Saw this a couple of days ago.
Georgia’s linebacker play fell off last season after the departure of 2017 SEC Defensive Player of the Year Roquan Smith.
Rice, a 6-foot-1, 235-pounder, never could get on track last season after suffering a pulled hamstring in the 2018 spring game.
Rice suffered a sprained knee in days leading up to the Sept. 22 Missouri game, an injury that lingered.
“Monty gives us a tough, physical presence,” Kirby Smart said last October. “I don’t know that he’s 100 percent still. I think he’s getting there.”
Rice looked much better — and so did Georgia — during a key stretch against Florida, Kentucky and Auburn. He had eight tackles or more in each game — including a career-high 11 stops against Florida — as the Bulldogs played arguably their best football of the season.
Rice, only a sophomore last season, was appointed a team captain for the Nov. 17 UMass game, only to suffer a foot injury during warmups that essentially sidelined him the remainder of the season.
Rice’s health looks like something to keep an eye on in August.
This may be the best defense we’ve ever fielded. Definitely the most talented and fastest. It’s going to take some damn good qb play to challenge this bunch. They are going to flat destroy some teams.
QB play should be slightly improved in the East, but where are the backs and receivers? Who has anyone of note at those spots?

I feel good about this D, especially after the newbies log in more time on the field. A healthy Rice is needed for contribution and leadership. With this much talent we can only scheme our way out of winning games.

Idk if it’s the best defense but it’s definitely one of the deepest with a really high upside. Rice being out hurt us last season because we had sub par replacements like Taylor and a diminished Patrick, but with Tindall and Walker coming into year two and Dean hitting the ground running I think Rice will be able to take his time coming back. This is one year that I’m glad we’re opening with Vandy and two cupcakes. Hopefully we’ll be able to give these young guys some game experience.

Yeah, I agree Sides. Not a fan of the computer icon logo. Just another way to squeeze a few bucks out of people with something new.

Agreed on the bulldog head. Anyone else prefer the old block G to the one we borrow from Green Bay?

Yesir I do.

I feel the consensus is that most fans have accepted the Greenbay G, but I’d jump on board with a movement to revert back to the old G pretty quickly if there was a big enough contingency.

Yeah it’s probably too far gone by now. Too much has been spent marketing the current one. Plus it’s been around so long it would be hard to find enough folks that would want to revert back to the original.

Oh, I agree. The Power G, or whatever it’s called, leaves me cold. I’ll take the Georgia G, the big block, over the Green Bay G any day. Slick graphics are boring (says a boring white guy).

I think they called it super G when I was in school.
Guys, I think we might have the foundations of a movement here. Keep it up and we might be able to make enough noise to get McGarity to ignore us.

This may be a make or break year for Monty. He’s a fierce tackler, but he needs to get over that injury bug. Too many good young ILBs waiting for their chance – Tindall, Walker, Dean, Rian Davis, etc. If Rice goes down he might not break the starting lineup again. But when Rice is healthy he’s a beast.

I remembered being concerned when Rice was unavailable for the Yech game. That concern abated minutes after kickoff, however. This 2019 LB corps should terrify the east.

I hope he can get healthy. He’s a force to be reckoned with.

Sure could’ve used him in the SECCG.
Stay healthy, young buck.

What exactly is the nature of his injury that is still extending this far into the year.

That may be the only thing he hasn’t injured.
