Who is at fault, here Derek? Nobody? Is that the way things are now? We can say something nebulous like the turnovers or execution or the offense in general, but when it comes down to it, it can’t be the coaches or the players. Is it the fans? Cause I feel like I did my part. I guess we need to cough up anouther $100 Mil to make sure another garbage team playing their 3rd string QB doesn’t beat UGA.
Kirby’s philosophy on offense is inadequate. Fromm can’t get it done when the team needs him. He was off on too many passes and made terrible decisions that cost UGA the game. The defense gave up 10 points in 4 quarters. The offense turned it over 4 times. There is nowhere else for the blame to fall. There was no bright spot. There is no reason to rationalize or sugarcoat this. It was as pathetic a performance as any UGA team I have ever watched. That doesn’t mean that I am going to quit rooting for my alma mater. I want them to succeed. Right now, though, they are on the verge of losing every bit of momentum they have built over the last three years, and it makes me sick.

There was probably no truth to them, but I remember prior to Chaney getting brought on board the rumor was Kirby was also looking either Tony Elliot or Jeff Scott from Clemson. And I don’t have to wonder what a wide-open, modern offense would look like paired with great defense because Bama, AnOSU, Clemson, LSU, and quite possibly OU (okay, “great” may be a stretch, but Grinch has them massively improved) are all doing it.
Great players + mediocre scheme will wear down the Vols, but if you want titles, there is the problem that your competitors have great players and better schemes.

I saw a whole lot of failure on offense.
We’re they unprepared? Overconfident? Poor play calling?
Who knows? I just know there was a whole lot of bad by just about every offensive player save maybe Thomas.
I don’t know that gloom and doom and figuring pointing will help.
Stupidity won’t either.
Which reminds me. Those who think 52 passes is too few are stupid.
LikeLike
It’s not the number of passes in this game. It’s that we throw 7 passes in other games and when we need to pass it, we can’t. Open it up in the other games so your QB has thrown it a bunch already when you need him the most. Route combinations aren’t there, there is nothing in the middle of the field, and when the defense plays man coverage, there is just no answer. They shrug and keep calling the same 5 yard stops and sideline fades. UGA is way behind in the offensive arms race, and Kirby needs to get it figured out real quick. If he can’t, he needs to go. There is $200+M pumping into this program annually, and they have nothing to show for it. If you want the donors to pony up, you better stop shitting the bed once a year and embarrassing said donors.

I don’t know of many teams that Georgia would have beaten the way they played today. And give USCe credit for bringing their A game.
It was a perfect storm. All of the components have been pointed out by posters. It was the most Georgia thing ever…to face plant at home against Boom and a weaker SECE program. Lot’s of “firsts” there.
Georgia is only as good as they are…or at least as they’re coached. In the next few weeks we’ll absolutely know how good…or how ordinary
Would it have been insane for CKS to pull Fromm late in the game and play SB? At least for a series? It’s what SOS would have done. Hell, you can win with a converted wide receiver if things go your way.
Kirby lacks imagination and is too cautious. He was afraid to let Rodrigo attempt the bomb FG because he was scared SC would block and run it back. That’s ridiculous reasoning Sometimes you have to bite your own nut sack to change the flow of a game. CKS won’t do that. I’ve seen Rodrigo;s 50 yarders go through with more than ten yards to spare. But this is the same mindset that we bitched about when CKS wouldn’t go for it on fourth and short against ND..I don’t want him to gamble like a drunk sailor, but dang it…being timid gets you killed.
Guy’s a hell of a recruiter though…but that might be taking a turn now.

It’s time to readjust expectations. Yes, I realize that’s stating the obvious after such a stunning loss, but nothing about the Dawgs looks like a team poised to run the table and get back to the playoffs. My hope for this year was that I thought we would have a dominant, perhaps even historically great, offensive line. It’s clear that was wishful thinking. Despite the plethora of four- and five-star talents on that unit, it’s not a tremendous group. I don’t know if it’s because those players were overrated or because our play-calling is incredibly predictable, but in any case, we’re not physically dominating people in the way I expected.
Right now, I don’t see how this team is any better than the 2018 edition. I do expect that we’ll show some fight and play well the rest of the season, because we have a track record of doing that after embarrassing defeats, but another three-loss season is looking very much like a possibility, perhaps even a probability.

