I must have aged ten years in the fourth quarter.
Congrats on another SEC East title, Dawgs. You made the fan base work for it today.

9 three and outs. Kudos to the defense, but the offensive playcalling is still a liability.

Agreed. Smart took a shot at the D for letting AU back into it in the 4th, but dammit, how about the O mustering just one first down in the 4th quarter? Instead, it was 3 and out after 3 and freakin’ out.

Exactly what I expected and hated it. I wonder if we can keep our focus for the next two?
You honestly hated a road win against Auburn that clinched the east? Maybe ask your doctor about Lexapro.
Awesome win in a very tough environment. But, is Kirby masochistic? Does he not remember AL1 and AL2. Put teams away when you can! Don’t let off the defensive gas….it allows the other team to get in rhythm.

Amen. Keep your foot on their throat. 4th quarter totally sucked.
So it’s the defensive gas now? Should that be brakes? Whatever. It’s your metaphor.
Our D was stifling them, and then we went away from what we had been doing. Why would we do that? I’ll never understand it.
Meanwhile, the offense kept going away from what was working.
The D backed off and let Auburn complete passes in front of the DBs I.e. the prevent defense which usually prevents you from winning.
Because playing man forever is tiring. Zone exists for a reason.

That felt too much like the NC game. Amazing how complacent we seemed to get after 3 quarters. Even more so than usual on offense but the Grantham zone on D??
One play that makes me question Coley’s ability to coordinate a championship offense- Herrien goes down after that bullshit tackle and we run Cook up the gut. Come on! Why would you ever do that to that guy?
They went in there and mostly handled Auburn when many doubted. Again, this team is ready for a fight even if it’s self made. Go Dawgs!
Running up the middle against Auburn was just dumb. That is the strength of their team, and running outside worked, yet bunch everyone together and run it up the middle. It is not manball; it is dumbball.
Our second half offense was 1 twelve play drive for a TD and 5 three and outs.
I dunno, but they’re struggling.
Similar pattern. Dominate for most of the game and then start playing not to lose. Exactly how we lost to Bama twice. Great win but when will Kirby learn???
When they get to the 4th quarter, I’m not sure if I need more beer or more TUMS
What does he need to learn??
We won by 7in Jordan-Haire!
Last time there we lost big.
HellSU won by 3 at their place.
SEC Champs three years in a row!!
Recently taught my 15 year old daughter the rules of the game. Before she would watch, half interested, and not have a clue what was going on, but tonight she was on the edge of her seat just like me. Not joking here…but she asked me why we keep running up the middle “where all those guys are.”
We are supposed to be “exerting our will” when we do that. That’s what I’ve been told. Congrats on coaching your daughter.
Anyone see Jordan Davis in the 2nd half? I didn’t look every play but didn’t see him once when I did.
Yes, I saw him in the 3rd and 4th quarters
Ok, good to hear and thanks. Didn’t know he was still hurt or got hurt again or if the other guys are just playing better. We play so many guys on D it’s sometimes difficult to keep up.
He made the tackle on Nix on the rushing TD we finally gave up, yes he was definitely playing.
Dawgs withstood a huge momentum swing when they could have folded.
Auburn has a great defense and the crowd was a huge factor.
Dawg D forced Nix have to play perfect on those last couple of AU possessions and he couldn’t.
The last couple of plays they got after his ass and won a game after the offense had checked out.
It’s a win over Auburn! I’ll take it and celebrate. TAM and GT should be easier. Dawgs have faced two great defenses in two weeks.
Now if someone will just steal Kirby’s milking stool…
Let’s see. Scored more points than folks predicted. Won by as bigger margin than many predicted.
Looks like a reason to complain.
Oh yeah. Nine 3 and outs, 1 total yard of offense (not counting kneeldowns) in the 4th quarter. None of that fits a pattern that’s cost a game so far this season, or could get the team in trouble vs any other teams on the schedule. Jake Fromm having the worst stats of his career? That couldn’t possibly be a factor vs TAMU or LSU in a few weeks…
Oh yeah. Won and beat the spread.
That means something. Those guys had really good defensive players and we scored more than Auburn’s scoring average and scoring average average against SEC teams only. We only scored 2 fewer points against Auburn than LSU scored against Auburn in Auburn.
So, you’re saying we lose to LSU by 2??? /sarcasm/off
No, I am not. I am saying that scoring 21 points against that defense at their place was a good result, contrary to the complaining.
I will bet that very few GTP readers were predicting us to score 21 and win by 7.
I do think the combination of our defense and LSU’s defense gives us a chance to win.
Well said…THW the whiners.
Sec east champs 3in a row!!!! Hell of a game boys!!!
