“Then it all fell off the cliff.”

If Jimbo Fisher didn’t exist, either FSU or Willie Taggart would have to invent him.

And without Jameis Winston, Fischer would be working at the car wash now.

Absolutely unreal. I could believe this about Nicholls or some small school but FSU? Geez!

Well, to his credit, Jimbo more or less just quit recruiting his last year. I’ll never understand why he didn’t just go to LSU like he wanted.

Never understood the hire of Taggert, he was not even a .500 coach before he was hired. Thinks that he better prove out this year or he is …….gone.

Taggert turned around several programs. That mess last year was all a gift from Fisher. It will take a while to unscrew the mess Jimbo left. I hope he’s in the middle of screwing A&M the same way.

I hear you, just don’t think those FSU folks will be too patient. Hope they fall on their ass again…mo better for UGA.

We’ve missed some key recruits thru the years to them.

No FSU fan, but Taggert seems like a good guy to me (unlike Fisher who always seemed slimy, especially after coddling Jameis Winston). The article sounds like they are prepared to give Taggert a fair shot.

Hope he succeeds, but honestly don’t really know how good he is. Seems like a good guy but OL problems are long term fixes, no magic cure. The admin may be behind Taggert but once you lose recruiting momentum and losses pile up, even the most rabid fan has a tough time staying the course and not pursuing some quick-fix artist. Looks rough to me, maybe not TN rough, but several years.

Russ, I don’t know where the props for Taggert are coming from – he’s a middle of pack, at BEST, head coach. That is proven at WKY, SFLA and Oregon…..and FSWU. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know FSWU has NO offensive line – yet FSWU has ONE OL commit this year. What HC would not be putting emphasis on the OL in their situation. Word on the street is kids are shying away from FSWU anyway. He is BUST material…..and the folks in Hassee will not tolerate another 5-7.

He seemed like a good guy to me too. Then he went and hired a Briles.

I think you’re dead on about WT. He has almost always taken HC jobs that were trainwrecks and had them competing in year 2-3. I have to say, though, they were a mess going in to their last game and a lot of it looked like coaching. That’s keeping in mind that the LOS imploded on them.

As far as him being a good guy, the episode with poor leadership in S&C at Oregon that led to multiple players in the hospital with rhabdo probably would have scratched him off my list. It shows a lack of oversight and focus in an important area of improvement/health. Then he went and hired the Briles kid? I’m not sure about “good guy.”

He might be in over his head at FSU (a different animal than WKU or USF). If he is, he’ll get a nice check and rebound at an AAC program at some point. Not too bad a life, honestly.

I’d rather have FSU giving UF some competition than just sitting there doing nothing, though.

Okay, the Oregon S&C fiasco, along with hiring a Briles, says I should probably reconsider my “good guy” comment. Fisher is still a slime-ball.

As for his coaching performance, he turned around WKY and USF. WKY lost 26 straight before he came in and went 2-10, 7-5, 7-5. USF went 2-10, 4-8, 8-5 and 10-2 in his 4 years there. Both were solid coaching performances. Wasn’t at Oregon long enough to show anything. Same so far at FSU, though they were turrble (to quote Barkley) last year.

Typical sports reporting, focusing on QB and emotion. Fischer under recruited OL and stuck with an OL coach many wanted gone. Taggert has under recruited OL as well.

He recruited plenty of offensive linemen, including a fair number of 4-stars over his last three classes. That they weren’t worth a shit is a separate issue. I think he was too loyal to mediocre or even bad assistants, and then he checked out that last year, causing all sorts of problems.

I’ve thought for a while that Fisher was a sleaze. Coddled Jameis Winston, gave every indication of having one foot out the door the minute Deondre Francois got hurt in the 2017 opener against Bama. He’s going to pull some shady shit at TAMU, too (assuming he hasn’t started already); the only question is whether the Aggie higher-ups are so starved for football relevance they’ll let him get away with it.

Suppose your wife was planking a masseuse from FU that you hadn’t vetted … And, until identified, wasn’t sure it wasn’t Jameis? Suppose some asshole fans thought it would be cute to shout that down to you and your players during and after a game?

You can’t judge anyone’s life until you have walked a mile in their shoes (or in Jimbo’s case, in his wife’s weekly scant masseuse outfit) of public (mixed with stingingly embarrassing private) news in that life. You start your year with ‘Bama to defend your NC and your starting QB goes down? Facing recruits in their homes to impress what a big family you are was taken off the table (plus a few more things he couldn’t control, would have been a disaster larger than he had even already experienced as karma for Jameis not being punished.).

There still remains the spectre of someone showing up with a sign this year that reads: “Jimbo, do you know where your new wife is today?”.

A&M won’t be complicit if Jimbo begins to ignore discipline because their cadet corps wouldn’t allow it. Discipline is what that military school is all about.

If you think Auburn is “all in”, the Aggies say “hold my beer”. If Jimbo wins, he can do whatever he likes.

All the other sleazy points made aside, my dislike for Fisher fully blossomed when I saw the video of him tacitly approving of a FSU fan being shoved and manhandled out of a presser because he asked a hardball question. Allowing that when he could have stopped it with one word was low class.
I hate it because I’ve always kind of admired TA&M and they could do the world a favor by beating Clemson this year.

It wasn’t even a presser, it was a Q&A with fans at a bar and grill. And it was a middling staffer that kept pushing the fan out, just because he kept pressing Jimbo for an answer about how committed he was to staying at FSU. I would have given that staffer one warning about putting his hands on me. The fan would have been perfectly justified for turning and dropping that prick for the way he was being shoved in the back.

Was never impressed with Jimbo as a HC on the field, long before the fall off in OL did him in. I know many of you focus on the off field situations but he was weak on the sideline. Too many get a pass for a “lightening strike” MNC season, just as many get painted “can’t get over the hump” in the big games if they don’t get that 1-2 breaks others do. Measure them on the macro, not the micro, almost every single MNC team has that one great play that kept their hopes alive. Usually more about the jimmies and joes than the HC, imo. Yeah, Saban is a different animal.

Never thought very much of Jimbo, but now if possible, I think even less. Taggart on the other hand seems like a pretty stand up guy.

From Hosford to Panacea to Alligator Point to Eastpoint to Apalachicola to St George to Port St Joe to Indian Pass and even Dog Island (can’t speak for ‘Noles west of Mex Beach) are ready to 86 WT.
It is crazy to see the glazed, confused look in their war hawk/scalp taking eyes. The war drums are eerily quiet in the eastern panhandle.

  11. Fisher left a smoldering crater in the F$U roster at quarterback and the offensive line. Taggart’s coaching last year seemed to take the problems and make it worse.

I hope Fisher fails beyond imagination at TAMU not because I have any hate for the Aggies (have a number of friends who are A&M grads) but because Jimbo is one of the bad guys in college sports today.
