I just can’t quit you, manball.

At munus-4 in turnover margin, I guess you could say Georgia imposed its will on itself.

Today is the best indicator that the program has reached its limit under Kirby until, and unless, he modifies his philosophy. Today is on him and Coley and their penance should be running into the rear ends of the OL an equal number of times that Swift, etc had to do so.

      • Kirby is all about recruiting… doesn’t he realize how awful that offensive philosophy looks to recruits? If you never put your playmakers in a position to do anything but catch the ball and get tackled, or catch the ball running out of bounds, or run headlong into an 8/9 man box – you’re eventually going to have a problem. Today it was on the field. It might show up soon with recruits.

  6. The aggregate of marginal gains got you a home loss to a team struggling for bowl eligibility as a top 5 team. One of the worst losses in UGA history. Up there with Auburn’s ass-kicking in 1999 and Alabama’s funeral in 2008.

  7. Fromm played like a guy who sniffed pressure for the first time all season and he folded. Like against LSU. Against Auburn in 2017 (regular season). Kirbs can get them up for big games but this was the worst since Vandy in 2016.

In short we left points on the field in multiple places and without turnovers we win this game, but the TOs were pressure based (except fumble snapped) and our overall offensive strategy was pedestrian at best. This was true adversity and we didnt respond well.

Thanks, Braves…you set the tone for this shit storm over Georgia.

Kirby could have hired almost anyone for OC, yet he choose Coley, who had a mediocre at BEST track record in the ACC. Who cares if you can recruit 5 stars if you don’t know how to use em. That was the most unimaginative play calling from a Georgia offense since Schottenheimer.

I’m excited to hear all of the people who were saying the negative nancies had no merit explain this game…

Why is Trey Hill still center? Why does Tyler Simmons still see the field? Did someone steal the toss sweep from Coley’s playbook? Hold on, we just ran it up the middle again…

The offense was a shit show for a lot of reasons, but it’s troubling how little space there is for receivers and running backs. I think that has to be schematic to some extent. I was worried about changing coordinators being a problem when it happened, and I don’t think Coley is going to last. After today, I hope he doesn’t.

I also want to bitch for a minute about Fromm. He was often terrible today, and after not even glancing to the left on those two plays at the end of regulation, people can spare me with the talk of his being the best they’ve ever seen at understanding where to go and why or being so amazing before the snap.

He remains winless when passing it 30 or more times. When that was a good LSU team plus Bama 2x and a very good Auburn team (when he was a true freshman) it didn’t seem as bad.
But I think some of it is scheme too — we weren’t running a ton of great modern passing concepts (and I was concerned “man beater routes” were a thing Coley didn’t even have in the first half.)

It’s not a long list. By production, Murray and Zeier are better, and by raw talent, Stafford is. Beyond that, you have to go back to who, Fran Tarkenton? As a college QB, I think Fromm is probably better than Zeier and Stafford. It’s a shame Murray wasn’t on more complete teams..

Johnny Rauch finished his Georgia career as the NCAA career passing yardage leader. Zeke Bratkowski broke Rauch’s record and finished HIS UGA career as the NCAA career yardage leader. Tarkington retired from the NFL as the NFL career leader in completions, yards and TDs. Zeier was the SEC career yardage leader after 1994. Greene finished as the SEC yardage leader. Aaron Murray broke Greene’s records. UGA has had some very, very good passing QBs in its history.

A large portion of the fan base really really likes the fact that Fromm is a Protestant Redneck from Georgia. It is the same part of the fanbase that wanted Hutson Mason to start over Aaron Murray, a Catholic Floridian Jew.

I don’t mean redneck as an insult. It is a term with which that part of the fanbase would identify. I mean that is the sense of liking hunting and fishing (activities that I too enjoy), dipping Copenhagen, and driving a pickup. They think Fromm is better than David Greene because Fromm represents their image of “Georgia” whereas Greene represents Suburban Atlanta. They see Greene as the kind of guy that probably drives a BMW instead of F150. This is also the segment of the fanbase that really liked Pruitt.

What happened to going up to the line, diagnosing and executing like we did last week?

Didn’t look like the same offense. At all.

USC tried to give us that thing to us time after time and we couldn’t take it.

Oh well. Meaningless in the broad scheme of things. We knew when the season started we had to get to Atlanta with one loss or less.

We know overconfidence won’t be an issue anymore.

I saw a team that believed they were entitled to #3 and a coaching staff that seemingly prepared for the game with only one option, run into the backs of the linemen or throw a 15-20 yard pass, into double coverage and hope. Defense kept us in the game and Fromm looked like he forced almost every throw or threw and hoped. We had no answers on offense for anything. “impose your will”….

Kirby continues to make completely ludicrous decisions in key moments. Not even giving Blankenship a chance to attempt the game-winning field goal was coaching malpractice. Maybe Rodrigo would have choked in that spot, too, but it’s a lot less pressure kicking with the game tied than it is trying to keep the game alive.

I love Kirby, but god, he has to get better in these situations. His game management at the end of regulation may not have been as horrific as the fake-punt call against Bama, but it’s in that ballpark.

Dawgs incredibly stubborn regarding the running attack. 51 pass attempts from From should indicate an attack opposite of “manball” but it showcased how often UGA got stuffed on 1st and/or 2nd down and passed because they had to. Dawgs clearly can’t shift gears to uptempo on a whim. Not sure where this offense goes from here against better defensive units.

