“The message was that, ‘We’re going to be champions…’”

Easier said than done, Gus.

Auburn (6-2, 3-2 SEC) is not mathematically eliminated from the SEC Western Division race, but winning the division seems impossible. The scenario is simple, but improbable. Auburn needs to win its remaining SEC games against Ole Miss, Georgia and Alabama; Undefeated LSU, which owns a tiebreaker against Auburn, will have to lose three of its final four SEC games; and Alabama will have to lose two SEC games, including one at Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Auburn is having exactly the year that many foretold:  a good team stuck in a division with better ones.  There’s only so far you can go with a true freshman quarterback in the SEC.

I’ve heard that you can play in the National Title game with a true freshman QB.

Thinks no SEC team comes out unscathed this year (regular season).

Who does the winner of the Alabama/LSU game lose to?

Bama to LSU or Auburn. LSU to A&M or Bama. I know I said regular season, but I meant with the SECG also included….somebody gonna lose that one too.

Thinks this is the season that you only have one or two undefeated teams going into the playoffs. Thinks that is OSU and Clemson.

OSU may take it all. Best team these eyes has seen so far. But WTFDIK.

We need to remember this because if Jake leaves we will be in a similar spot. This year needs to be it.

This is what makes the hiring of Coley such a disaster. We squandered this year, “the year,” and a loaded roster on an OC with a mediocre track record who’s caused our QB to regress and brought our offense to a screeching halt. Auburn is hampered by a true freshman quarterback, but if you watched yesterday’s game against LSU, you know that Kevin Steele and that defensive front will eat Coley alive. It doesn’t help the game is in Jordan-Hare.

It’s hard to predict what Fromm will do end of year, but his stock is way down right now. If we do lose 2 more games (not unlikely), and Kirby fires Coley and hires a proven, innovative OC/QB coach, it’s not hard to imagine Fromm staying one more year. Then next year might be the year.

Saban has no problem doing it. He showed Tosh Lupoi the door after one season and they made it to the National Championship. Kirby might be stubborn, but he’s too smart to bet his career on an offensive coordinator who’s in way over his head in the SEC.

And I am not positive we have squandered anything yet as Cali indicated, but readily admit we have to step a few things up in the 2nd half of the year. We have the talent, and have had two full weeks to tweak some things. Not saying we will turn it up a few notches, that is a tough road for November, but I am not going to give up on them.

I agree that we probably have a 1 loss SEC champion. And I don’t think Auburn or Florida have the teams to win any title, should be between LSU, Bama, and Georgia with us being the longer shot.

Eh he got rid of Tracy Rocker. There’s precedent for him pulling the plug on coaches who aren’t working out as much as he’d like.

If Rocker was good at recruiting, I think its possible that he would still be in Athens. Coley didn’t get the job because he was an ace OC, he got it because of his south Florida recruiting connections.

          • Rocker was a holdover from Richt’s staff. He also wasn’t a coordinator who is doing exactly what he wants to do.

Kirby did choose to keep Rocker though, right? So he made that call to hire, and then to fire, him. I understand the difference in that Rocker couldn’t recruit like Kirby wanted whereas Coley can, but all I’m saying is Kirby has let coaches go who haven’t gotten the job done.

But I also am hopeful the offense won’t be a train wreck this week and we won’t have to keep talking about this.

Upon deep thought and internal reflection, I have concluded that I’m perfectly fine if Auburn never wins another game again.

I know you’re being smarmy, but it’s only fair to point out that in the case of Auburn that’s not really true. It’s one thing to say that when you can win out and achieve all of your goals, it’s quite another when you need the amount of help they do.

There was a pre-season position chart that showed Auburn as number one for quarterback because of Bo Nix.

So I was thinking more along the lines of Jesus, or at least Cam Newton. But Patrick works too.
