After the misplayed punt, it was UGA 23 – ND 10.

Exactly. We’ve got the biggest OL in the nation and stacked at RB. A first down runs clock and a TD ends the game. Plus, at that point the Backs were running over ND. Playing not to lose almost lost the game.

Mayor, I agree. That decision seemed to take a lot out of our team and gave ND the glimmer of hope that were looking for. No one in the group I watched the game with could believe we didn’t go for it.

Agree, but understand that the dig here isn’t on CMR, but CKS for preaching “impose our will” and then settling for 3 little points when he had the other team by the short hairs. Hell it was stupid. It sent a bad message to his O line and it re-invigorated ND.

This^, but it only works if you go to a 3 man rush and play 10-15 yards off the receivers so you don’t give up “the big play” and give up 6 “pretty big plays and a fucking touchdown”.

Same thing I said if we make it we can bleed the clock down even if we have to kick fg later . This playing not to lose shit will cost us if KS does not grow a pair. How many times have we seen Tom Brady qb sneak on 3rd or 4th and one and make it. James Cook ? Fromm bailed us out as did D . If they bring the extra man in the box we should have thrown it 15 more times

QB sneak on 4th and inches and don’t muff the punt, that game is 27-3.
But in general, our offensive playcalling was really sad and tragic.
Defense stepped up huge.
Crowd was the real MVP of the game.

Hey, but how bout that Mike Leach? The UCLA game was a real teaching moment. If your team scores 63 points in regulation and STILL can’t win, you have a major problem with your team’s defense. That is Leach’s fatal flaw and why he will continue to coach at the fringes of P5.
But on the bright side, maybe he can show the video of this game to the “class” he teaches at Wazzu.

I don’t understand why they didn’t attack downfield earlier when it became obvious Notre Dame was making sure they didn’t get outflanked. Other than that, I didn’t have any real issues, even though I would have gone for it on the 4th and short. It would also help if they called pass interference a few times.

The only environment at Sanford to compare to last night was the Auburn blackout. I’ve never seen a Georgia crowd that loud for 60 minutes for the defense regardless of down & distance. We were a true 12th man.
That ACC crowd had no idea what defensive pass interference is. The practical mugging of Pickens on our last drive was awful.

Yep. Crowd was instrumental in all 3 of their 2nd half timeouts. That actually helped seal the game for us.

Yeah ee, they flagged DJ Daniels for PI, which was very questionable considering how ND’s db’s were mauling our guys. To make matters worse, you had Gary Danielson claiming “incidental contact” whenever a ND db basically assaulted one of our receivers.

That happened right in front of me … it was a crap call and the ball couldn’t have been caught in bounds.
They called it on him for not getting his head around. The ND corners did it multiple times and no flag.

I’d like to think that this game is exactly what the team needed exactly when they needed it — a hard win when they were favored and maybe had bought into the hype a little bit. Of course I may end up looking foolish for saying this, but I think we run the table the rest of the way and look good doing it for the most part. The team that is most likely going to screw that up for us is gag Auburn. And when we face off against LSU in the conference championship game, I don’t know if they win, but they’ll be the favorites if yesterday is any indicator.

I just tried to register for Volnation. At first I thought about trying to sneak in with a cute nickname. I mean, just Google “words with vol in them” and any of the top eight would work well: reVOLution, VOLleyball, beneVOLent, conVOLuted, VOLuminous, deVOLlution, maleVOLlent, VOLuptuous.
But I tried to register as PDawg30577, just to be up front about why I’m there. If the proprietor of the place is smart, they’ll let me in just for the additional traffic I’ll bring (though business appears really brisk without the likes of me at the moment.) Who knows whether I’ll be approved or not.
But if I’m rejected this time, and must resort to subterfuge, what would the best “Vol” name be? Consider this a crowdsourcing request.

I see a lot of people avoiding the obvious, but I’m saying it: This team has demons in its collective head now after blowing the Alabama games. The offensive coordinator had nothing to do with dropping the snap on 3rd & 14 or that atrocious punt by Camarda on the next play. It’s great we won but we need to have a game where people step up and make plays at the end instead of shrinking.

