Pete Fiutak’s 2019 prediction for Georgia Tech’s regular season has the Jackets clinching bowl eligibility before the season finale with Georgia.
Even with the general state of affairs in the ACC, I find that a tad optimistic. What I’m hoping for is that Georgia rolls into Atlanta facing a 5-6 Jackets squad needing a win on Mark Richt Field to qualify for a bottom rung bowl game. No mercy, of course.
They will probably beat Citadel and Temple, and MAY win one of the other games marked with a “W” above, but that’s about all I can see. I don’t see how Fiutak came up with this list.

There are 3 wins at best on that schedule. Unless Fech seriously improves on defense, there is no way they will be able to outscore people this year.

I’m thinking about popping over to root on El Cid and a winless year on The Flats.

Fiutak missed the loss prediction on October 26.

This seems about as optimistic and it gets. I think 4-8 seems more likely, but Collins knows defense. Perhaps he can get GT to squeeze out a game or two they shouldn’t win, but that would surprise me.

Man, those predictions really, really, really under emphasizes the impact of shifting from the triple option to a traditional offense. I think 2019 is going to be a bloodbath and I will be happy to watch.

There’s not a W on that schedule which is guaranteed except the Citadel.

The Citadel upset South Carolina in 2015 and hung with Bama for a half last year. So I wouldn’t count them out against Tech this year. How ironic would it be if The Citadel’s option offense upset Collins’ first team?

I hope that one is on TV. Could be fun to watch.

Fiutak must be one dumb sob if he thinks gtu is gonna beat FSU and Pitt.

And a rapidly improving NC State.

Even if NC State is at best average by their historical standards — and historically, they’ve been about the most average team you can think of — they should destroy Tech this year.

Georgia Tech will not beat South Florida. That’s ridiculous. The Bulls beat Tech last year when the Jackets were still running an offense suited to their roster. This year, Tech is going to be trying to force a square peg into a round hole on offense, and while they aren’t going to be trying to reinvent the wheel on defense they weren’t able to hold up enough against USF last year so why would that be different this year?
I also sincerely doubt that Tech can beat North Carolina. Also, Jeff Collins built something good enough at Temple to get himself the job in Atlanta, so why are we assuming that one’s a cake walk (and no, the name “Jeff” is not spelled with a G)?

As far as defense goes,

Pete must be a glass totally full guy. No way Tech beats USF or Pitt.

I’m not sure where all the USF love is coming from. They finished last season on a six-game losing streak. The reason they beat Tech was because of two kickoffs returned for TDs. Tech gained over 600 yards on that defense.

With the complete overhaul being undertaken, it’s possible they only get the win over The Citadel. And even that isn’t a given.

USF, Pitt, and NCSU are all likely losses. Carolina is going to be bad, but, that’s a potential 3-2 game that sets back football a couple of decades. I think that GTU is among the first teams eliminated from bowl eligibility, possibly before they hit their Open Date.

GT doesn’t get 6 wins and probably not 5 wins.

I hope they lose all of them.

GT starts off 2-3 at best, then it goes downhill from there.

Who ever this guy is, he is the most optimistic SOB that I have encountered in a long time. If what he predicts even comes close to happening, then the NERDs should be celebrating with a big Dungeons and Dragons party.

USF, Pitt, N.C St, N.C. can be losses. Hell, I think they will lose two OPEN DATEs as well.

I’m not sure Tech beats Citadel. They will win one game…who knows who, but it will be a huge upset. Like the year Curry’s Tech beat Alabama, and then went winless.

Me thinks it all starts with game 1…should that game be over at half time or middle of the 3rd qtr., game 1 could linger for a while…as previously blogged, ist year coach (even if the d is better, the o struggle will be to much to overcome, TURNOVERS will spell disaster), the change from a totally different o system to one more noticeable…all that mileage used in april and may will be totally gassed by late sept. into mid oct…..stick a fork in those Bitches, they be done…
