Had it all the way.

I must have aged ten years in the fourth quarter.

Congrats on another SEC East title, Dawgs. You made the fan base work for it today.

9 three and outs. Kudos to the defense, but the offensive playcalling is still a liability.

Agreed. Smart took a shot at the D for letting AU back into it in the 4th, but dammit, how about the O mustering just one first down in the 4th quarter? Instead, it was 3 and out after 3 and freakin’ out.

Awesome win in a very tough environment. But, is Kirby masochistic? Does he not remember AL1 and AL2. Put teams away when you can! Don’t let off the defensive gas….it allows the other team to get in rhythm.

Our D was stifling them, and then we went away from what we had been doing. Why would we do that? I’ll never understand it.

  6. That felt too much like the NC game. Amazing how complacent we seemed to get after 3 quarters. Even more so than usual on offense but the Grantham zone on D??

One play that makes me question Coley’s ability to coordinate a championship offense- Herrien goes down after that bullshit tackle and we run Cook up the gut. Come on! Why would you ever do that to that guy?

They went in there and mostly handled Auburn when many doubted. Again, this team is ready for a fight even if it’s self made. Go Dawgs!

    • Running up the middle against Auburn was just dumb. That is the strength of their team, and running outside worked, yet bunch everyone together and run it up the middle. It is not manball; it is dumbball.

Our second half offense was 1 twelve play drive for a TD and 5 three and outs.

    Manball?
    Coley?
    Fromm?

    I dunno, but they’re struggling.

Similar pattern. Dominate for most of the game and then start playing not to lose. Exactly how we lost to Bama twice. Great win but when will Kirby learn???

Dawgs withstood a huge momentum swing when they could have folded.
Auburn has a great defense and the crowd was a huge factor.
Dawg D forced Nix have to play perfect on those last couple of AU possessions and he couldn’t.
The last couple of plays they got after his ass and won a game after the offense had checked out.
It’s a win over Auburn! I’ll take it and celebrate. TAM and GT should be easier. Dawgs have faced two great defenses in two weeks.
Now if someone will just steal Kirby’s milking stool…

Oh yeah. Nine 3 and outs, 1 total yard of offense (not counting kneeldowns) in the 4th quarter. None of that fits a pattern that’s cost a game so far this season, or could get the team in trouble vs any other teams on the schedule. Jake Fromm having the worst stats of his career? That couldn’t possibly be a factor vs TAMU or LSU in a few weeks…

Oh yeah. Won and beat the spread.

That means something. Those guys had really good defensive players and we scored more than Auburn’s scoring average and scoring average average against SEC teams only. We only scored 2 fewer points against Auburn than LSU scored against Auburn in Auburn.

Glad to have it, but we certainly made it harder than it needed to be. We got very lucky on that onside kick that everyone not a Georgia coach saw coming.

Now, finish the season strong and get ready for LSU. I like our defense and think they give us a good shot.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Uglydawg

NO we did NOT “get lucky” on that onside kick.\
Auburn got lucky that an illegal block kept Georgia from having the ball on their 45.
We almost certainly would have fielded it cleanly had the Georgia player it was bouncing too not been blocked away from it by an Auburn player. It was the equivalent of hitting a punt returner before he catches the punt.
I think there’s a great chance he would have handled it and Georgia would have had a short field to work for 3 points. As it were, Auburn took their chance and when it didn’t work, they still got to kick us deep.

Nope. 4 against 7-8 trying to recover an onside kick is lucky. Correct call against Auburn but still shouldn’t have been caught unprepared like that.

Ah Ha! How could I be so blind?! Kirby is brilliant. Of course he played this tight. Blowout Auburn (like we clearly could have) and this team gets a big head, loses focus. Now look how he’ll be able to keep them believing in chopping wood. I’ll swear I saw Jake come over the the sideline after a missed throw on a 3 & out begging Kirby to let him loose, but Kirby patted him on the head and told him, “no, we’re keeping this tight”.

Again, if you don’t believe me, how else do you explain this? Cook up the middle? Nobody calls that if you’re trying to move the ball.

That Kirby, he’s a sly one. I feel soooo much better now. Go Dawgs!

It was like getting a root canal. Every muscle in my body was tense until we went up by three scores…
After the third TD, it looks like CKS decided to let Auburn move the ball but keep everything in front of you and don’t allow the quick strike. That’s a good strategy with less than ten minutes left..but not as early as Kirby starts it.
    Whew..
But all’s well that ends well.
Besides, Auburn fans got all excited and thought they had Georgia on the ropes.
Sacking Nix on that last play was a hob nailed boot of sorts.