It’s not just Camarda, though, which is the point. It’s taking the safe play on 4th & inches with 7 minutes to go with supposedly the greatest OL in school history (which, there again, is not the damn playcalling). It’s not having the confidence to make the play when the chips are down.
You all can deny this all you want, but it’s pretty damn obvious to the non-UGA sphere, I can tell you that.

I’ll say this: props to the defense, at least on the last series. ND had plenty of time and all of the momentum and the defense forced them into bad plays. That’s to the good.

I didn’t like the FG call on 4th and inches but understood it. At that point, you are up 13 with the clock on your side, and the defense was playing lights out (everyone is taking about Ian Book, but both picks were throws right into coverage and Reed should have had a pick 6 as well). The only thing at that point is not to give up a big play, and we end up with a bust to that tight end to get into scoring position.

They’re coming, and I don’t think it will be just us, either. The fucking announcers were dragging Notre Dame on it in real time. When people are hypersensitive (and not wrongly) about legitimate injuries of all kinds, that bullshit will be adjudged especially harshly for the chicken shit move it is. And they didn’t go to that well just once, either. Kelly is a scumbag on that front, at least, and everybody saw it. I just hope the scum-baggiest SEC coaches we have ahead of us didn’t see that shit and say “Man, that’s brilliant!

You don’t throw short on a stacked box when you are a run first team and are having trouble running. That was our first half offense.

Actuallly, they weren’t a run-first team on those first two possessions. They kept trying to throw underneath and hit swing passes. The gameplan, to me, should have been to press your advantage, which was the running game, and see if they could defend it, then adjust off of that. Maybe Coley learned a lesson.

Honestly I think Fromm and the new receivers’ comfort level with each other is still a work in progress. It was great to see Cager step up and be the man on the sideline out pass on that crucial TD. But it seems to me Fromm, Coley, and the WRs are still figuring out where each WR wants the ball, what routes they run best, the timing and spacing, etc. Pickens is still learning how to use his body to create space for his incredible hands. Once he gets that down, he’ll be unstoppable. But he’s not there yet.
Notre Dame’s secondary was a real learning experience for our receivers re: ND’s ability to get their hands over bodies to obstruct the catch. Our young WRs need that kind of play to take the next step, IMO. (Also, I wish our DBs were that good at defending that way and being “subtle” enough to not draw flags.)

I watch the live cam at the Venice Marina and see yellowfin and swords every day but the blog’s will have you thinking the fishing is terrible! Go Dawgs!

There are links on the marina page for most of the boats, we’re going on Home Run but Voodoo seems to have the best marketing department for their online. The Hull Truth is a boating and fishing site that has a good bit of stuff about rig fishing. When a guy from Mobile said he hadn’t seen a decent yellowfin in 2 years I asked what was decent for him. Nor reply.

Went into the game thinking our young defense might be a liability, but our veteran and skilled offense will take over. Finished the game thinking our offense looked pretty mediocre, and thankful that our defense took over and shut things down in the second half.
Go figure.

But you know that our offense is really only “veteran” at two positions, QB and RB; most of the OL too, I guess, but even the OL has inexperience (center). There’s plenty of skill but the experience is still needed at TE, WR, etc. to get this train fully rolling.

Well I was wrong about this game being an easy win. I think it was Mayor that tried to tell me different.
That being said Chip Kelly and the ND players gained my respect with their effort. We out talented them but they packed a lunch and brought their ‘A’ game. Of course, it’s not like they had GTECH level players.
I was surprised we couldn’t take more vertical shots downfield. Their DBs played well at crucial times.
They played well against the run most of the game. I thought we were starting to dominate the run game just before the 4th down play.
I was disappointed we didn’t go for the 4th and 1 that late in the game. The 3pts didn’t seem to really benefit us and we were moving the ball so well at the time. ND’s D was hurting. At first down and eventual TD would have sealed the game. We gave them life and hope with the field goal.
If we grow from this and improve the ulcer is worth it. If this revealed to the rest of the teams on our schedule how to fret us…well, we’ll be fretting a few more times. I hope to get the injured back soon.

The three points turned out to be huge because then ND was forced to go for the TD. Otherwise, they kick a routine FG and we go to OT with them having momentum.
Don’t shank a punt, don’t let the TE run wide open down the middle and we close it out easy.
ND is a good team. We played/coached a little tight but overcame it. Good win, learn from the mistakes and move on.

