SEC Power Poll, Week Eight

Kind of a wild and crazy weekend, if you ask me.

  1. Alabama.  Tua struggled physically in the aftermath of a high ankle sprain last season, but this year, after having surgery to fix another high ankle sprain, we’re supposed to believe he’ll bounce back just fine in a few weeks?
  2. LSU.  Their game with ‘Bama on 11/9 just got a lot more interesting.
  3. Georgia.  The Dawgs are giving up ten points a game in conference play.  No other SEC team is within a touchdown of that; in fact, the nearest, Auburn, is giving up almost twice that.
  4. Florida.  Continuing with the subject, the Gators’ defense has given up 13 touchdowns in conference play, compared to Georgia’s four.  I know it won’t matter in two weeks, but that’s why I dropped Florida back behind the Dawgs.
  5. Auburn.  Yeah, I know Arkansas sucks, but Auburn dropped 51 points on a team that had previously not given up more than 31 points in a conference game.
  6. Texas A&M.  I moved a team that’s looked less impressive every week up a couple of slots in this PP, which ought to tell you everything you need to know about the strength of the middle of the conference.
  7. Missouri.  It only took a week for a team to suffer a more inexplicable conference loss than the one Georgia took against South Carolina.
  8. South Carolina.  Your quintessential middle of the pack 2019 SEC team.
  9. Ole Miss.  I’ll say this for Ole Miss — they really haven’t embarrassed themselves in a game yet, which is more than you can say for a lot of the teams on this list.
  10. Mississippi State.  MSU gave up less points to LSU than Florida did, so there’s that, at least.
  11. Kentucky.  This team is such a mess on offense right now.  But they do have Tennessee and Vanderbilt left, so there’s still some cause for hope.
  12. Vanderbilt.  I have no idea how the ‘Dores beat Missouri.
  13. Tennessee.  The Vols are scoring 12.5 ppg in conference play and their freshman quarterback has been knocked out of two of the three games he’s started with concussions… hoo, boy.
  14. Arkansas.  It took you half a season to get here, but congrats, Hogs, you finally made it to the cellar.

No way would I rank is ahead of Florida right now. I haven’t watched much of Auburn this year but we should probably be behind them too

I do think we have a pretty good defense but Jacksonville will be the first time we’ve faced a competent offense since Notre Dame

Someone who admittedly has not watched Auburn and probably has not watched Florida much. We have room for improvement but there’s a reason Vegas has us favored.

    • Cojones

That’s the problem: you haven’t watched much Aub or FU play. If you had, you would see that things are worse for both those teams who have been gifted, not the athleticism but the ball. We not only can beat them both, but we can only gift them the game.

I think you would do well to review those team’s play to see that where they lack, we excel.

Just to be clear, I have watched a fair amount of Auburn and Florida. They are closer to South Carolina’s talent level than ours. We go -4 in TOs against either and we likely lose. We go no worse than -2 in TOs and I like our chances.

Bama looked pretty pedestrian on offense once Tua went out. They finally don’t have a backup to trot off the bench that can win a game for them this year.

And Maurer needs to bulk up. I’ve seen drinking straws bigger than his arms. He gets himself injured when he ragdolls around after he takes a hit.

You haven’t read Volnation? Tennessee logged another moral victory. They’re back baby, you just wait and see.

We watched the Missouri game at the tailgate. Missouri will give you penalty yardage when they get frustrated…and Ke’Shawn Vaughn will play at the next level.

FU was awarded a win by the stinkin’ SEC refs. They could have/should have won that game. I’d move them up a couple of notches.

Agree about Mizzou being a head scratcher. I won’t write them off as a threat at this time given what we are doing these days, but the Vandy game may have removed SOD from the list of candidates for the Dawgs’ OC position.

    • Uglydawg

I can only hope that the explanation for Mizzou’s loss is that Vandy has found it’s footing and is playing much better football. That the Commodores would pin a fourth consecutive loss on Tennessee is a big beautiful dream that I have.

Would love it, most CFB fans would agree. From what I have seen, it is possible for sure, but Vols at home fighting desperately would get my vote. Who knows who would be healthy at that point? Anchor Down!

Is it me or does it seem like this uga blog has been infested with a lot of trolls in the last few weeks? otherwise, i would not want any of these so called Dawg fans in my foxhole. What a bunch of absolute pussies. At the first sign of adversity, people tuck tail, run and start poor mouthing everything like you are in the Peachtree Battle book club and you can’t wait to tell Sally how much of a bitch Mary was at the country club on Sunday.

Dawgs will beat the turds on Nov 2nd.

That Florida TD number is a bit skewed. They gave up 6 to LSU. Still, throw out the highs/lows and we’re a sight better then they.

Throwing the ball is going to be gross against them since we don’t really scheme guys open and they’re more capable at DB than SC. Our defense is really going to have to step it up in Jacksonville.

I see no rational reason to have anyone but LSU at #1.