If I truly believed there wasn’t that much talent on offense, maybe I could. But there are good WRs on the team, Fromm has put up excellent numbers when Chaney called the plays, and the offensive line is elite. Better play-calling and this could have hit the 2012 game levels of blowout, and then the defense isn’t as tired in the 4th and any hope the Barn had is long crushed out of them.

  26. Glad we got the W. I’m thrilled we’re 9-1 and champions of the East with a chance to play the nation’s current #1 in December. BUT!!!

Our last non-victory-formation drive was a three-and-out which featured:

1st down: Run up the middle for minimal gain
2nd down: Run up the middle for minimal gain
3rd down: pass play behind the line of scrimmage for no gain.

This, on a drive which all wisdom – conventional or otherwise – would dictate that you NEED to extend your drive to keep the opponent from having a chance to tie the game….

    I just don’t get it.

    • Will (The other one)

Five of the nine 3 & outs were runs on 1st and 2nd down (for no more than 3 yards).
Fromm’s numbers were not pretty, but that kind of play calling is basically setting him up so the majority of his pass attempts were obvious pass plays.
Play action to make the defense pay for stacking the box, or to make those 2 yard runs worth it? Nah, we got none of that.

That drive was indeed more successful than you think.
It forced Gus to burn all of his timeouts.
That made his offense one dimensional on his last drive..Nix would have to throw the ball and the Dawgs could lay their ears back and go after him…which they did.
While I’d prefer a little more productiveness on offense, it did work.

Started last year with a withering loss to Clemson, wins over a so so schedule this year and a disjointed loss to LSU. Saban seems to be coaching from a position of desperation. Yeah, they have injuries but something’s off with him. Anyway, I think the beginning of the end is nearer than we know.

For those Georgia fans that were appalled at the three and outs at the end when Auburn had seized the momentum,…those three plays forced McGus to use up his time outs. This meant that after Georgia punted, Auburn’s offense would necessarily become one dimensional. The lack of time wouldn’t afford running plays. So Georgia’s defense was able to just go after Nix, and they did..sacking him on their final play.
It was a better strategy than it looked to be at the time. I too, was bewildered but it worked.
Now the pressure is off. The Offense can work on getting better and maybe pull off a huge win as an underdog against LSU.

12 of the last 15 vs. AU. Not bad. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, things seemed hopeless as AU took a 4-5 game lead in the series. Now UGA leads 60-56 all-time.

By the way, IMO this was AU’s best shot to beat us for a few years. 13 of their 22 starters were seniors, including all of their best players (Davidson, Brown, etc.). They lose a TON after this year and, based on their recent recruiting, they aren’t replacing those starters with near the quality of underclassman as we are.

In other words, we should be in really good shape against them moving forward.

Actually “The Other Will” to be specific UGA had +2 yards of offense in the 4th quarter. Never once did UGA take advantage of the HUO. However Auburn scored in 63 seconds on their second score.
Defense line up with 4 down line and vanilla cover 2. Thank Goodness we actually got a few breaks and the zebras missed the FACEMASK or it could have been another OT.
For 3 quarters Kirby didn’t lose his composure. Then the anal glands tightened and it was a free for all. I am pleased that the Dawgs won but this just puts on hold the misery to come.
I am glad that the Dawgs get to the SECCG again. Perhaps a Kirby can pull a rabbit from his visor. My thoughts the talent level between Auburn and UGA was evident for 3 quarters.
I think the Dawgs can manage to show up half assed against aTm and the North Avenue Trade School but the talent level between LSU is about the same equivalent to UGA’s superiority over Auburn. That being said without turnovers and the flu bug hitting Baton Rouge my ideals and prospective of the season is in flames.
Welcome to the Orange Bowl fellow Dawgs.
Playoffs my ass, perhaps the computers had IT right pick 2 and be done with the whole season. Then the few bowls that made college football interesting might prevail. Just do away with the 7-6 or 6-7 matchups where you can’t give away tickets.
That leaves the Sugar, Rose, Cotton and Orange bowl ( you could add the Fiesta bowl ). To hell with corporate sponsors and the TV timeouts they rode in on.

We did win, though, against AU in their house. We tried to go UF game on D in the 4th and keep everything in front of us. They ended up going through and around us. We also went three straight three and outs when we needed a first down like Grantham needs a team to punt on third down. But we won. I actually believe we might can hang with the better Tigers. I’m surprised our record against Auburn In the last two decades isn’t getting the media attention that the bad times against Florida is getting. I’m loving it though! Whatever the criticisms are against our offense, it’s clear by now that our defense gives us a puncher’s chance against whatever team we play. The thing I don’t understand is that, with the talent we have on offense, why don’t we open things up more when we clearly can when we need to? Why does it have to be a scenario where the defense carries the day? Why not have both sides dominating?

Then again, maybe that’s asking a lot. Not many teams can do that. It just seems like we have the talent to do so but are not doing that.
