Because of the elements, this one is a complete write-off. Get outta there with a W’ and go to the bye week… In all honesty, it woulda been madness to try and iron out our passing game tonight. Had the weather fouled us up trying to pass (likely) it could have damaged our psyche even more.

Defense generally controlled the game. Offense looked horrid in the first half, but once we started attacking the edges, we got control. We got a couple of breaks we didn’t get last week and didn’t have turnovers.
Manball eventually worked.
It’s now time to focus on the biggest game of the year. Win in Jacksonville, and we’re back in the picture.

This win feels like a loss. Coley is an absolute disaster. Our receivers cannot get open to save their lives and I don’t buy the weather being an excuse. Kevin Steele and Grantham will eat Coley alive with this inside zone run bullshit. The announcers were tearing Coley a new one in the first half and rightfully so.

Head-scratcher of a season to this point. Confidence is such an advantage, especially for a young team. And we are young. Florida is confident and Auburn is too. Nothing I’ve seen says we out talent either of them and we sure ain’t out coaching them right now. Mullen and Malzahn are capable enough to put together game-plans to beat us. Somebody wake Kirby up, please.

we lost 4 or 5 would-be seniors, all starters or sometime starters at least….then lost a would-be junior who was the returning reception leader due to expulsion

Third year starter at qb, multiple linemen in at least their second year as either starters or getting significant playing time. Two running backs in their third and fourth years respectively and both have seen significant playing time since they were true freshmen. Look guys, I don’t like what I see offensively either but making excuses and grasping at straws won’t help. If what you posted is your definition of a young team we will never stop being a young team. You are never going to see all juniors and seniors as starters. That doesn’t happen much anymore.

Kids are only in school for four years.
Assuming and equal distribution of starters among each eligibility level (F,So,J,Sr), and 22 starters, you will always be losing 5.5 starters and that’s assuming you start as many freshman as seniors.
With transfer portal, early entry and graduation, every school should expect to replace 30-35% of its roster each year.
Young isn’t an excuse.

Mike Bobo can’t get fired at CSU and return to be the OC / QB Coach at UGA soon enough. With this personnel, his offense would be a 40-point a game machine. Fromm would throw for 3500 yards and 35 TDs, and White and Cook would each have over 1000 yards from scrimmage, easy.
Plus, given that they’re good friends and Bobo actually has juice, here’s thinking Kirby keeps his big, fat, play not to lose nose out of Bobo’s game planning.

Grantham will bring the house against Fromm and he is awful when pressured. Hell, he can’t currently find or hit an open receiver when he has 6 seconds. I’m afraid it’s gonna get ugly. You know, 2002/3 1 for 13 on 3rd down type ugly.

I don’t know if any of you are watching the UT-Bama game but this is exactly what is wrong with SEC football. I hate UT but for crying out loud can we not get an honestly officiated game in this conference when Bama is playing? Looks like Bama may be vulnerable and out come the hankies. Anything to protect the flagship program of the SEC.

To me it seems like the pendulum has swung to the opposite direction. Richt’s teams seemed prepared for the best case scenario. Then when a bad play happened it went way wrong…from then on. Now it seems like Kirby is so concerned about resilience and overcoming bad plays that it brings about bad plays. Kind of an expectations become reality thing. “We prepared for a field position battle.” Well…you got one.
Surely there is a place in the middle.

Matt Austin today in both the Carolina game and this game came up with the lamest excuses for some of the calls I have ever seen. On that 40 yard holding call that wasn’t called on Florida on that long TD run, he was awful. Just matched it again in the Bama game when they called the Vols on for roughing the QB. Please SEC, get his butt off of TV. A joke.

I know the weather played a part but the offense went exactly as I expected and that scares the shit out of me. Even more since Kirby says he was pleased.
I don’t think a DC could have an easier job than Grantham does game planning our offense. I feel bad for Fromm. I fear coverage sacks against our three WR routes and predictable play calling. Maybe we’ll actually mix it up but if the entire season to this point is any indication…ugh.
All this means the offense will shine, the defense will struggle and Rodrigo will avenge himself as time expires.

It looked to me like the halftime adjustment was to stop wasting plays with passes and focus on Swift. The first series was 3 up the middle, but after that it was mostly to the outside.

I went to bed thinking Coley has to go. Then after getting some sleep and perspective, it made perfect sense what Kirby imposed on the team for a game plan. The primary reason the Dawgs lost last week was four turnovers. WIth the weather the way it was, there was no way Kirby was going to provide opportunities for it to happen again this week. Result – just win baby. Kirby does give a shit about style points.

