Your Daily Gator is dismissed.

I guess Dan Mullen resolved John Huggins’ “family issue”.

Florida Gators sophomore defensive back John Huggins has been dismissed from the football program, a UF spokesman confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel Saturday.

No further details were available about what specifically triggered Huggins’ dismissal.

Maybe Brenton Cox transferred to Florida because he figured his behavioral issues would get lost in the shuffle.

From the article: “Huggins was accused of choking a female tutor in October on the UF campus, according to records released by the school Tuesday, but Mullen said the player had already served a previously undisclosed suspension and the issue had been addressed. Huggins was not charged with a crime.”

So how many steps do you have to run for choking your tutor? Or this was one of those Jameis Winston suspensions?

Damn. Just damn. I’d be gleeful at what’s ahead for that program if I didn’t know that so many other people are bound to be collateral damage. At least Aaron Hernandez didn’t actually kill anybody (that we know of) until he turned pro.

At some point in time very soon schools will have to get permission to have recruits’ juvenile records available before accepting them into the program. No matter how many stars or how much they are hyped, we don’t need or want thugs & criminals in our program.

We have had our share of headaches as well. The difference between UGA and FU is how it is handled. FU tries to protect, hide, deny, deflect until the heat is turned up too high. UGA acknowledges the problem and deals with is swiftly and decisively. With FU who knows how many did not make it in to the media and were hushed up. We have learned over time how bad it was with Corch. Should we expect anything different from Grasshopper. He learned from the Master.

ONLY the constant media attention made this happen. This was very unlikely Mullen’s decision but rather much further up the food chain. If Mullen had his say in this, he would still be on the team as sure as the sun rises in the East. If not for the bad optics (not the legality or morality of it) for the UF brand this would have been swept under the rug.

Mullen sure knows how to run a program. Lip service to violence against women is one thing, he certainly has a bad track record with the issue going back to Jeffrey Simmons. I don’t think the Florida media is going to be as forgiving as Miss States was.

My question, was there another incident after the choking tutor incident that caused him to be suspended? Not sure what Florida’s freedom of informant act laws are but I bet we find out why he was kicked off the team about the time we are playing them in JAX

Has Lady Herbstreit not yet despaired of Mullen’s poor program discipline?

Needed a scholarship, maybe. When the news finally came out it was hard to excuse away. Or maybe Mullen learned from Corch that this stuff will eventually come back home and be expensive.

And with another player leaving the program today due to ongoing medical issues, I believe that leaves them with only 72 on scholly currently. On top of that, close to 1/3 of their roster is comprised of transfers or jr college players. Call me a cyrnic, but those two combined aren’t exactly receipes for success.

While UF may survive this year and go on to a solid season, next year looks bad for them.

    • Given they are replacing 4 on an offensive line that wasn’t great last year, I can’t imagine they are going to get a step up this year. That’s why I think Auburn is going to beat them in a low scoring game in Hogtown and LSU is going beat the tar out of them in Red Stick. They’ll be out of the east race before Jacksonville, and we’re taking them behind the woodshed.
