What a way to go

This is what having your bowl game aspirations, as mediocre as they might have been, shut down looks like, in one play:

Sadly, this wasn’t even the most humiliating loss an SEC team suffered yesterday.  But it might be enough to cost Boom his job.  Again.

(And, yes, before you go there, I know Georgia lost to South Carolina.)

How on earth did we lose to these guys?

That it the question I’ve asked myself, and others, countless times since we played them. And I’m sure I’ll keep asking it until next season.

Davis out, Cager out, Campbell out, inexperienced receivers, dropped balls, 4 turnovers and 2 missed field goals…..perfect storm.

We will never know. When you combine everyone’s certainty that we were going to win that game with the fact that we did not, you have everyone primed for cognitive dissonance. This results in people rationalizing dozens of seemingly logical reasons as to why we lost.

For some people, the fact that we had 58 called passing plays is an illusion that didn’t happen because Coley is a moron that called for them to run it up the middle every play.

For others, it is the play calling. They think Coley is calling the wrong plays. Instead of calling for Fromm to throw 3 interceptions, he could have called for the WRs to catch the ball and score touchdowns. For these people, if a WR is wide open and drops the ball, it was a bad play call.

The Senator believes that Kirby cares more about out-physicalling the other team than he does about having a functional offense (or, presumably, even winning games). Kirby has never told the Senator about is priorities, but the Senator intuitively knows Kirby’s secret inner-thoughts and motivations (which totally isn’t mind-reading). He also believes that you are mentally deficient if you can’t do that too.

I think the team read their own press clippings and didn’t put in the work they needed to win the game against a highly motivated opponent. The lack of focus resulted in 4 turnovers and an inability to get open against man coverage. I had the very distinct feeling for the entire second half that everyone on offense was waiting for someone else to make a play. I could be totally wrong though.

We lost to South Carolina for the same reason Mike Tyson lost to Buster Douglas. There are dozens of “reasons”, but we will never know the real reason as to why.

That is one of dozens of “reasons”. You could argue that Tyson and Givens had been divorced for a year. That is plenty of time to get your shit together and be prepared to fight Buster Douglas. Douglas wasn’t even the #1 contender. Douglas was just a dude that was willing to let Mike Tyson punch him in the head for money while they were setting up Tyson vs. Holyfied.

Why did Tyson lose? Mental illness? (he was crazy before). Cocaine and alcohol? (well, he did that while destroying everyone else). Lack of physical training? Lack of mental preparation? Who knows. All we do know is that not one single person on the planet though Douglas would get a KO in the 10th round.

I should add that Tyson had this fight against Carl Williams a few months earlier and it too was after the divorce.

Good points, watched that one live. No one to blame but himself.

As far as the loss to SC goes, no one else to blame but the players??

I don’t know. If I did, I would be about to move to Fayetteville to be the next HC at Arkansas.

This is what I posted in the “Whither Manbal” post here after the SC game:

This team, like last year, lacks leadership. They are in desperate need of someone to pull as Shawn Williams circa 2012 to get their heads out of their asses. This team is way too talented to play like they are. I’m not saying the coaching staff is doing a good job, but there is only so much they can do.

I followed that up with the following in this post: https://blutarsky.wordpress.com/2019/10/15/just-another-bizarre-moment-from-a-bizarre-day/

This team strikes me as feeling entitled. The slow starts were indicative me to of a team that did not put in the work they needed to prepare that week; that they may work at practice, but they might not be doing things the right way off the field. We had a large uptick in arrests as well.

I took my mother shopping after the game. When she asked me what went wrong during the game, I spent the next three minutes explaining how I don’t like this teams attitude. Well see if someone on the team takes the reigns.

This team doesn’t have the leadership of 2017 team. We have a lot of talented young players, but they need upper-classmen like Nick, Sony, Isaiah, Lorenzo, and Davin to hold them accountable and teach them how to handle themselves correctly. I could be totally wrong though.

I regularly post under the name “Anonymous”. About 80% of the posts with that name are from me. I don’t suppose your real name is “SC Dawg”.

I post under the name “Anonymous” because I think people should pay more attention to what was said than who said it. I do use the same (fake) email address for each post though.