This team loses 4 this year and goes back into obscurity. Just hope all the happy stats talk will go away now. USC’s third string QB got them in easy FG range. Not so with our manball manager.

Sure, Fromm had a bad day. Yes, our WR’s can not create separation. Was there poor play calling? Heck yes. The major takeaway today, and what should really concern us, is that we lost the battle up front in both sides of the ball. Our OL was pushed around and our DL had very little push. This is a frightening thought given what lies ahead.

This game feels eerily similar to the Tennessee loss in ‘04. Second week of October, undefeated record, no. 3 national ranking, playing a double-digit underdog at home, and we just completely shit the bed.

That was Richt’s fourth year in Athens; this is also Kirby’s fourth year at UGA. Much has been made about how similar Kirby’s start has been to Richt’s. Many people point to that UT game as the moment when a glorious era of Georgia football began to jump the shark. I hope we don’t look back at this game years from now as a similar canary in the coal mine.

It’s one thing to beat some FCS team by 35 and manhandle them. Its another to beat an SEC opponent. And its embarrassing to have your rear end handed to you by a team who is far inferior to you in the talent arena. So, forget talking about how good these guys are. Senators post earlier in the week talked about Kirby’s desire for more explosive plays is just more pressure on an unseasoned play caller. We took shots down the field today that were just for the sake of doing so and wasted a down(s), we have been in more 3&5+ situation already this season than I can remember. And with our short yardage failures there is something that is not clicking. A five star studded O Line should be getting a push but it does not.

You said, and I am paraphrasing, that win championships a must be lucky and a coach must prepare a game plan fits the personnel he has on hand. I thought we hand the luck part today with the USC missed FG, but Coley and Kirby did not devise a game plan that allowed our talent to excel today. I have said this before. Ugh runs the wrong offense. In football today you must run a spread rpo offense with a qb that is at least a threat to run I truly believe if Fromm pulls it and runs in 5 times we win the game. Offense is allowed to block 3 yards down the fields. The last time ga southern played Florida in 2013. They had 425 rushing and did not complete a single pass .ga southern did not have one player in 22 maybe 44 who could have played for the gators yet they win the game. Kirby not going for that field goal at the end of regulation is the second worst call I have seen in 45 years of football only one worse was 4th and Kirby Dumb when fields did fake punt. This guy can coach D and recruit he also makes good half time adjustments. But his time management ( lets Carolina burn 6 seconds off the clock before calling time out at the end when we stopped em is awful. He also called to to let Carolina get set up to call a play on forth and one. He chokes and his team senses it . The only thing that kept us in the game vs a true freshman 3rd string qb were the refs. I had a gal ask me today why do they hit number 7 with 3 guys at the line every time when number 11 could run around the end if he would fake it. I said we are afraid to get the QB hurt. She responded why do they let their QB run . I said call Kirby Dumb if u have his number. Face it our coach chokes under pressure and when number 11 leaves it ain’t gonna be pretty.

Kirby does not have the intuition to call the right play or do the right thing in those key situations that end up making you a National Champion. He does know how to recruit great talent but that great talent will quit coming if we play bridesmaid again and again and again. Losing to an unranked team keeps us out of the four, regardless of what anyone else does. No one who plays in that rota will have lost to an unranked team. This is the worst loss in a decade, maybe longer. Mainly because of the expectations on this program now – expectations that were not legitimately present when CMR was coaching.

  46. Did anyone else wonder why Cook didnt get more carries? He looked to be the smoothest back against SC’s defensive approach, his best run getting called back on a hold, but we didnt see him again since Kirbs decided to keep running right up the middle again afterwards.

After mocking Florida’s off season and their lack of talent, I have zero confidence playing the team that’s playing in LSU tonight. It will take some serious man ball to win in Jax.

Trask looks like a Heisman candidate tonight against LSU…looking like a shoot out.
And also..watching Alabama this evening..did you know that some teams run punts back and improve field position? Yeah…it really can happen.

I don’t know how but it looks like Sideshow Dan has bullshitted and talked his way into Florida somehow against all odds being pretty damn good. That is almost harder for me to stomach than the shit show we put on today. I thought LSU would be up three scores by now and thought there was no wayFlorida could stay in a track meet with them. But as I type this it is just after half time and Trask, who could t unseat Franks, completes pass after pass and LSU seems to have no idea what to do about it. I have listened to a coworker talk all season about how his mighty gators are back and somehow it is like they spoke the shit into happening. That never works for us. We always think this is the year and we end up with an inexplicable loss. Kirby needs the ditch this man ball shit immediately but he won’t. He will explain it away and stubbornly continue. He has been given everything he wanted in terms or resources he has recruited the athletes. There are no more excuses. I hate to say it but I’m starting to believe this is just the way it will always be.

  51. Georgia’s big question coming into the season were their wideouts and their new OC. Kind of an odd one. We got 175 on the ground and still managed to throw it 51 times. Fromm had a rough day, but why can’t our wideouts get open against a fairly pedestrian secondary?

We need someone to step up as a playmaker at WR. Also, quit giving the ball to Tyler Simmons in high leverage situations.

Ultimately UGA has a very talented team, but we’re not an elite passing team and we’re not great at pressuring the QB either. UGA can still win the East and may still win the East, but they would have to improve a lot on both sides to be a legit playoff contender.
