Close to perfect

Watching this live, I thought it was the best kickoff of Rodrigo Blankenship’s career.

I don’t know how you could place that ball any better than he did.

  1. It was perfect. I think they did a fair catch every kick after that. If Hot Rod isn’t the best kicker in college football, I certainly want to see who is better.

I was thinking on that very play that this is why they want him to not have a touchback every kickoff. If you could pin them inside their 10 because your kicker and coverage are that good, why not do it? Jon Fabris is very, very jealous.

I agree, but the kid should have fair caught the ball. Current rules really don’t benefit kicks like this if the receiver is smart.

He needs a 60- and a 62-yarder this season — and then maybe a 64-yard FG to boot — to rightfully take his place alongside (above) Butler in our annals. It would be cool if UGA had the only two PK’ers in the college football HofF down the road.

Interesting. I never realized Butler was the only PK in the college football HofF. But then I thought about it and while I can name a half-dozen really good kickers from SEC history alone, they don’t have the advantages that some of the longtime NFL kickers have in compiling crazy numbers like a Morten Andersen.
I might have to head over to cfbstats to browse a bit.

Here’s to hoping that Kirby’s “Process” has a penchant for special teams!

Fabris probably needed a moment to himself when he saw that.

Yeah, we ought to give Rodrigo a chance to break Butler’s record. Next year he will be but a horned-rimmed memory of likes when the new kicker gets here. I’m betting he will break Butler’s record in the first year. 70-yd field goals will be out of our imagination and on the field.

Shit! It’s called “coffin corner”. He absolutely nailed it. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Rodrigo had a lot of help from the returner making up his mind to return a high kick placed mid-end zone.

It would be better to delay that practice so as to entice ND to attempt runbacks. After they see how that kickoff team flies down the field, they won’t want any part of it.

I can’t think of a good reason to try and return a kick against a competent team. Cook tried one for us this year that I can recall and he failed and I hope Kirby had something to say about it. Even without a touch back, the rules make the fair catch the only sound action to take, with the possible exception of a kick with seconds left and your only hope to win is a quick score.

The fact that a DL was in on a tackle at the 5 on a kickoff is inconceivable.

My gawd the kicker, he’s just a small guy kickin’ into a gusty 20 mile an hour storm… the flag, the flag it’s just not swirling, it’s straight out towards the east…no,no,no they’ve called for a coffin corner kick, don’t know if our outside guys can get down there today, cause ya know their return guy is real fast, ya know we’re kinda small on the outside and it’s a hot one outside today….the kick is off …..the little kid outa spray berry high just mailed it to the goal line, look at the special team thundering down the field….look at the special team , they got to the 4 and we pushed em back to the 3….

No! No! No! This will head us down the slippery slope of directional kicks, pooch kicks, and squib kicks. I’m already having flashbacks of Logan Gray!

Just kick the damn ball out of the endzone and take no chances!

Wait, I thought we were against directional kicks?

Also, shouldn’t the dude have fair caught it?

I want HotRod to kick a 64 yarder FG. I don’t want it to have to beat Alabama in the SECCG or MNC game….my heart couldn’t take it.

But it would be sweet if it happens!
