is two players. Yeah that is splitting hairs, and I don’t think Crowder was ever used as a LB while Richt was there, but may be wrong about that. So it is pretty much a total Smart team this coming season for those who like to divide things into segments rather than look at this as UGA’s program.

I will always be the most grateful for the 2017 season (so far). That was the most special year – going all the way to the National Championship game with a freshman quarterback. Not anticipated or expected at all. That is what was so exciting. Kirbs is the man for that and for keeping the momentum going! GO DAWGS!
