The Great Urnge Hope

LOL.  Tennessee fans have given up their Gruden fetish and turned their focus to an old familiar face.

This is being taken as a sign that somebody is auditioning for a job in Knoxville:

Me?  I take that as a sign that somebody thinks things are really snafued in Knoxville.  But you do you, Vol fans.  It’s got to beat believing the current staff is going to turn things around in 2019.

I generally don’t wish for bad things to happen to people, but Urban Meyer tests that limit.

Bama, OSU, UGA, UF, Texas, USC, Michigan, TAMU, PSU, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame I feel are better programs than UT from a historical and recent perspective combined overall. I’d have UT somewhere in that next tier in the 12-15 range with FSU, Clemson, etc.

Either way, at some point UT probably will become a power again, but in the meantime I’m loving this continued malaise they just can’t escape from. All I know is we are tied with them with 13 SECC and are only around 15 wins behind them all-time, so in a few more years IMO UGA will cement itself as the 2nd best SEC program all-time.

I’ve been enjoying watching those all-time UGA/UT numbers creep closer to our favor as well. Just a few more years!!!!

Yep, and we also should regain the head-to-head series lead as well in a few weeks. Unfortunately, they’ve held that title since the early 90’s.

      Child shower rape university?

No. Not ever. Penn State should have been permanently banned from football forever.

When you hide decades of child rape because you care more about football wins, you need your toy taken away.

Hell, they havent even had a winning SEC record this century and are below .500 overall since 2010. Based on this century alone, they aren’t even a top 40 program.

    • eethomas, you could not be more right. It’s a HORRIBLE job right now. You could argue that every school on their schedule is a better job. No one with an ego like Meyer is going to work for Phil Fullamerde, and Fullamerde is not hiring anyone who poses a threat to him or doesn’t owe him big for the “opportunity”..

It’s not an easy (or even plausible) fix. It’s not a stepping stone to anything but a spectacular Thelma and Louise ending with everybody watching, It’s probably not even a big payday in their current straits.

It’s now strictly a place for a coordinator looking to make the jump- and not a young up-and-comer, but an over-ripe hack like Rodney Garner who’s willing to step in them if they’re willing to step in him, or an off-brand product like Dooley2, or a damaged goods guy like Mr. Freeze.

But for all of that, the next head hillbilly, if not Fullamerde, is his stooge, Tee Martin. Tee, have your agent spend most of his time on the buyout.

… and that lies at the root of their problems, They truly, honestly, fervently, desperately believe and cling to this notion. It’s why they cannot proceed. Hubris is apparently, with apologies to the Bard, the Orange-Eyed Monster.

  6. If Kedon Slovis saves Clay Helton at USC, Urban may be looking elsewhere. What if he is being courted by Tennessee and Florida State?

Very bizarre statement for him to make, that Eww Tee was “head and shoulders above every other team in the SEC-East” in 2005. Not only were they not the SEC-East champs that year, they had a losing season. But this is all of a piece with his other lies and bullshittery. I would love to see him return to the SEC via Knoxville and get his ass kicked from hell to breakfast. Vol fan base would turn on a dime against him and we would see his Fred Sanford act before his first season was done.

I agree with you that it is extremely unlikely. But it would be great fun to watch if the hysterical “peasants-with-pitchforks” Tennessee fan base (led by Clay Travis) seized on this and possible other statements to try to stampede Phat Phil into making an offer. Their Gruden obsession of the past decade was built on less.

  9. Remember when they thought they were too good for Scott Satterfield? Good time.

Honestly though, someone who does something completely different is what they should look for. UGA, with all our resources, might not be able to out-Bama Bama. Tennessee has no chance.

  10. CUM isn’t about to go back to the SEC. It will be the PAC 12 or ACC. Two places that make the most sense are FSU and USC (although USC appears to be righting the ship). Amazing how those migraines heal so quickly once he’s no longer in the spot light for unethical conduct (again).

No way CUM goes to UT. He already faked a heart attack to not have to compete against Bama. You think he wants to go to Knoxville and take that faded orange dumpster fire up against Saban and Co. EVERY YEAR?

Right. USC is the only job he’s focused on, and his wife has always wanted to live in the SoCal area. What will be funny is if USC turns things around and Clay Helton has a solid year. To see Urban squirm over that while having to compliment a, say, nice USC win in the studio will be comedy gold.

I know that’s the conventional wisdom, but USC is famously behind on facilities so it might not have the investments Urbs would expect. It has the tradition, it’s got a fairly light path, it’s got the recruiting base, but will they pour in the money?

I mean, he did spur Notre Dame for Florida once. I don’t know that there will be a Florida out there this off season… who knows?

California also has the highest (or one of) state income tax rates in the country. Doesn’t matter to me, but when you get into the top margins it certainly takes a bite.

FSU would be a good fit. As would one of the lesser Texas or Florida schools.

I don’t know. He’s pretty arrogant. Might could be goaded into taking the challenge.

But this video is not evidence of him being willing to take that job.

“Coach, we’re going to back to 2005 and Tennessee was what in the SEC?”

“They were… heads and tails above the other team in the SEC East…”

I guess that why Georgia won the SEC in 2005… and 4 of 5 vs UT between 2000-2005… and have won 8 of the last 13…

EXACTLY. There’s no way in hell that UT was above Georgia and Florida at that time. Between 2000 and 2005, UT beat Georgia once and Florida three times. That’s not head and shoulders above the rest of the division.

If it was last week I’d say that it was a race to the bottom between USC and TN to see who can be the first to fire their coach and hire Corch. But USC managed to pull one out with their second string QB, so it’s obvious that TN is ahead in this metric.

Did Mr character just say they were head and shoulders among the rest of the east in 2005?

I had great seats for that year’s SECCG and I didn’t see UT there.