Glad to have it, but we certainly made it harder than it needed to be. We got very lucky on that onside kick that everyone not a Georgia coach saw coming.
Now, finish the season strong and get ready for LSU. I like our defense and think they give us a good shot.
NO we did NOT “get lucky” on that onside kick.\
Auburn got lucky that an illegal block kept Georgia from having the ball on their 45.
We almost certainly would have fielded it cleanly had the Georgia player it was bouncing too not been blocked away from it by an Auburn player. It was the equivalent of hitting a punt returner before he catches the punt.
I think there’s a great chance he would have handled it and Georgia would have had a short field to work for 3 points. As it were, Auburn took their chance and when it didn’t work, they still got to kick us deep.
Nope. 4 against 7-8 trying to recover an onside kick is lucky. Correct call against Auburn but still shouldn’t have been caught unprepared like that.
Nope. We were clearly prepared… hence why we had 2 guys right there ready to recover it before Schwatz came in and blew them up
Win and advance. The West road jinx is dead. Run the ball and stop the run. We owned the red zone. The defense played their @$$3$ off.
For you Debbie Downers who were saying we would finish 9-3 or 8-4 after the South Carolina game and we would be watching FU in December, I hope your crow au vin tastes good tonight.
Where’s big mouth TN and his jerkoff fantasies?
Thank you, ee. My sentiments exactly. I will take 21-14 5 more times.
I’d take it too, but the odds of winning multiple games when you only get 1 yard on offense the entire fourth quarter is…not good.
Run some more play action, get a little less predictable on 1st/2nd down, get the offense non constipated and that win margin could go way, way up.
Win. Margin. IDGAF. Win > Margin.
Ah Ha! How could I be so blind?! Kirby is brilliant. Of course he played this tight. Blowout Auburn (like we clearly could have) and this team gets a big head, loses focus. Now look how he’ll be able to keep them believing in chopping wood. I’ll swear I saw Jake come over the the sideline after a missed throw on a 3 & out begging Kirby to let him loose, but Kirby patted him on the head and told him, “no, we’re keeping this tight”.
Again, if you don’t believe me, how else do you explain this? Cook up the middle? Nobody calls that if you’re trying to move the ball.
That Kirby, he’s a sly one. I feel soooo much better now. Go Dawgs!
Someone cares how you feel?
You sound about as fun as colon cancer. FFS we just clinched the east.
Celebrate today. Complain Monday.
He sucks. We used to be so much better than we are now. I long for when we were plucky underdogs who watched Florida or Tennessee teams that were not as good as us win the East. Someday maybe we’ll be back there. Til then “Go Fucking Dawgs!”
We have a great chance to finish the regular season 11-1 for the 3rd year in a row. The last time we went 3 years in a row with just 1 loss or fewer each season was 1980-1983. Never before that. Historic run.
But Kirby is stupid, Jake sucks, Coley doesn’t know if it’s day or night. If this place is “the fan base” you can have it,
It was like getting a root canal. Every muscle in my body was tense until we went up by three scores…
After the third TD, it looks like CKS decided to let Auburn move the ball but keep everything in front of you and don’t allow the quick strike. That’s a good strategy with less than ten minutes left..but not as early as Kirby starts it.
But all’s well that ends well.
Besides, Auburn fans got all excited and thought they had Georgia on the ropes.
Sacking Nix on that last play was a hob nailed boot of sorts.
Amen held my breath all fourth quarter.
Kirby kills me. He gets way too conservative with a lead in the 4th Q.
Never a doubt!
Whip those corn dog smelling Acadians!
“Georgia: Has won 15 of the last 19 meetings. ”
Our offense sucks! LOL. But we beat Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida in the same year, and hopefully Ga Tech soon!
Did I mention our offense sucks?
BUT TONIGHT! GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly I’m a bit ticked at VPI — I wanted the Dawgs to be the first team to hand the NATS a shutout this year.
Fromm did lose the passing game by a considerable margin and we still won, which is the opposite of what I predicted. Well, he did have 3 TD passes so I guess not exactly the opposite.
44% Fromm to 40% Nix by my calculation. Wolfe’s drop in the 4th was a gut punch.
Check me if I’m wrong here, but Georgia won, right? I would suggest some of you accept the offense for what it is. You may actually enjoy winning games again.
If I truly believed there wasn’t that much talent on offense, maybe I could. But there are good WRs on the team, Fromm has put up excellent numbers when Chaney called the plays, and the offensive line is elite. Better play-calling and this could have hit the 2012 game levels of blowout, and then the defense isn’t as tired in the 4th and any hope the Barn had is long crushed out of them.
I agree. Winning in spite of the offensive coaching staff is not easy to enjoy.