Yep. I’d add that from the comments the announcers made and Fromm’s focus on keeping his hands dry, that Fromm is really bad with wet balls.
They mentioned his small hands, bad under center snaps in practice, coaches wanting him to stop flipping the ball on pass plays, etc.
That all adds up to man ball and wait for UK to make mistakes.

Never crossed the 50 in three quarters without KY having a bad punt and a fumble. After the second score, their defense quit…not because manball wore them out but because they knew their offense was really bad and it was over. Had Georgia been unlucky enough to be the team that turned it over (see last week) they likely lose or at least scare the crap out of us all. Thank goodness for the defense!

Yes, the numbers the D is putting up are impressive. However, aside from Ian Book and ND, the rest of the Os we’ve faced are not only bottom-tier, but in some cases we’re facing 2nd and 3rd string QBs. While I’m still not convinced the Gator O is anything special, they’re outperforming the Os we’ve faced to date . . . and sadly as of late our own O and by a wide margin. On an unrelated but similarly concerning note, our special teams on a good day simply follow the Hippocrates oath and otherwise surrender more plays than they make. I wonder whether Fountain is another coach who is a living room wizard but substandard in the coaching part of the gig.

Each coach looks at that roster and decides how much his team is beat up, depth, and the real games that count they have to play to win out.
And has his team peaked.
Dawgs have not peaked and their depth may begin to show down the stretch.
Last night they may have regained the mental toughness to move up.
That first half was a bitchin ride of agony and frustration, but alot was happening in that O line…not moving the ball in big runs, but sitting there and slugging it out.
That was the kind of game you need to go into Jacksonville.
The UF DC woke up this morn and has to worry about Swift.
Swift’s play last night to me may have been one of the best TB play at UGA.
So where will they run now? That is the DCs next question, inside, outside, screens, deep balls.
Those outside runs in those wet grass turf and rain said one thing. We can create more running lanes to defend.

My synopsis: The first TD was Swift through the right side of the line, not on the outside sweep. Yes, Grantham has his plate full to stop him.
We beat a team 21-0 that let FU win on their last play. FU couldn’t handle Ken any better than we did first half and they were gifted that game. Swift ran for 179 yds and that ain’t chickenfeed. He remains our big weapon that can shed tackles like ducks off a water’s back (reader’s check). Considering the weather (and we all should), Fromme’s passes were mostly on the mark, but his accuracy suffered when several passes were behind his target. That was unlike Fromme’s history and am sure it will be straightened out after having lost a game to ball handling and having to play conservative for a half.
First half blocking stunk, but got together second half. Saw one of our TEs not hold his block on an out pass and his man smothered our runner on the spot while the TE stared down at the tackle instead of looking to unblock another target. It looked a lot like what I saw with Ga St and the Tenn players standing around.
This was the wrong game to challenge our OC’s calls due to the weather dictating some of the play. In case you didn’t notice, it stopped raining after halftime and play picked up. If the rain had persisted, the final score could easily have been 7-0 or 3-0 UGA and the only reason it wouldn’t go the other way was the D’s great play for most of the second half. Everyone get over that first half and let’s proceed to the rest of our season.
Mizzou isn’t an easy out, depending on who shows up for them, FU will serve as a warmup and AU ain’t as good by a long shot. A&M is so up and down that it’s hard to get a strong win feeling. Then we have the last baby seal clubbing of the year.
Hope the time off cures the head games.

And today Kirby is bragging about what a great job he thinks Coley did and talking about how proud he is of that win and the way we “chopped wood”. This would be brilliant if he was trying to be funny. But he’s not. How he can be that tone deaf I have no idea. How he really thinks man ball is the answer I don’t know. But if he is going to stubbornly continue in this route I don’t know how long he’s going to be around.

Fromm has clearly regressed. With at times five seconds to find an open receiver resulting in record low passing yards. I’ve not come from the area so I don’t understand how against UK our receivers are unable to get separation and create passing lanes. I do know when you add the above two together you will fail against good teams. All aspects of offensive coaching seem to be in a total death spiral while Kirby says all is well.
Not since Kevin Ramsay has a new coordinator looked so lost. Shotty would be an upgrade over what the last two weeks have shown.
Does anyone not think UF plays man press coverage and flood the box with bodies to plug the running lanes and apply max pressure on Fromm.
For the first time in years I’m not looking forward to going to Jax. I really thought the SOS curse was over. I’ll go because it’s what my family and friends do every year. I’ve never in football wanted to be proven more wrong.
