The biggest impact the early signing period has had on college football is…

… this, and it’s not even close.

You can’t afford to hang on to a lame dog like you used to.  The recruiting time frame is too compressed for that now.

In other words, Morris won’t be the last one to go before season’s end.

  1. The problem is that you typically aren’t going to have a coach in place until after season’s end, so the recruiting impact is just the same. An AD really has to be able to fire a guy on the Monday after Thanksgiving with the next guy waiting in the wings by Wednesday due to back channel conversations with agents and coaches’ representatives.

    • What makes you think that isn’t already going on at Arky and FSU?

      • I think it’s happening. The problem is firing now has no recruiting benefit … the negative recruiting (especially for F$U) is happening regardless. It’s just how do you know you want to play there given you have no idea who the coach is going to be rather than negative recruiting against the current coach.

Those 2 are simply horrendous head coaches with no hope. They both need to be fired because heir teams have quit on them. It was like when Dooley fired Ron Jirsa after year 2 in 1999. When you are getting blown out by WCU at home, you fire yourself.

What’s the difference if they hung on 3 more games?

Firing coaches early in their tenures is not related to the early signing period. It merely dictates the timetable for the firing (during the season instead of after it). Coaches have been given less and less rope for a while now. The five-year cycle had been reduced to three already, and if you’re showing no improvement, two is the new three, apparently.

Not the point being made here. It’s the being fired mid-season that’s different, and that is because of the early signing period.

Then my question is, “So?” I guess there’s an alternate reality where Taggart upsets Florida to get bowl eligible and saves his job for one more year, but odds are, if you’re getting fired during your second season, you were going to be fired after it with the old recruiting schedule.

So who’s the next Boom to drop? I mean coach?

I’m kind of curious whether or not the Georgia win will save him. They need another pretty big upset just to avoid 4-8 and that plus another gargantuan upset to get bowl eligible.

Boom’s own fault. Losses to UNC and Appy State. Come on.

Oh, I don’t think there’s any particularly good reason to retain him. I’ve never understood why they hired him in the first place.

And once he’s fired that mother fucker should be permanently banned from the UGA campus. If Kirby even thinks about bringing him in as an analyst, there should be a major backlash. Not only did he condone destroying the hedges, he encouraged it and even participated. His name should be taken out of the record books as a letterman, and all privileges associated with that should be revoked. I really hope some of his former teammates get after his ass over this.

Those guys were bad hires in the first place. I remember when Arky hired Morris thinking WTF? And Taggart is the new Weiss, bullshitting programs into paying huge sums for his non-existent skills.

Question is, whether LSU OC Brady takes the money and runs, or does he play out the season? He’s got to be in the top 2 of everyone’s HC list right now.

How bad was Dowhower as a coach? 23 years later and people are still calling him Rob instead of Rod.
