No brag, just fact

Hoo, boy.

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t have watched the game if the Vols weren’t playing.

How long does one have to watch to rate as a watcher? If I was Joe Blow in Oregon tuning in because the upset was brewing at 14-13 and I tuned out once it was obvious there wasn’t going to be an upset… how does that figure in to the ratings?

Not everyone in Vol Nation — hell, probably not anyone outside the UT Athletic Department — is happy about that.

    https://www.volnation.com/forum/threads/a-record-number-of-people-watched-the-uga-game-and-vol-football-is-tweeting-about-it.310002/

I am only starting to read the comments, but I hope it’s all of a piece with the genius high up in the thread who said: “Said it before, you folks don’t realize how bad people (not just us Vols fans) want to see our team competitive again. Even Vols-haters love us.”

Um, yeah, dude. I’m sure that’s it.

“Probably between UGAs ranking and Maurer starting is why viewership was so high.”

Yeah, they’re delusional. The only other games of any note on at the same time were Ohio State/Michigan State and Duke/Pitt. With options like that, I wonder why they chose to watch us… Must have been Maurer! People wanted to see him!

Hosting UGA does wonders for attendance. As long as you’re OK with a lot of red in the stadium.

Never did see and estimate of what percentage of the crowd was red/black but it sounded fairly substantial.

Was there, more than 20% Dawgs. Doubt we had 30% though.

i had to listen to the game on the radio.. there is a delay between the crowd noise and the play-by-play. It tricked me a few times because I heard the crowd and figured it was a big UT play.. turns out it was us!

I’m going to be watching when they play Vandy for key to the basement.
It’s one of my top ten games to watch this year

Prime time Sat. night in October on ESPN. Vandy would have gotten a few glances.

There are so many ways to process this.
(a The somewhat delusional vol fanbase thinks all those eyes tuned in to watch them score a moral victory over the hated Georgia Bulldogs.
    (b) The viewers tuned in to an SEC matchup with the #3 team in the country playing a traditional rival
    (c) Fans of UGA’s remaining opponents tuned in to see what their team would face when it plays the Dawgs.
    (d) The implosion of tennessee’s football program has the allure of a derailing train. While horrifying, it’s impossible to look away.
    (e) All of the above

I think some people tuned in when they saw it was a close game at the start of the 2nd.

      It then became not close.

Maybe people originally tuned in for the potential upset, then stayed tuned in for replays of Goldberg, I mean Stokes, giving Maurer his patented spear finishing move.

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

    Background:
On March 28, 1990, Michael Jordan scored a career-best 69 points in the Bulls’ 117-113 overtime win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After the game, rookie Bulls teammate Stacey King stated:
“I’ll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined for 70 points.”

Reminds me of a student affairs director I met in community college, who played varsity hoops in Michigan in the ’70s. At one point, they drew Everett HS and Magic Johnson in the state playoffs, and the guy was able to talk forever after about the night “me and Magic Johnson combined for ungodly # of pts … I had 2.”

It’s now a prime time reality series. Will the Vols ever get off the island?

That is a pretty funny take on what may have been the reason. 20 years and counting since an SEC title, and they have a losing record for the entire 21st century. Plus, they wear hideous orange unis. Yeah, it was about them.

Truth is, UGA is becoming a bigger national brand, especially for those who want someone who might replace the Bama/Clemson match ups in the Final 4. And the competition for CFB choices that night was pretty weak. Doesn’t matter, LSU/FU this week should blow that number away, although ND being on at the same time may derail that Cajun whooping of the turds.

I was at the game this weekend and UT did not look as bad as they did in 2017 or last year. If they win out (save Bama) and go to a bowl will Pruitt be building momentum or still need a 9 or 10 win season in 2020?

They don’t teach spelling in Tennessee. Plus they don’t really have a million toes to count. Or even a milllion.

You see what you want to see, and rate it like you want, too.
But if I had been a Vol I’d probably would have shut it down mid way thru second quarter for it was over for them at that point, and moved to something else.
But to Vols credit they are building it up.
Let see how their season goes.
I give them a better than a 50% chance of beating the Dores in ‘ 18.

Let me get this straight. Tennessee fans didn’t care enough about the Lols to \even show up for the game..(hence the heavy red seasoning throughout that miserable place) ..yet they believe that non-TN people all over the country were tuning in just because they think TN is so special..? I don’t think so.
BTW…that first quarter will give them enough hope that they will be expecting to win out except for maybe Alabama…who they will take into overtime. That’s the way it was in Hillbilly Hell, Oct. 9, 2019
