Game day post, Urnge edition

On Tuesday, my brain had coalesced around the idea that Georgia would win comfortably tonight, but not cover a pretty good-sized spread.  Say something like 31-10,  caused by a combination of Kirby’s natural manball tendencies and Pruitt’s likely desire not to compose a game plan that would lead to the game getting out of control.

But the damned stats keep getting in the way.  I’m not even talking about the advanced version I’ve been posting this week.  Just take a look at the most basic of numbers, offensive and defensive scoring against D-1 opponents:

  • Georgia:  36.0/7.7 (+28.3)
  • Tennessee:  19.7/33.7 (-14.0)

Combined, that’s a 42-point differential.  How exactly do you come up with a set of realistic circumstances for the Vols to overcome that?  Remember, they’re also last in the conference in turnover margin.

And that’s before you factor in this week’s distractions with Banks and Guarantano.

Yeah, I know Jim Chaney worked his magic once with a quarterback who led Tennessee to an embarrassing win over the Dawgs.  If the story tonight winds up being Beyond Maurer, I will be the first to proclaim Chaney’s genius for all the world to hear.  But I’m not seeing it.

I thought Georgia would win big over Notre Dame, yes.  But this Tennessee team, no matter how hard I squint at it, ain’t Notre Dame. As much as I’m trying, Ringo, and I’m trying real hard to be the shepherd, I can’t bring myself to say Georgia won’t cover tonight.  Probably with ease.

Come at me in the comments.

Usually DGAS about the score, as long as we win. But this game, I always wanna REAL ass beating, one they will feel for years. They deserve it….more than any fan base/program I know of.

I am with the Senator on this one. If I thought we had a “mad-on”, some sort of chip on our shoulder, or that KS wouldn’t play to minimize the score, I would be betting this one heavy for the Dawgs to cover easily. Instead I bet UGA on a smallish type bet because it is hard to see how we don’t cover, but I am not confident we don’t let them hang around, or get a back-door cover because we pulled the plus too early. Try as I might to please Mr. Munson, I cannot come up with a way we lose this one, or don’t win by multiple scores.

Think we get a nasty, all out effort for TN early on, but we should be ready for that. Once their best effort fails to get them a lead, the enthusiasm fades awa, and UGA pulls away to a gut wrenching cover. Dawgs win 38-10.

And along comes Debbie Downer. 17-10 at the half, 33-17 for the win. Why? Because I don’t know how to feel confident and my gut feeling that opening up the offense will migrate into running into 8 man fronts. CKS can’t help himself with a lead… Can he?? Of course, there’s always the option of running over 8 man fronts. In case you can’t tell, I struggle with making decisions.

Big 12 officials just called a late hit out of bounds against KU on Jalen Hurts. The whistle had not blown and he was in bounds more than Nick Chubb was when he was injured at Kneeland stadium. Piss poor call. I guess the sec doesn’t have all the crooked officials.

LOL, if that offense scores that many points, we are in big trouble against a few incoming opponents. A score on a freak thing, or 3rd teamers, I can buy, then one score on a UGA mistake, but they shouldn’t get three scores.

Their players are athletes who have had two weeks practice against what we do. They do not have to play today as they have in the past and the unknown is how far have they progressed in playing us.

The possibility of getting outplayed is there for every team and although the possibilities vary as to reality, they are still there. I cannot believe that any team in America can’t get ready to play a hard game against any opponent. Case in point is Ga St vs Tenn. I’m pulling hard for the Dawgs to overcome what has been practiced by athletes for two weeks to be unleashed against us and I will not castigate my team for not living up to a predicted score.

    Sic’em Dawgs!

I don’t think the victory is in question.

If you are playing ATS, the question becomes how much offense does UGA show and how quickly does the team get bored.

Personally, I wish we’d open the entire playbook and give teams that are preparing for us too much game footage to pinpoint tendencies and trends. Go air raid and hang 70 on their ass and make every team playing us going forward think that we are capable of doing anything at any time.

As is, we appear to be a ‘tween the tackles, jet sweep and back-shoulder throw offense. I’d love to see us add crossing routes and vertical passing between the hashes to that arsenal.

I still would like to see more throwing to the middle of the field. 2 or 3 completions there on the last drive and they were WIDE open!

We pick 6 the frost in the 2nd half, get up by as much as 28 or 31, take the air out of the ball, and then the gamblers nail-bite as Tennessee drives late to win ATS.

You’re entitled to your opinion. But I’m looking at two things. Are we one of the four best teams in the country? Do we have a legitimate shot at being THE best team in the country? If so, we should steamroll a team like Tennessee. The only team Tennessee has beaten is Chattanooga. Sure, we had a dominant second half. But one dominant half isn’t likely to win a national championship. We need to be playing a full sixty minutes at maximum efficiency. That’s not something you can just switch on in January. We need to be in that groove by this point in the season. That’s my opinion.

I never heard anything about the amazing amount of red in the stands. it looked like the crowd may have been fifty/fifty.
At the end of the game, the announcers said that Georgia “is the best team we’ve seen this year”. Coming from Todd Blackledge, that’s an impressive remark.
    Fromm was/is amazing.
    The pass blocking was super.
The second half tightening up of the defensive coverage was the difference in Tennessee’s lack of success.
The defensive line was great. Rodrigo is great.
Georgia had a touchdown negated or it would have been over early.
Tennessee missing the chip shot FG for the lead at the half was nice.
Apparently, there are still different rules for Georgia and whoever they are playing.
Thanks to the zebra for throwing that block. I hope he’s OK this morning, but if he’s a little sore I can live with it.
The Dawgs were just trolling the Hillbillies by letting Tennessee play them so close in the first half. They all stuck around through halftime only to never see their team score another point, and went home sad.
I don’t know what Kirby said to the team during halftime, but he needs to say it before the game starts from now on. That first half was tough on us Musonites.