Kirby is phenomenal at all the big-picture responsibilities of a head coach, like recruiting and game-planning. If there’s one legitimate knock against him, it’s that he’s shown a propensity to make some truly baffling in-game decisions over the last 12 months (fake field goal vs. LSU, fake punt vs. Bama, not going for it on 4th-and-1 last night). I’m not second-guessing these decisions because they blew up in our faces — or at least very nearly did in last night’s case — but because they were poor decisions analytically given the context of when they occurred. I can live with a bad result as long as the decision-making that went into it was sound.
It’s hard to say if Kirby skews toward being too reckless or too conservative. We’ve seen examples of both. The fake punt against Bama was wildly reckless, while the decision to settle for the field goal last night was Marty Schottenheimer levels of conservative. And the truth is, there are times when it makes sense to throw caution to the wind and other times when playing it safe is the right call. It all just depends on the game situation. With Kirby, we’ve seen him get a little too wild when the situation called for some restraint, and conversely, we’ve seen him get a bit cautious when some killer instinct was the order of the day.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade Kirby for any coach in the country. But if there’s one area where he’s still got some room to grow, this would be it.

If you read the story on Ths Athletic where players tell stories about being around him in practice and other non-game events (hilarious, btw), you can see why he’ll never be coach anything other than a backwater/outpost. Focus on the task at hand is very, very optional.

We had a chance to twist the knife in the 4th q and end ND’s playoff chances and didn’t do it. I am one of those fans that believes ND is overhyped every year and we have superior talent and should have beaten the shit out of them. So, it’s mildly disappointing to allow them a moral victory by us having to hang on for the win when it should have never gotten to that point.
Thank god we won that would have been a disaster if not but watching it on tv it was not all that satisfying given we were favored by 2 touchdowns.

Notre Dame had 12 penalties for 85 yards to the Dawgs 6. That was huge in retrospect.
I don’t get the game strategy at all. Kirby has insane defensive depth and an offense designed to war your ass out. Not mention 5 stars galore on offense. So you would think you would want to give that superior athleticism and size as many reps as possible to increase the pressure on the ND D. If speeding up the offense backfires a little and puts your D back out there quickly a couple of times, you can handle it.
Nope. 59 offensive plays in 35 minutes of possession. ND ran 2 more plays with 10 minutes less.

Everyone should lay off the “low anxiety” route for the rest of our games. No more placing the cat on the Dawgs’ backs and setting them up as a target. No more “Run, Dawg, Run!” before the games are played. We discovered why ND was 7th and we discovered we have an alley Dawg team that will bite and scratch until they win.
But no more, “We have it in the bag!” cheers. Please. These guys will play their Dawg hearts out and that’s the number one understanding that we should have from here on out. And they will be fun to watch with their new imperfections naked and shining before us.

We’ve lost that game times before so credit there. Credit to ND for scouting us and being well prepared. NOT credit to Coley for having the offense play right into the teeth of their defense the entire game. Kirby just allowed it and that’s concerning. We refused to even try and stretch the field even though ND had 8-9 in the box the entire night.
Kirby gutlessly kicks the nearly meaningless FG, effectively killing our momentum, but then turns around and allows Coley to have Fromm throw on 3rd down which stopped the clock for ND.
Swift probably did more to earn his money than in any other game. He put in work.

The same folks posting “We beat a Top 7 team that is in the Championship contender, be happy” are the same people that were saying “Notre Dame is a paper tiger that doesn’t play anyone, no way they should be in the CFP ahead of us” last year.
UGA looked a little shaky yesterday. Better to accept that and get to work than to blow sunshine up their ass about the quality opponent.

I thought Notre Dame would probably hang around for a while with Georgia pulling away down the stretch, which is almost what happened before the pulling away part stopped with about 7 minutes left. I hoped Georgia would get off to a fast start and run them out of the stadium, but I didn’t predict it.

Oh, don’t worry, Biggus. We all know who was predicting it and who was saying “Ease up on the Kool-Aid, Francis.”. I was in the crowd hoping for and able to see the reason for the “blowout” thinking. My cautioning was to prevent the vapors from affecting any fans too negatively if things didn’t go as planned.
It was a great game full of good and bad plays, but probably the most exciting one anyone has seen in quite some time. And the resolve behind those Bulldawg teeth gives me hope for the rest of the year.
