“The answer is unknowable.”

I gotta tell you, as a Georgia fan, there are few things more enjoyable than a look back at Tennessee football over the last decade, starting with those memorable fourteen months (was it really that long?) of Junior.

Those were the days, my friends.

Those were the days my friend
    We thought they’d never end
We’d sing and dance forever and a day
We’d live the life we choose
    We’d fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way
La la la la la la
La la la la la la

Yet, amazingly, he utterly embarrassed UGA in his one and only meeting against us, winning something like 38-12. Some of you may recall they kept running that wheel route over and over and over, and WillieMart never bothered to adjust or do anything about it. And in typical Lane fashion, he twisted the knife further after the game, stating that UGA did exactly everything they thought we’d do on both O and D, and he was surprised how the UGA coaches never made any adjustments.

With that said, I still laugh at Lane’s feud with Meyer, and the way he left the UT program with an insult: “UT is a top 20 program….USC is a top 3 one…the choice was easy for me” (paraphrasing). Boy that really riled them up.

Is it expecting too much to hope that those days are not really over?
I want to see Vanderbilt extend that winning streak into the next decade and beyond. Tennessee will be expected to beat Vandy this year, but not because Tennessee is much improved but because Vandy is rebuilding.

  5. MY favorite UT story is after the” hobnail boot” game a well dressed middle aged lady wearing Georgia apparel is walking down the endless ramp from the nosebleed seats(such as they are) in Neyland stadium and yells out to the crowd, in general, “how long has it been since Georgia won in Knoxville?” Some obese, disgruntled. community service orange wearing UT fan yells back,” It’s been twenty years”. The lady, without missing a beat and in a proper southern manner responds “O no, young man, its only been ten minutes”

Think of how utterly stoked we were after the 2000 and 2001 wins. That seems like another universe now.

The 2000 game was the absolute craziest night I’ve ever spent in Sanford Stadium, but the 2001 game changed the SEC East. P-44 Haynes ended Tennessee as a big dog in the east. Yes, I know they were good one or two times after that, but they owned us prior to 2000 and Richt just stomped it all out right there. For all I care, they can have that hail mary from ’16 and love it all they want.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to disagree witth you here. ’16 was the very first game I took my new step-son to. And his 11th Birthday. I can’t recall another situation where my emotions were so quickly whipsawed.

00′ and 01′ were my freshman and sophomore years at UGA. And I’m a Tennessee native (who never liked them) so it was extra extra special. Ran on to the field at Sanford with everyone else in just my 3rd game ever between the hedges. Sat front row in Neyland when the emotions of the crowd careened like an out of control roller coaster. At an 12Noon game.

          Good times indeed.

Vanderbilt has beaten Tennessee in five of their last seven meetings.

I know this isn’t news and that most are well aware, but I don’t feel like this gets repeated often enough.

    That’s also true.

While I don’t give a rat’s ass about the vowels, I will say that Booch made me love to read about them! Entertainment weekly if not daily! I sure miss him not being Junior and LuLu’s leader! No fruit sucks like the big orange!

I don’t know since it’s a tossup between the garbage can and the dog statue.

I still maintain that they should have named the sewage treatment plant “Kiffen”

What’s the bigger story here? Firing Fulmer or hiring Kiffin? The fact that Fulmer returned to grace and is now AD makes me wonder if they’re still chasing down a rabbit hole on Rocky Top. Returning to their roots may be more important than improving the program.

I really don’t know what their long term prospects are. Can they count on a growing Nashville metro base as a pipeline like we have historically done with Atlanta. Not so sure. For one, it’s not nearly as close geographically (180mi) which I do think makes a difference when you couple that with a natural geographic disadvantage in that it’s a linear east-west oriented state bordering 8 other states that can not only poach the hell out of their players, but two of their cities are border towns such that loyalties are so divided you can’t even say they are the clear market leader.

I really don’t laugh at Kiffin much, he is undefeated against Georgia and has made millions coaching.

  12. Hard for a UGA fan to look back at Kiffin and see anything other than that total ass-whuppin he put on the 2009 team in Neyland. Him leaving was a gift to UGA. Don’t forget he had Saban on the ropes too.
