Always. Be. Coaching.

Yesterday marked the second straight game where Smart called a late timeout in a blowout.

Man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.  Besides, those timeouts were only going to waste.

  2. That is a perfectionist right there. Kirby sweats the details. Meanwhile, Sideshow Dan almost blew the game against Kentucky last night due to illogical game managment; going for two after a TD for no reason, and letting UK burn clock at the end while he had 3 timeouts in his pocket. I think Kirby treats every down of every game as a win or a loss, and if memory serves, that is the absolute definition of “the Process” that Saban is famous for.

      Some observations about that game
1-KY gave that game away. They played not to lose rather than to win and it bit them in the ass (sound familiar)
2- UF is a better team WITHOUT Franks at QB
3- I still hate Florida. It was almost a perfect day. UGA wins in a blowout. GT looses to a FCS team. UK SHOULD have completed the trifecta. Oh well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Agree on all points, especially #2. I think SCAR is better with their new backup as well. SEC East quarterbacks are snake-bitten with injuries this season it seems. I hope/pray that trend doesn’t eventually extend to us.

Florida still has some skill players, but they have no depth. LSU will eat them alive. I’m hoping our game against them will feel more like 2017’s beatdown vs 2018.

Not only did Kentucky not win that game, but now we have to go up against a competent QB in Jax-I know it was just part of a game but it was clear to me how much better he is than Franks, who I think is a horrible QB. And it ends any chance of a QB controversy that divides the team. Damn you KY chokers.

Yeah, it was surprising how much better Florida’s offense ran once Trask came in. I expect part of that was Kentucky was prepared for Franks, but not for Trask. The momentum shift in the game also seemed to cause them to think too hard, rather than to react and defend. But again, the offense they were going against at that point was completely different than it had been all night. By the time we play Florida, we’ll have a bit of film on Trask to study. I expect Kirby & co. will be ready to give the Gators more than they want of Bulldawg hospitality.

They went for two to go up by three instead of two, so a field goal couldn’t beat them. As it turns out, Kentucky would have been better off if they’d made it. They might have tried to score a TD at the end of the game instead of relying on their shaky kicker. Letting Kentucky get it down to the 30 seconds was dumb. I’ll grant you that.

Have to impressed with the focus UGA brought yesterday. Against weak competition they have gotten even better by becoming more complete. Stay healthy and committed to the goal guys.

I feel like the full game focus is the by-product that comes from our ability to get so far into the depth. Each player knows he will have less plays to give that 100%. Also, the newbies wanting to flash their talent while given the opportunity plays a role. I could understand a player starting to lose focus if he has been going for 40 minutes in the heat and the score is 42-0. A rest between plays becomes more attractive and more affordable.
I love Kirby’s mentality, that, no matter the score or who we play, we strive for perfection in the details. If the process becomes a way of life, we succeed on and off the field.

I feel CKS is, yes, treating every down as win or lose. Maybe won’t rest his team UNTIL it is out of reach unlike vs Alabama, IMO.

I watched several games this weekend and the refs are already f*cking up calls. Targeting has become the new pass interference. They call it when they want to manipulate the outcome of the game. Basically the refs flagged FU all the way down the field to their leading score in the FU-UK game. And did you see the holding call on Truss? Replay showed he didn’t ever even touch the Arky State rusher—a total whiff. But out came the hanky.

I haven’t seen any horrible targeting calls, and players need to stop lowering their heads when they tackle. The thing that kills me about the holds on Georgia is that with all of the penetration Georgia was getting throughout the game, Arkansas State almost never held? Okay.

  7. +1 on the refs flagging FU down the field. Same almost happened to FSU but ‘Hoos held on.

Watching Gameday spot on Iowa State, their coach was miked up telling his players “If you love the Process, eventually the Process will love you.” I think I found my epitaph…

The key flag in the FU-UK game was the targeting call on the UK DB when UK had stopped FU on 3rd down late in the game. That call gave FU a first down on UKs side of the field and caused UKs best defensive player to get kicked out of the game. FU scored 2 plays later on a pass that went after UKs replacement DB.

Yeah I saw all that. If the UK safety had kept his head up it would have been fine. Trask was falling and the DB lowered his head. There was helmet to helmet and the ref was right there. It was pretty flagrant, and Trask was going down anyway.

These players have to learn to stop leading with the head. That was a textbook targeting call, even though it didn’t look intentional.

  8. A couple things I’ve noticed about Smart that’s had and is having a BIG impact. 1) he and his staff find real impact transfers. 2) more to the point of the OP- the staff is coaching until the last second, playing the entire depth chart and still managing to look fairly sharp.
