Your 8.14.19 Playpen

Some of you have probably figured out I’m on vacation this week.  I’m enjoying a Cocktail Party-less time on Amelia Island.

Anyway, last night I’m at my favorite restaurant here and the staff is regaling my group with tales of The Rolling Stones dining there when they played in Jacksonville this summer (evidently, Jagger ate there twice in a week).

That, of course, led me to ponder a philosophical question that’s nagged at me for years:  in the wake of a nuclear holocaust, is there another human being on the planet more likely to survive than Keith Richards?  I’ve never been able to come up with anyone else.

And with that, the comments are yours, gang.

Got my tickets to the cocktail party. Really zooming in on Amelia for the weekend with my wife, but never been there. I’m hearing about the Omni and downtown Fernandina. More info please!

We’ve done the omni the last couple of years and taken advantage of the shuttle busses for getting to the game. For years the team stayed at world golf village in st augustine and we would stay there. Much easier getting to the game from coming from St Augusting as opposed to ameilia/st simons.

But, the omni is great place to stay for 1/3 the costs of the ritz (although it’s not the ritz). There is a good pool, hotel bar is decent and bob’s steakhouse int the omni village is actually pretty good along with espana and others downtown.

BTW, did anyone see the HoF interview with Champ Bailey? He talked about to standout plays in his career. First, he intercepted Brady in the endzone and took it down the sideline. He thought he was going to score until Ben Watson caught him on the one. Next, he talked about a Steelers game where he was about to make a key interception until Hines Ward took it away at the last minute.

It took two DGDs to thwart a third DGD. Great read.

From a sports perspective, if you asked this question in 2015 I would have said Mark Richt. In 2018 – Marvin Lewis (lasted 16 years at Cinci with zero playoff wins…0-7). These days I’d probably have to go with Sean Miller at Zona (no final 4’s and ongoing NCAA mess) or perhaps even Jim Harbaugh if Michigan has another disappointing year.

If you don’t have tickets for the Notre Dame game but want to watch it with a bunch of Dawgs fans in a unique setting, join us at the Tiger Drive-In in Tiger, GA (just south of Clayton). We are the NE Georgia Mountain Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association and we are hosting the event. $10 for adults and $5 for kids 11 and under.
Gates open at 5:30 for your tailgating fun. You can bring your usual game accoutrements such as tents, coolers, furniture, genny’s, food, beverages, cocktails etc. (fire regs prevent grills though) Cook ahead of time, stop and pick up your Popeyes or they also serve food right there including bbq and ribs.
Game starts at 8:00 (sunset is 7:33 that evening) and following the game they will show a movie that you’re welcome to stay for. You may also camp there if you don’t want to drive. They even have some campers that you can rent but there’s affordable hotels, B&Bs etc. all around in the mountains of NE Georgia. Wake up and spend Sunday playing golf, whitewater rafting, visiting a winery, seeing a waterfall and lots more.
Tickets are already available online at https://ticketing.us.veezi.com/purchase/202?siteToken=4b0gx29ba12jswzswx2r92kj68

As the Playpen concept contunues on, I can’t help but notice how much less of a shit show it is. Those first couple of months were impressively ugly. Maybe everyone has most of it out of their system, Or maybe it’s just a slight hiatus until the real animosity returns. Either way pushing all of the nonsense into a post every week has made GTP a much more enjoyable read and community.

I would like to see a poll in each playpen.

Like this week’s could have been:

“Do you agree with New York Times Columnist David Brooks that Donald Trump – contrary to popular belief – is not a racist, but rather a ‘sociopath’, incapable of showing empathy toward any person or group of human beings?”

        -Yes. (correct answer)
        -No.

Given that Trump’s most egregious sociopathic actions to date are continuing the Obama-era enforcement of a Clinton-era immigration law, would we amend the poll to include other presidents, such as the aforementioned, as sociopaths?

          Yes (correct answer)
          No

It’s an interesting perspective that you seem to have. You seem to think that complying with orders to kill foreigners in their homeland makes one superior to one who avoided complying with those orders. Even if the people you’re supposed to kill constitute no threat to your country. To me, just following orders because they are orders, without regard to their morality, doesn’t seem particularly valid. Why are U.S. citizens obligated to further the aims of the military industrial complex? If anything, I would argue they are obligated to resist the MIC.

But then again, I’m no patriot. 😉

You’re a fucking moron. I was a member of the first group of vets ever to protest a war they had fought in when I came home. That doesn’t mean I don’t respect people who went to that stupid worthless war (and the subsequent one’s for that matter) but when we get this flag waving bullshit from some for whom “not getting VD” was his war then fuck him.. You’ve pulled that shit on me before and I suggest you extend it to some of my more “conservative” colleagues about their service.

You’re the dude crying about draft dodging. Now, I assume you’re not talking about the crime, since he’s never been charged. I assume you’re just talking about gaming the system to avoid service. You know, like Bill Clinton did.

Now if you admitting that Vietnam was an immoral war fought for no valid purpose, in terms of American defense, then what’s the problem? Are you upset because Trump and Clinton did something you were unable to do? Or is it, as I suspect, just another issue to throw at the wall in your #OrangeManBad tirade? Maybe this one will stick, eh?

And I don’t denigrate military service. I know people who are, or were, military. And they believe they’re protecting their fellow citizens. But none of them try to measure dicks with people who think that, maybe fighting on behalf on Al Qaeda in the Middle East isn’t what’s best for the American defense. But you’re a different breed of cat. You go full retard when discussing war.

I find memes useful because few people have the ability to read entire paragraphs, and then interpret what they read and apply it to the world. So for those folks, and we all know who you are, pictures and pithy blurbs must suffice to try to crack through that shell that tends to keep knowledge and reason out.

Now I’ll grant I don’t have your spewing profanity levels of intellect. Few do. But the funny thing is, you continually have to break out the thesaurus to try to insult me, but I’m not even using my real name!

“Not content with having Urban Meyer teach a class on leadership and character, Ohio State is upping its game on stupid ideas.
I’m sorry, that would be THE Ohio State University.
Ohio State has filed an application to trademark the word “the,” which just happens to be the most commonly used word in the English language. What’s next? Charging campus guests for the air they breathe? Imposing a sunshine tax for games at The Horseshoe? Asking anyone with a buckeye tree in their yard for royalties?”

And the great “Businessman” screws with tariffs and has the market unjointed . This country’s bus is being driven by an idiot who knows nothing of economics and is running us into the ground . His tweets are personal , as if he has all the time in the world to attack individual Americans from his WH bully pulpit.

Dow down 800 today as his tweets demean the person we trust to head the Fed economic policies. Trump knows nothing about the market (that’s why he stays with real estate) and while he is tweeting and digging a deeper hole, he tries to boast and then scare the country into being a good economy. It probably would have been by now if not for him – and that’s his strong point to his followers? Bullshit like never before!

What a heaping steaming pile of poo he is and what a parade of idiots that follow anything that totalitarian monster utters that’s straight from the Republican state mouthpiece called Fox news and it hurts to write “news” when you know it is a Republican power front run by the world’s billionaires. It is a propaganda tool that has already subverted many into a cultist America.

And if one guy happens to screw things up, we shouldn’t reform the system so that one man doesn’t have that kind of power. We just need to try somebody else as supreme King of the economy.