Be honest, this team has not looked good all season except out of the mouths and papers of a few who have not watched closely.
I really thought we would win until that 3rd string QB hit the field. Then is was shades of Bama coming down. 3rd time that has happened to KS.
Granted SC had an extra week of prep, and the Dawgs come out of Knoxville back to Athens late, but this offense under Coley is very predicatable. Never should have a noon kick off under those circumstances.
Every team we play can fill the A and B gaps like SC did by playing man coverage against a young inexperieced group of receivers. Plus the TEs have trouble like the receivers getting separation.
Since Fromm is leaving soon, I think I would change out my OC The run game and the passing game is not producing.
AT one time the offense had almost 85 plays to SC about 60.
So much for wearing down a defense.
That was pitful and embarrasing!

I have not given up completely but I realistically don’t see it all coming together at this point. This team looks like a less talented version of Bama from 10 years ago and that is not going to do it. I see at least one more SEC loss and a trip to Tampa. Our big o-line is stiff and although good on pass protection, they can’t run block. Our recievers can’t get open against press man coverage. This was a bad loss that I used to loath Richt for. Kirby deserves a ton of shit for this one. Out coached and out played. I am worried that Kirby’s best team was made of Rich’t players and that is scary.

More and more I’m convinced that Kirby’s best team wasn’t Kirby’s at all.
It also wasn’t “led to within a play of the NC by freshman Jake Fromm.”
It was a team and a locker room led by a bunch of high character, CMR recruits.
Sony and Nick deserve the credit for that season, and it came in the heels of them being forced ton march into the office of Saban-Lite the previous year and demanding the ball while he was busy trying to play Nick as a lead blocker for iMac in short yardage.
That dumb bastard had two first round NFL tailbacks and tried to run a 150 lb punt returner on short yardage.
Subsequent seasons have shown further how overmatched Jumping Kirby is.

Agree. I won’t take credit for it as I think I read on another post. But we don’t even do anything with moving pocket or pulling lineman? I Remember the announcers doing a long talk about how SC used a “pin & pull” movement with their offensive line all game. They even did an illustration on it. No pulling our lines. No sweeps etc. maybe I’m off base but offense seems very vanilla for week 7
LikeLike
We basically removed all of the gap-blocking (aka “Power” or “Pin and Pull”) plays during the 2017 season. We have been running around a 70% zone vs 30% man-blocking this season. Our linemen are basically too large and not quite nimble enough to pull and then properly hit linebackers in space. This line is built to run Inside Zone and prevent the bull rush on passing plays.
LikeLike

I would also suggest that we don’t possess the specific talent to do much pin and pull or even pulling of interior linemen. That is not these massive SOB’s strengths. Superior pass blockers… yes but I don’t envision any of our road graders doing anything more than a simple cross block ,,,,,,our guards and center are just too slow to pull and lead a play. We have recruited to what “notso” Smart wants to run. Wouldn’t mind seeing “Boss” Andrews pulling and leading a sweep or off tackle but that is history and the lead blockers we use…i.e. our tight ends…just seem to whiff or bounce off their assignments. As someone who apologized on this cite for for my position that firing CMR would not necessarily work out I am now petitioning for permission to withdraw my apology. This lose right here…this lose to a second rate team and it’s third string QB is exactly why the fire Richt know-it all’s wanted him fired. At least once a season CMR’s teams “shit the bed ” to use the anti-Richt terminology. I feel like this lose is exactly what I was told and sold would not happen……just beat the teams you suppose to beat and it will be an improvement. This vomitous excuse for a game was not suppose to happen under the Kirbs and yet we getting loses to inferior teams like Texas (yeah I said it Texas was an inferior team) and the lamecocks.. I want Bobo as my OC ,Kirbs as my DC and recruiting coordinator and let me be the head coach and I’ll just get the F*** out of their way, Problem solved….I fell better now thanks.

2008 Florida was an all time team, they lost to a 23 point underdog.
So these things happen and teams recover.
The problem to me is that I have no faith that Coley has any idea how to run this offense. He doesn’t know how to use all the pieces, which is why I think he can’t get the play in, which results in our glacial pace of play.
This is still the most talented UGA team of my lifetime, but the coordinator turnover and the exodus of WR in the off-season were major obstacles that we might now be able to simply talent our way out of.

