My ass will be in its seat, of course, but it’s worth speculating about the eyeballs on Saturday night’s game.
Last year’s Alabama-LSU game on CBS brought in 11.6 million viewers, making it the most watched prime-time regular season game on any network. That was a larger audience than the most watched 3:30 p.m. SEC on CBS game, between Alabama and Auburn, which drew 9.2 million viewers. The Georgia-Alabama SEC championship game drew more than 17 million viewers.
This is the 29th season NBC has broadcast Notre Dame games on that network. Last season when the Fighting Irish made their run to the college football playoff, the games drew the most viewers on the network in the last six years, averaging 3.49 million, according to the National Football Foundation. Notre Dame vs. Michigan drew 7.2 million.
The 2011 Alabama-LSU prime time game drew 20.1 million viewers.
Georgia has the opportunity to make a big impression on a large platform. Where do you think the viewership numbers will fall?
Who is on ABC/ESPN in that time?

I’m sure you were convinced the Bizarro Dogs were going to punk us in 2017.
If you think we’re going to wet the bed, I would strongly suggest you call your local bookie or jump on a private jet to Vegas or Biloxi to lay your 401k on the Irish and take the points.
Fact is Georgia has not had even a close game at home since Kirby’s first year.

Heh heh…you’re right. Start of the game? 15M easy. 4th quarter? 2M, maybe 3M.

With the national footprint of Notre Dame and the top 10 matchup, I’d guess it’ll push 20 million. There’s also no real competition in primetime.

Might even close the ‘crootin door for UGA, when ever both programs are after the same student athlete…should this event get ugly…early… and often

Near the top of those numbers. Too early in the season for the drama to be at it’s peak. Although, these are two very popular teams nationally (‘cepting the State of Montana of course), and both being in the Top 10 will increase the pull. Move this game to November with both fighting for a Final 4 spot and it would probably break the record.
Not getting as much discussion as you might expect, the 14 point line is a factor….we will get Dawgraded again. Sanford is just so beautiful at night, it is our very best look.

They are still ecstatic about boring NFL games this time of year. Priests haven’t begun making them aware that ND is highly rated yet.

First half, 20 million viewers. Second half kickoff, 15 million viewers. Near end of game, 10 million viewers as all TV sets north of the Mason Dixon Line will be dark.

With such an utter lack of sporting competition, this should be a dandy. I see it close to the SEC Championship number. I don’t think there will be more neutral fans cheering for ND than UGA, either. The nation doesn’t hate us quite yet and will be watching more so out of curiosity rather than loving or hating either team. Like the New York Yankees, a whole lotta people wear ND gear, but how many really watch the Irish play ball. It’s suburban Irish dads in Boston wearing ND gear to Bed, Bath, and Beyond on Saturday literally while ND is playing.

I think it will top SECCG numbers. ND vs a consensus top SEC team is rare enough in reality but sorta always hovering around the most generic water cooler hypo you could ever invent. Basically, this game has probably been played a million times on the old EA Sports video games. There will be plenty of viewers for this one that may not watch CFB again until November.

It will be disappointing. ND has been pulling in decent ratings, but no one has been watching UGA this year.
