Ahmad Wagner Watch

Okay, I admit it.  I’m obsessed.  Wagner’s now my favorite SEC player who doesn’t wear red and black.

After the Florida game, his stats are still absurd.

On just 18 career targets, Wagner has come down with 9 receptions and drawn 8 (!) pass interference flags against smaller DBs overwhelmed by his size and ability to box them out on jump balls.

The only thing I can’t figure out is why they don’t throw to him more.

Agreed. The numbers make it look like some hacked Madden player. But that catch you highlighted was insane. Nothing but instinct to pull that in after the tip.

Who do we assign to him? Reese is our tallest DB at 6’3.

I don’t understand why they didn’t take a shot to him on the final drive instead of playing for the field goal, but I don’t understand a lot of Stoops’/Gran’s in-game decisions.

Once Franks got hurt, the plan on defense and offense was to do anything necessary to lose the game. This included playing 30 yards off all UF receivers and intentionally not throwing to any open UK receivers.

I think they mentioned they were down two starting safeties or a safety and a DB. I believe one was a targeting penalty not sure about the other. The announcers mentioned something to the tune they went vanilla probably because the younger guys might not be able to play all the normal checks and coverages. Regardless Stoops lost the game going conservative which sucks for the players. They absolutely whipped Florida that game.

The “targeting” call on the QB, as he was running in the hole on the game-winning drive, was about the worst call I’ve seen; makes football hardly unrecognizable…

There were multiple throws to UF receivers where a UK defender was not even visible in the picture. With the back up QB in I would have thought they would tighten up the coverage even more and get after the QB, try to rattle him. Instead they let him get VERY comfortable and in a rhythm and it cost them the game. I despise seeing a team play not to lose instead of playing to win. It never seems to end well.

Eddie Gran would have been Jim Chaney lite.

Glad we made Kentucky overpay for him.

Why did Stoops just sit on the ball when they had an excellent opportunity to move the ball (from about midfield) and get points right before the half? It was an amazing display of non aggressiveness on his part.
And why did he tolerate his whole bench celebrating (in the third quarter) as if they had a 60 point lead?
Crazy shit happens to Kentucky..but some if it is self inflicted.

Wagner looks like the real deal as a WR. Interesting info – Iowa transfer who never played a minute for the KY basketball team.

It’s gotten to where I don’t believe I can watch another KY-fu game. Seeing KY beating them all game only to implode and walk away losers is infuriating. I don’t know how the team or Wildcat fans can deal with it.