I think one problem we have is that we don’t have a true superstar on offense or defense. I’m talking about a Gurley, Sony, or Chubb on offense and a Roquan or Jarvis on defense. Those guys were capable of taking over a game and elevating everyone’s play. Remember how often Sony or Chubb would get hit 2 yards behind the line and still gain 7 yards? We have a lot of very good players but no superstar.
LikeLike
I thought about this after the game and it made me reflect on the 2017 team and how Chubb & Michel often made a predictable, shitty playcall into a positive gain just via their talent alone. I think there is some truth to what you’re saying, but Kirby is recruiting with the very best of ’em, so why are we stuck without that “superstar” player? Swift was considered one of the best RBs in the country coming into this season. Pickens and Blaylock were both top 5 WR recruits. Zeus was a #1 RB recruit. We should have the personnel.
LikeLike
Yeah, Swift is often a couple of yards past the line before contact. Can you imagine what Chubb or Michel would do with holes like that. I’m not trying to criticize Swift, but he just doesn’t seem anywhere near as effective as Chubb or Michel. That’s just my subjective opinion and someone may throw out some stats that “prove” me wrong, but that’s the way I see it.
I know Kirby can’t just pull a superstar out of his ass. I just hope one of the players you mentioned fills that role.

Swift suffers from our lack of blocking. He is every bit as good as advertised. Our much heralded OL is mediocre – they are pretty good in pass protection but that’s about it. The OL is HUGE and HUGE can be a liability when they can’t pull and lead a RB to the outside.

Or several and they’re being wasted?
Hard to tell. Recruiting 5 stars who are elite in space and then making that space a phone booth with the goal of wilting the will of a middle linebacker and nose guard seems like a conflict in resources and strategy.

So Kirby won’t try to win the game because he is scared they may block it scoop nd score on the last play of the game . He also let 7 or 8 seconds run off the clock before he called time out when we stopped them and then the miss the fg. I am watching UF and FL and burrow has already had 3 designed runs and trask 1 in the first qtr . LSU switches their 0 to rpo and they are on their way to 50. UGAs will have 7 or 8 O-Line drafted into the nfl plus Fromm swift Pickens , Cook , Cager etc. if you look at the teams that have won the title in today’s college football Bama Clemson Ohio st Etc they all Zone Block. For y’all that say what is that simply means they block an area vs a man in front of them like uga does. In college ball your line is allowed to block 3 yards down field ( this is why satan give in. And led David pollack to say the rule should be changed ) simply put uga runs the wrong offense. Not even saying we need to throw it more (Derick is right) but what we ask our o line to do is too much. Look at the way Clemson and their o line handled Bama , Look at how Ohio st with a3rd string Qb and a zone blocking scheme kicked that Bama ass. Why does Army take Oklahoma and Michigan to the wire ? It’s because of the scheme . The top football high school programs in Ga and across the country run the spread 0. Adopt or die. Both trask and Burrow have had at least 4 designed runs in the first half. Fromm can do what we need to do , but if he is not allowed to run the ball on the zone read , we have no chance : it is simply 10 on 11. Because you don’t want the qb to get hurt. This is on our coaching staff not our players. UGA should run rpo on every play ( see LSU ) like Derick said gotta get em all now : Here is praying.

Lone word up bro the point I’m trying to make here is. How can army stay in the game with jokelahoma and mich. it’s because of the scheme. Remember the tech games years ago when it would drive mad because they would convert all 3rd and 2 , 3 , 5 etc. . Urban went to Paul Johnson to learn how to block and run that part of his offense when he was at Smoke ur bowl and green or Utah. Can’t remember cause I been drinkin all day. When the gators ran it with Tim t they would almost always do it inverse ie percy is the outside run an tt runs up the gut. I remember in camp the dawgs using cook in the wild cat dawg. And I wish we would have just tried it today or let Fromm take off 5 or 6 after faking to swift or zeaus. If you look at the teams that beat Bama. Clesmon ; ole p twice , auburn twice Utah Ohio st with 3rd string qb. Johnny face book and Tex a. M gators when urb was there. , they all run the spread. Invented via ga southern o in 1984 from the Houston Gamblers via Mouse Davis. But southern was a run team that hung up yards on execution. Sorry to ramble . We are treating Fromm like a light bulb that will break. Meanwhile I watch Burrow and trask run it at least 5 or 6 planned runs. We do that we win If Fromm ain’t on ‘‘tis team for the last 3 years our loss total doubles period. There is a reason Saban gave in because he could not stop it due to the o line blocking 3 yard s down the field.
Rock on bro. They say a man must believe in something, I believe I’ll ha e another.

nah…don’t give up man….this ones on me I neglected to buy a new piece of UGA gear before the game as I have done before the last 15 SEC East games and therefore the gods were angry at me not you bro.

Camarda? After his last couple games, it’s possible that he was the bright spot. I imagine none of us thought it was possible but it was today. He was at least special teams POTG.
That game was so Georgia and the missed FG didn’t surprise me. I’ve just witnessed Georgia coaches and players choke at critical points of the biggest games for decades. So many losses in games that come down to a couple plays or coaching decisions. Can’t help but feel like things have been slipping since the last play of the NC and Smart seems too stubborn to do anything about it. Hopefully we got the bed wetting for this season out of the way in one game. We’ll find out because Kentucky is thirsty, too.

