By the way, with Georgia finishing this decade with a 6-4 record against Florida, can we finally put the 3-18 narrative to bed for good?

The Gator fans will just say “1980.”
The national media wants FU to be the dominant force in the East. Therefore, we’re going to keep hearing about it.
The worm has turned but the media and Jort Nation doesn’t realize it.

The 4 letter than with that narrative bc it was unavoidable. If we string together a 4th straight next year, they’ll be all over that.

Now they are talking about 9-22. Won’t bore you with the story of how, but I was listening to the turd radio station during the early part of the game, and they brought it up.
Kind of wish I could have heard more of the broadcast to hear those FMFs twisting in the wind.

Yeah I know, but the decade isn’t over until next year. 😉

Okay, we are 6-3 this decade. Whether you start it in 2010 or 2011 we won the decade, Smarty Pants.

No one gets to choose when the decade started – it is a fact that the decade started on January 1, 2011…. And yes, we have won 6 of 9 this decade so far, so we have “won” it….

Not trolling, legit question. If someone says our record is X “in the ‘10s‘” rather than “this decade”, does that change the starting and ending dates?

No argument on whether the decade started on January 1, 2000 or January 1, 2001, but I ask whether any ten year period may be called “a decade.” Is today the last day of the decade that began November 5. 2009?
Finally, I wonder the reason for the quotation marks around “won.”

The two-hundred-and-second decade of the Common Era begins on January 1, 2011. The decade where third digit of the year begins with a specific number begins on January 1, 2010. A new decade begins on both dates, and likewise on any point of time you can name. People in year zero didn’t even know they were in year zero.

The series is also knotted at 8-8 since 2004.

Suddenly, the student has become the master.
It took a few years of Spurrier before UGA fans realized the 70s and 80s were over. Florida fans think history began in 1990,but they’ll catch on eventually.

It felt like this was the first game in ages when CBS showed the all time series record instead of just the post-1990 series record. The world is right again.

Given the supposed logic that started the narrative by FU fans, the 1990s silliness is irrelevant for the same reason used to say the all-time series record reflects another era. Conveniently snatching the SOS/Goff era to define the series may have seemed clever (and intimidated some weak UGA fans so much they still tremble), but that flash in the pan period is lobg gone. The coaches are long gone, and the players of today either weren’t born in 1999, or were still hanging on a teat.
Truth is, both sides has enjoyed periods of streaks throughout the rivalry but it was always a strongly contested game throughout even the streak years where a play or two, call or two, or an injury or two could have flipped a few games. It doesn’t matter, each program is concerned that one week every season, and knows the winner of the game will play a role in whether the season is a success or not. In other words, it is still a rivalry despite the up and downs and cyclical power variations of either team.
To me, you either count recognize the overall record, or the length of time when the players are on the roster (occasionally the coaches against one another is a fair record to discuss, but with these two, not enough history yet). Point is, you don’t get to slice and dice a section of history which favors you to make your point. Either can do that, but should be called out for distorting what has been a pretty good series without either trying to minimize the other. There is enough relevant, and recent, info available for interesting conversations without creating fantasy with smoke and mirrors. Looks like the game is in a good place, and the recent players have picked up on the intensity of the game. It was a very physical game but not filled with many PF calls, or cheap shots; I liked the way both sides played on Saturday.

I remember 3-18 as much as I remember the Drought. So why exactly can no one wear jersey #40 anymore?

I think what matters more than trying to win an internet argument about records in some temporal window is the mentality of the fanbase. I started school at UGA in 2000 and we were always afraid of blowing it down there, even when we were better. Neither the fans nor the players are afraid of Florida in that way any more, and Florida is the team that comes in tight and feels a ton of pressure relative to this game as opposed to the impact on season overall (which is where our pressure game from this year).
Who is in who’s head? If you’re not saying Georgia is in Florida’s head right now, you’re just ignoring reality.

Bingo. The all time series records are important to me but the emotional elements are more important.

Hell no we can’t put 3-18 to bed! That needs to be paid back, with interest. Two timeouts is still unavenged, half a hundred in Sanford stadium is unavenged. This is called a good start, but we have plenty of unfinished business. Yeah we’ve turned the tide but we shouldn’t be happy until we’ve burned down their cities and salted their fields. We got ’em on the run boys, now finish them!!!!!!

I haven’t read the comments but Gary Danielson’s post game break down was nauseating. After Fromm’s performance all he wanted to talk about was Kyle Trask and how hard Florida
Competed. When given another chance to talk about Fromm’s game the best he could manage was that the SC game wasn’t all Fromm’s fault and he made a passing reference the pass blocking in the Florida game. It was obvious that he absolutely did not want to give Georgia, the team who won, any credit and was white knuckling to the Florida is back narrative. He is a pussy mouth deuche bag and he plays favorites. I can’t stand him. Why did we have to lose Verne instead of him?

I’ll never forget the honor of attending the Munson radio booth dedication game when UGA played UT almost a decde ago. We won something like 52-48, it was a shoot-out. Anyway, before the game the Munson clan (and I) were treated to going into the Munson Press box to meet the UGA crew (Eric and Scott were fantastic) and then the CBS booth pregame to meet Verne and Gary. Verne stopped his pre-game prep to turn around and greet us all enthusiastically- he didn’t have to do that. Gary just couldn’t be bothered.
Fast forward to halftime. We’re standing in the press box area outside the CBS booth (which was next to UGA Munson Radio Booth) and Verne came out to chat with us and take photos for literally 10 minutes. He was total class. Gary didn’t even acknowledge the family for a second on the way out for a bite and a drink. Of course they ran a package of the dedication during the broadcast- and Gary read his script like someone who GAS about the Munson legacy. Verne spoke from his heart. It was obvious he couldn’t be bothered with such pleasantries. It’s all about what folks do, not what they say. I was never a Gary fan before, much less afterwards.

Sounds about right. What a classless pig that guy is. Also, I watched his post game stuff again. It was even worse than I remembered. He ended it by saying Georgia has to get a lot better and will not beat LSU or Alabama if they don’t. Now I don’t disagree with that but he said that after refusing to say anything good and lauding Florida for how hard they competed. Screw him.

I may be mistaken but I believe he resides in the state of Florida now so if that’s the case he might be a bit jaded- in the UF direction.

No I think you’re right that he does live in Florida. That’s a good place for him. And hearing him say 3rd and Grantham was hilarious.
