The 84

Groo has compiled this handy eligibility chart of Georgia’s current roster.

(Projected starters in bold.  “R” denotes previous redshirt.)

There’s an impressive amount of depth stacked up in the lower classes, with a few exceptions, like tight end with its worrisome gap.  You have to figure there are a few juniors who will be leaving early for the NFL, so it remains to be seen what kind of final numbers Smart will have to fill with the next signing class.

What’s especially impressive is how there are very few older players who don’t play. There’s an ugly side to roster management, but it has worked very efficiently. A couple of the older OL might get passed over by younger guys, but that’s about it.

Older players contribute while younger players get developed.

  2. My only qualm about Groo’s table is the selection of defensive starters. Due to the number of spread teams we play, I think it makes more sense to understand who starts in a 4-2-5/3-3-5 alignment.

The star is going to be on the field a lot, and the money (dime) in a 4-1-6/3-2-6 will be in for long yardage.

Groo doing yeoman’s work. Much appreciated!

I like the look of that list, too. I sure hope Fromm comes back for another NC next year. That would sure ease the QB situation greatly.

I think he does. He gets to go to Tuscaloosa in Sept 2020 for a once in a lifetime feat. And the team will be even more loaded than this year.

If ever a player who might stick around a fourth year in spite of a high draft grade, I think it would be Fromm. My impression is he has an ingrained love for his team and university like few others, and an appreciation for college life in Athens that he realizes is going to be hard to say goodbye to even as a graduating senior. But I don’t know him, and I’m a bit of a dreamer.

Have we recruited any placekickers? Rod ‘s gonna be tough to replace.

    Thanks, Groo.

A player has to be a grad or 21 to declare for the draft, amirite? Eighteen yrs old players wouldn’t turn 21 until their Senior year, amirite? How many of these 3-yr players not noted as red-shirt will be 21 and eligible to declare for the NFL?

Ojulari projected as a starter at LB? Not dissin the guy, but that would be a bigger surprise than Zeus coming back and gaining a 1,000 yards.

I’m guessing they have him projected at OLB. I thought, Cox, Walker or Anderson would have been listed ahead of him.

Only 84? One roster spot unfilled?! Kirby’s been slacking off!
One last look through the transfer portal list…
Or does a PWO get rewarded with a scholly?

Yeah that’s the spot opened by Holloman. I presume a WO gets the spot this late. I knew it wouldn’t be a guy in the portal with more than a year left to play, Kirby wants that scholly for the next class. I thought maybe an option would be to grab a grad transfer QB from the portal to have an extra practice arm, especially with Mathis not cleared for contact. It would’ve had to be someone pretty far down the list though. A guy just looking for a change of scenery, not looking for much playing time .

I hope the coaches play Stetson Bennett and D’wan Mathis in mop up a lot this season, particularly early in the year. We really need the backup QBs to get some experience.

The LB and Secondary depth and talent is unbelievable. The 2020 defensive is really going to be something.

I thought Isaiah Wilson was a RS Sophomore, no? Either way, if he keeps improving like he has been then he might as well be a senior. He’s exactly what NFL teams love to use a first round draft pick on.
