Kirby speaks, part two

Dawg porn, or a dispassionate take on the roster?  You decide.

… And while the Dawgs were gutted at receiver, the freshman to watch is George Pickens, who’s been hard to miss thus far in practice. Smart said Pickens is the most talented receiver on the roster and has routinely made “wow” plays during the preseason.

Must resist cold shower…

  1. I would only need the cold shower if Kirby talked about what a dominating blocker Pickens is in his next sentence.

It’s much easier to stand out when the overall talent and experience level at receiver has dropped as much as it has at Georgia. Top receivers Ridley, Hardman, Godwin, Holloman, and Nauta were wiped from the roster during the offseason. Holyfield was a weapon as well.

G-Day also demonstrated how large the gap is for our receiving corps. Not saying the gap can’t be overcome by the second half of the season, but I fully expect growing pains in Georgia’s passing game, especially on third down.

If Pickens and Zeus are in a groove by the JAX game this offense is going to be crazy good down the stretch.

Indeed Pickens will emerge quickly as our best WR, but keep your eye on Kearis Jackson as well. He quietly has become one of Fromm’s top targets this off-season, and expect him to have a really good year.

3rd, you have been fairly accurate the past couple of years of how the season will play out. What are your thoughts on this upcoming season?

You know, I’ve been high on #10 from the get go. If he’s improved his 4.5+ time, he’s gonna be a baller. For some reason I have always thought he was a 4.3/4.4 guy…..maybe he is now??

Jackson’s been running with the 2’s consistently in practice at the slot behind Robertson so I’m not so sure about the “big year.” We’ll see.

Pardon the repetition, but I’m gonna keep saying it: I hope Cager has a monster year.

We may see some crazy high scores before the ND game as Coley gets these guys the reps they need in real games.

If he is as good as advertised, that would be such a huge deal for this offense. A true threat at WR that commands double teams would blow this offense wide open.

What you said, plus possibly having more than one quality WR on the field at the same time? Even better. Do you take a chance with single coverage on both? Double team one single the other? Double team both?
Give a smart QB like Fromm those reads and if you don’t get run into the ground you’ll get run all over the field with passing routes. UGA will be tough to defend this season. I’m looking forward to it.