You can be snarky all you want, but those are direct quotes from what you wrote.

We both proposed ideas. Yours was stated as a fact followed by several posts that assumed his addiction to manball was real. Mine idea was prefaced with “We will never know” and followed with “I could be totally wrong though”. I understand that I am just as likely to be experiencing cognitive dissonance as everyone else.

You can try making a counter-argument to my idea. Why don’t you use your lawyering skills to propose why the team was actually well focused and prepared, they were just failed by a coach failed man-ball (since he believes that man-ball can’t fail [also a quote from you]). I would really like to hear your reason as to why Kirby would say the team was not ready to play if they were actually ready. Did he know that he was about to fail man-ball?

Kirby reminds me of Coach Gene Brody of Tift Co. back in the day , if his teams could bully you they would beat you if not they for the most part would loose. Kirby has that mentality, I just wish he had coaches or players that he could trust. He acts like he doesn’t trust any of them. Just my thoughts!!!!!

Without the last paragraph and the last sentence in the penultimate para, that is a classic and accurate synopsis of why we lost. About time someone expressed it so.

Well, the only other time Boom beat us, he also got fired in the same season.

So the lesson for Boom is… don’t beat Georgia. Ever.

They should have changed the locks on Chad Morris’ office before that game ended yesterday. Either that or the SEC should revoke their membership. Losing 35-7 AT HOME to WKU is a disgrace, and a disgrace to the hundreds of family members and other fans in the stands.

I’ll say it again..Boom is the most overrated coach there is.. bar none. Plus he’s a gigantic horses ass to boot. He deserves all of this. But, Cocks.. please don’t fire him. Hey.. a guy can dream can’t he?

I’m pretty sure there was a penalty called against South Carolina on the play, anyway (Holding, I think). So even if he hit Edwards for the touchdown, it would have been called back. Plus, I think it would have been an automatic 10-second runoff, so the game would have ended either way. Now THAT would have been the most South Carolina way to lose.

God, that stupid game against the Cocks is looming so large right now. Without it, we’d have a lot of margin for error the rest of the way. Instead, Auburn and LSU are now absolute must-win games if we want to make the playoffs.

Just an absolutely ridiculous loss that put us so far behind the 8-ball. I’m still mad.

Worth it if it makes the team more focused at Auburn this time.

With our loss to carolina, UAT probably punched its ticket for the playoffs with a close loss to LSU. They will cruise through the rest of their schedule and will be the first one loss team in. UGA might have been the first one loss team in if that loss was a close loss to LSU in the championship game.

You left out that it was a noon start and the Cocks had an open week to practice the offense ( throw to the tight end) /defense ND threw at us. Dawgs have traditionally struggled with early starts. But hey, BM got that sweet network money…

Sadly, since the Dooley years USCjr has be obnoxious, delusional, fanatical fan base that gets up to play 2 games a year. In the beginning USCjr was the first game of the season and for some unfathomable reason UGA has played down to their level. Clem and his Son is the only game that means didlysquat to those fairgrounds from hell chickens.
Perhaps we had some delusional thoughts of greatness for the Dawgs by reading to many click baits while exploding against the small schools who sacrificed their football team for the UGA payoff to run their entire athletic budget. Then the SEC started or what was the SEC ( you could have graduated UGA, got your Masters degree and become a Doctor before if you in the area see aTM play ) After last nights game I think the only expansion has been of TV timeouts, continuous reviews that seem never to end and video boards replays. It’s hard to start a fire ( momentum) when you stand on the sidelines waiting 5 minutes for TV to make 4 15 minute quarters last 3 hours and 45 minutes. The only thing that takes that long to get out of parking lot and on the hi-way

  16. I’d argue that this loss by USCjr magnifies how monumentally flawed their program truly is and the magnifies what a fluke it was that they won in Sanford. Everything they needed to make the upset against us HAD to happen to enable them to pull the upset, absolutely everything! It was their perfect storm. USCjr has shown by their play before and after that it was nothing but truly a fool’s gold win. I’d also argue that losing to that out of conference opponent is actually worse. Whatever that is worth, which really isn’t much. It hurt us, no doubt.
