LA LA LA LA LAH! He can’t hear you!

Sure, Kirbs.  Whatever you say ($$):

Georgia assistant coaches were making a triumphant walk to the press box elevator Saturday night when one of them, tight ends coach Todd Hartley, couldn’t help but make an observation in the direction of the media.

“Lotta quiet people up here!” he said, repeating it in case the meaning wasn’t clear.

Of course, you can’t control what your assistant coaches say in the immediate aftermath of a big win… oh, wait.

“Oh, you’ve got to. If you don’t run the ball in this league, pass rushers will chew you up. When they see pass every play, they’ll feast. It’s like sharks in the water. They’ll attack you. You’ve got to keep them honest. You’ve got to wear them down. I know y’all don’t believe in it and y’all think it’s boring and y’all hate it and it’s not explosive, I get it, okay. But in this league, you’ve got to have the threat of that in order to sustain. And look, we have not arrived. We have to get better. There are a lot of things we have to work on and we’ve got some really tough teams coming up to play and that’s what I reiterated to our guys.”

“It shows that Dawg Nation is all in. There were some tough ebbs and flows in that game, their fans got back in it, our fans got back in it. But that’s what it is. It’s a helluva rivalry game. I’m just proud of the support that our fans provided for us, even if they did think Jake couldn’t throw the ball.”

Look, I’m not gonna crack down on Smart for taking a victory lap.  It was a big win in a big game and he had his team ready to play.  But I will say this:  if it took scrutiny from the media and the fans to motivate the offensive brain trust to cobble together its best game plan and play calling of the season, then I hope Kirby feels the need to keep pushing back against the outside noise.

Give yourselves a pat on the back, peeps.  As far as I’m concerned, you’ve earned it.

TFW your head coach is being a fan

Kirby had the exact same reaction to Herrien’s catch that I (and everyone sitting around me) had.

LOL, indeed.

My new favorite play of 2019

If ever there was a time to run a literally perfect play, it came just after Florida had closed the gap to six points in the second half.  That’s when the Dawgs unleashed this gem:

Trust me, it was even better watching it unfold live from my vantage point, where I saw Fromm execute the best play fake of his career.  I can’t imagine how wide his eyes were when he saw Cager raise his hand to indicate he was open.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.  Cherish it always, Dawg fans.  I know I will.

Mike Bianchi is a national treasure.

The weekend hasn’t even ended yet and this hot take already hasn’t aged well.

Your Daily Gator ❤ Todd Grantham.

Death, taxes and…

… third and Grantham.

Incredibly enough, it appears that Dan Mullen was watching a different game than I was.

“Our third down defense was really good.”

Spencer Hall wasn’t, though.

The best part’s gonna be in the offseason when Grantham’s public flirtation with another NFL team nets him yet another raise and Gator Nation crows about how Mullen kept college football’s best defensive coordinator in the house.
