This is how you coach.

And it’s working brilliantly for said meathead ($$).

And in the Tennessee timeout that followed Wilson’s spike of the ball with 5 seconds left, Pruitt spent almost the entire time berating Taylor. Then he started to walk away. Then he turned back and screamed some more at Taylor…

I have no doubt that shored up the young man’s confidence just when his team needed it the most… oh, wait.

Then he turned back and screamed some more at Taylor, who promptly gave up a touchdown to Talon Shumway on a slant from Taylor in the first overtime.

Buttah and buttah.

I know some on here think the world of him, but there’s a very good reason Mike Leach is in the Siberia of P5 college football. He is a weirdo. More than one athletic director has said Leach has talked himself out of a job during an interview. He’s SOD with better public relations.

I remember seeing Pruitt screaming in Guarantano’s face mask down the stretch and seeing the look on Guarantano’s face. He just looked exhausted and done — like the son of an overbearing dad/coach that just wants to quit. I don’t think Pruitt will ever be a guy the players just want to play for.

There is a reason some guys spend their entire careers as coordinators. Head coaching is a very different skill set.

  4. The hot headed, slack jawed Alabama high school hero redneck can’t figure out why his non-NFL players aren’t playing as well as the NFL players he’s used to coaching.

Every single bit of this was predictable.

Tennessee fans are getting exactly why they deserve.

Watched a bit of his interview with Marty and McGee (crapshow) and was intrigued by Pruitt’s confidence in his ability to lead men and also that he carries himself as a competent, top level coach. That was before 0-2. He’s not either of those and a lot less

I know it’s en vogue to trash the guy for being an asshole, but when Richt got fired, didn’t several players tell the media outside of Butts-Mehre that they “better keep Pruitt”? I might be imagining that, but it seems to me at least at one point he was able to connect with his players. This seems like a case of him being in over his head, and not being able to handle head coaching pressures.

    • No, you’re right. But I think in retrospect that is more a testament to how divided that 2015 team was.

Pruitt and his players saw what all the rest of us saw: Schotty was a disaster and no one in the building was rowing in the same direction.

Head coaching pressures are not the same as a DC. Further Pruitt did show he had players who wanted him. It doesn’t mean he will earn that to the same degree as a head coach.

Boom is also a good DC but he isn’t a great Head Coach.

I had concerns with Smart in part for the same reason (granted to a lesser degree) a great DC can be a mediocre Head Coach. UGA was very lucky and I am happy my concerns were proven wrong.

Pruitt was a hot head in dealing with B-M and CMR not dealing with Schottenheimer’s failure. We never saw Smart deal with the same situation.

        • Pruitt was an insubordinate employee. The stories that continue to trickle out about his time in Athens just amaze me (granted, there is no real way of knowing what is true, and what is an embellishment).

At the very least, it is fair to say that he was not pleasant to work with, and his act wore thin about a year and a half in….which, hey, look at that, is about how long he’s been in Knoxville.

Being subordinate was backing an incompetent Schottenheimer and a HC who did nothing. He was successful as a DC elsewhere.

There is more evidence that Pruitt is a good DC than there is that Muschamp is one. Pruitt did it at three different programs. Muschamp had good results while he was under Nick Saban. Nowhere else. Pruitt is a prick but who cares about that if we are just talking about how good he is or isn’t as a defensive coordinator? People allow their personal feelings about these guys to be a factor when assessing their job performance. Saban is a complete dickhead but that doesn’t mean he’s not a great head coach. Richt is a wonderful person but he is not a great head coach.

Richt not a great head coach? Check the W-L record before you bring that nonsense. He’s not an all-timer like Saban but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t among the best at his job for a long stretch of time.

We’ve been over this before. Pruitt arrived at a time Richt was burned out and on auto pilot which worked with Bobo to get 10 win seasons. However, Schott was a train wreck and Richt stood by. Pruitt was the one stepping up to motivate the team and improve the program, did he do things which were insubordinate? Yes Did he say things he shouldn’t have? Likely. Did his defense keeps UGA from failing at Boom S Carolina level? Likely

The photo in the Athletic article reminded me of MASH when the center still had the ball under his jersey and showed it to the sideline. It looks like the BYU player is showing it from under his jersey to his teammates after getting the TD.

Pruitt’s brand of leadership was one reason a few officers were hit with friendly fire in Vietnam.

“Pruitt will be the Tennessee head coach in 2020. That shouldn’t need to be repeated, but here it is one more time. Firing him after this season would be like commissioning an artist to create a sculpture, then paying the artist $9 million to go away with just a fraction of the sculpture completed. We don’t know what Pruitt’s sculpture will look like in the end. We just know that, right now, it’s made out of beer cans.”

I would love it if Mark Richt sent out a tweet (like he did before the Kentucky game) saying that Jeremy Pruitt is still coaching at Tennessee and currently in the building preparing for Chattanooga.

Berating players when they know full well Pruitt could care less about them ain’t gonna work. Ass chewings are only effective when players know the coach sincerely cares about them as people, not just tools with which to create leverage for the next contract negotiations…or, in Pruitt’s case, maybe a lifeline to save his job.

The only thing more entertaining than this would be Leach. At least Pruitt puts in some work on the recruiting trail. I doubt Leach would out-recruit HC’s like Stoops or Boom.

But Leach would surely challenge Mullen for supremacy when it comes to running of the mouths…

Have you guys looked at his coaching staff, it has got to.be the worst in the country. Bear Bryant couldn’t win with that crew. As Spurrier said, bad assistant coaches will get you fired and he is right.

Essentially that’s what happened to CMR. Willie created the problem on D and Grantham perpetuated it. The D was CMRs Achilles heel. That and boneheaded end of game decisions.

Through 2018 TN was at 838 all-time wins for tenth spot, and GA was at 819 and number 11. My guess is that the margin will narrow to a 10 game lead by the end of this season, and GA will overtake the Vols by the end of the 2021 season.

The important number is 24. As in, with a win this year, we take a 24-23-2 lead in the series. It will be the first time we’ve had a series lead since divisional play began. During that 9 game streak, it didn’t seem like we’d ever beat them again (and Vol fans were very happy to express that opinion). With a win this year, it would make us 14-6 against them in years that begin with “2” – and we could finally tell them that even their 9 game streak still couldn’t give them the series lead.

In Pruitt’s defense, the D didn’t play all that bad. The offense had the ball all night, and dinked, dunked, and dawdled away every opportunity. Not sure I’ve ever seen so many east-west plays. And on 3rd & 12 with 1:56 left, Chaney calls a run that got em 2 yards! Chaney all but handed BYU the win.

I don’t know if Coley will be a good OC or not. But I couldn’t be happier Chaney is gone. He was an anchor holding us back.

Leach would have been the best hire for UT IMHO and the previous AD had that put together but it got torpedoed by Foolmer. But even before, the original hire of Greg Schiano was a good hire too. But the Vol morons didn’t want him so they trashed him using his time as an assistant at State Penn falsely accusing him of impropriety as a means to undo the deal–now look where they are. The Vol Nation is getting exactly what they deserve. Karma is a bitch.
