So you’re saying there’s a chance…

As the result of an open records request, Seth Emerson ($$) is reporting that a May 20th offer by the city of Jacksonville to extend the contract for the Cocktail Party through 2026 wasn’t accepted.

    Gosh the media just won’t let this rest even for a little while. Their infatuation with it is comical.

      Haven’t you realized by now that once the media latches on to topic it becomes their personal crusade? Just look at how many posts Blutarsky has made on the topic of ‘Pay for Play’. I think you must be partially obsessed to be a reporter or blogger.

        You’re spot on perhaps DawgByte. I actually write a sports column for a small-town weekly newspaper and worry myself sick about repeating myself. I’ve been doing it for 16 years and know my small, local audience very well so I’m not interested in going national!!! Nonetheless the JAX location is the proverbial dead horse IMO.

    Yeah. We like to be able to negotiate a better deal as often as we can. Who wouldn’t? The schools are holding all the cards here. Not Jacksonville.

    Reading the tea leaves it appears ADs feel a change is coming. They’re willing to schedule big time opponents waaaaay out, but they get skiddish about a long term deal like this. I’m not smart enough to know where it’s going, but it has to be about money.

    For the record, I’m a fan of the Cocktail Party staying in Jacksonville. There is no better weekend for a Dawg fan when it includes a win. However, with the new series with OSU I pondered the fact that we seem to suddenly have more scheduling flexibility after 2025. Coincidence or just the fact you always have more leeway that far ahead?

    It’s always about the money, and will continue to be…..and….it’s a lot easier to bleed the JAX turnip with a shorter contract. In addition, Kirby is wanting to see if recruiting possibilities for the site can be made to enhance his reasons for continuing the game there….

    Maybe it is just me, but i cannot imagine how anyone could think there is a better environment in college football than the Cocktail Party, inside or outside the stadium. It is difficult to even describe what a crazy and fun environment it is! Truly an experience unlike any other…

    Serious talk is that the Jags are looking for another home. Except for the Ga/Fu game, what will that stadium be used for that would generate moola to support maintenance/upgrading?

    The game will be in Jacksonville forever, (maybe not forever). There are many reasons. One is that a home game requires maybe 20,000 tickets that Ga loses because GA must supply tickets, that is student and faculty tickets which the Ga. A.A. get probably $10.00 per ticket. There are NO student or faculty tickets for the game in Jacksonville. Every body pays full price. The other main reason is this game has become a major TV attraction and it is hard to come up with a good reason to go home and away when you will lose that TV appeal. ( $$$ )

      Another factor favoring the game remaining in Jacksonville is that the UGA AA staffers and families get a Florida weekend vacation on the UGA AA’s dime.