8-3 or 9-2 team always will be. We get our hopes up every year that maybe this will finally be the year and then get slap in the face. It’s the sad plight of the UGA fan. I have been enduring it for over 50 years. One National championship and that was with a player of a lifetime. I’m tired.

Me too.
Serious question: Why can’t/don’t we win every game?

That’s sarcasm, right?

Serious answer: I’m not asking to win every game, I’m simply asking for a National Championship sometimes. If Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma can win one, I don’t think it is too much for UGA fans to ask for one.

Just heard Kirby after the game. Y’all… he don’t get it. He’s thinking right now that LSU’s OL is just a little bigger than FU’s. Worse loss in 25 years, but the SEC is tough. Everyone is capable of beating you. No there not, doofus. Vandy is not capable of beating Bama. Missouri ain’t beating LSU. Let me help him out a little… We ain’t beating UF with this Pee Wee offense.

Hire Camden County’s oc down here in st Mary’s ga he will show the peeps how to scheme it up. Zone blocking and rpo with designed an runs see LSU vs gators. To not try the fg with 8 seconds left is Kirby’s 2nd worst call only outdone by 4 and 11 fake punt Justin fields. It’s not that we lost because I thought sc out played us. It’s letting time run offf the clock in regulation when they were 4th down and also not trying 55 yarder that he can make most of the time with 8 seconds. Awful fucn coaching. Burrow I know is faster than jake but to not call DESIGNED QB RUNS when the other team play man all day long is about Jv

tebow lost to unranked ole piss at home in 06, then went on to win the natty after. Bama did the same 1 year vs. Bo Wallace. Clemson lost to unranked pitt at home and unranked syracuse on the road….all natty teams except maybe 2 or over the last 10 years had undefeated seasons. take the lump, learn from it, get pissed, move forward, mow everyone down frome here on.

Missing Cager in the second half made a difference as there is not a second reliable option right now in the receiver personnel, which took heavy hits in the offseason. Georgia lacks the speed it had in previous years to stretch a defense and the remaining receivers are not winning their one-on-one physical battles. It’s also evident in the lack of a return game. Georgia will continue to see man coverage and a loaded box until they can get some development in the receiving corps and better utilize the backs in the outside game. This means more Cook / Robertson / Herrien as there appears to be no interest in running Fromm.
Georgia is still looking for answers in the middle of the line as there is a lot of personnel shuffling at the guard positions. Pass protection is good, but they’re not getting to the second level on their blocks. This makes the inside zone read very easy to defend, especially if the quarterback never keeps the ball. The offense has become over-reliant on it at the expense of the outside game.
With a 95 to 68 play advantage, a fresh set of legs from Herrien (who was out), James Cook, or Kenny McIntosh to the outside likely makes the difference in the game if the offense could make their front seven run the field. The tackles and backs are the strengths of this team and the guards appear to be better at pulling than they are with straight ahead blocking right now.
Offensive staff has their work cut out for them, that’s for sure.

Our OC sucks but is that also on Kirby? Does Kirby dictate what the offense is allowed to do. We have more speed and talent at the skill positions than almost every team we face – why is it not used?

Man-ball works if your OL is truly dominant. It’s easy to be dominant against weak competition; the proof is when you are playing a real opponent. Sadly, SC is not/was not supposed to be that good. The line was 20.5 points, so somebody in Vegas was screwed by this outcome big time. And our OL was not able to handle their DL very well. I agree the lack of scheme is huge; very little creativity when pressure is present; Coley couldn’t think of an answer to their coverage. Like a tight end underneath. I guess Kirby thinks those guys are just blockers. That whole thing is so old, I get tired of saying it. Exhibit A – Cole Kmet. Somehow, the Irish found a way to use a tight end. If we are running a pro set, then you think Kirby would wake up and realize that TE’s are receivers. Finally, how about the RB’s bouncing outside the tackles? I had a woman watching the game with us and she said, “Why do they keep running it up the middle? That hasn’t worked very well.” When its that obvious, it should also be apparent to Coley and Smart. Just stupid.

Well mathematically they are. Playing like that? Not so much.
My hope is that the team finally realizes they aren’t Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma or Ohio State. They ain’t even LSU or Florida. Talented enough to be… but not.
Nothing has been accomplished so far except beating teams who should never have had a chance, and now losing to one. 2017 is in the rear view mirror. So is 2018, and neither of those was good enough.
Feels like we’ve been resting on laurels that were never there in the first place.
GATA!!!!!!!!!!