The coaching staff isn’t going to change. Serious question. If you cannot enjoy watching Georgia football why do you watch and spend time reading and posting? This is supposed to be our recreation.
Many can’t…I don’t understand the angst.
Glad we got the W. I’m thrilled we’re 9-1 and champions of the East with a chance to play the nation’s current #1 in December. BUT!!!
Our last non-victory-formation drive was a three-and-out which featured:
1st down: Run up the middle for minimal gain
2nd down: Run up the middle for minimal gain
3rd down: pass play behind the line of scrimmage for no gain.
This, on a drive which all wisdom – conventional or otherwise – would dictate that you NEED to extend your drive to keep the opponent from having a chance to tie the game….
I just don’t get it.
Five of the nine 3 & outs were runs on 1st and 2nd down (for no more than 3 yards).
Fromm’s numbers were not pretty, but that kind of play calling is basically setting him up so the majority of his pass attempts were obvious pass plays.
Play action to make the defense pay for stacking the box, or to make those 2 yard runs worth it? Nah, we got none of that.
Yeah, but we’ve got the RPO right? Right???Cause they all believe that Jake is actually going to run the ball, right???
You do know the difference between read option and RPOs right?
Were you ok with the two runs to start the last drive of first half that gained 30 yards? Or were those bad play calls too?
That drive was indeed more successful than you think.
It forced Gus to burn all of his timeouts.
That made his offense one dimensional on his last drive..Nix would have to throw the ball and the Dawgs could lay their ears back and go after him…which they did.
While I’d prefer a little more productiveness on offense, it did work.
AUBURN WAS CHEATED! GIMME SOME TIME TO FIGURE OUT HOW!!
That was a fun game. Kudos to UGA. I thought AU might make it crazy there at the end, but was a classic nonetheless.
Thanks WarD, seems like the game is never over at your place. Good luck against the Gumps, though I am seriously sad that Tua got hurt so badly. Dislocated hip is what finally got Bo, though there were complications. Hope the kid can recover and earn some NFL money.
Yeah. What a terrible thing. It appears, unlike Bo, they were aware of the injury and recognized that everything seems to be fine. Regardless, he has already seemed to pay a heavy price for 2 years of D1.
I was looking forward to AU being the Rosetta Stone for CFP standings. Instead, Sabans desire to RUTS in order to improve the Eye Test (TM, roll tide) cost him a lot.
You are my favorite Auburn fan. Classy as always.
Actually seemed a very fairly reffed game. They had their moments..but compared to most important SEC games, this one was officiated well.
WITH THE EXCEPTION…of the clock keeper. When Georgia was trying to run clock late, it would stop seemingly before the whistle. Georgia ran three plays and less than ten seconds ticked off.
Home Cookin’ is Best Cookin’
WarD, your D is as good as billed. Can’t wait to see them stymie the Crimson Turds next week!
They don’t play next week.
Then I like their chances next week.
Stay classy WarD. Y’all scared the shit out of me last night. Good luck in the Iron Bowl …..
I went outside and turned the water hose on my neighbor’s orange cat.
Payback is a muthafuckah!
Post of the year
On talent alone, we’re going to win the next two games.
But we’re going to get our asses handed to us by LSU.
I’m drunk enough to enjoy this win. But I’m also already grossed out by how ugly it’s going to be in Atlanta. Both teams are great at stopping the run, but only one has a passing game to compensate. Burrow is going to light our asses up.
Well, if we keep the game close, Kirby will keep attacking on both sides of the ball. If we somehow get a lead, I’ll be worried. Kirby doesn’t seem to handle leads well sometimes.
I actually think our defense can give LSU some trouble.
Maybe. I’ll watch and see what happens. I figure Georgia will ugly it up, myself. Maybe they win and maybe they don’t, but at least they’ll get to play them.
Auburn held them to 23 in Baton Rouge. Hopefully, UGA doesn’t read your post and cancel the game.
Week1: we better change before notre dame and the meat of our schedule.
Notre Dame: great win but this won’t work in SEC play
South Carolina: see, we’re going 7-5 and Music City bowl; Florida will murder us
Kentucky: Florida and Auburn are definitely gonna murder us
Mizzou: This won’t work next week against Auburn.
Auburn: LSU is gonna kill us.
I can’t tell by half the posts on here if UGA just lost to Tech or clinched the east. Good grief. Last time I checked you can’t win the SEC if you don’t play.
I feel bad for the folks that can’t enjoy a win! If that’s a reflection of the way they live their lives it’s really sad and a disappointing life it must be. Yikes!!!
LSU’s defense is as problematic as our offense. I bet Vegas won’t favor the Tigers by more than a field goal.
Speaking of SEC championships (well, I was), I think we’re seeing the end of Bama dominance of the West. Started last year with a withering loss to Clemson, wins over a so so schedule this year and a disjointed loss to LSU. Saban seems to be coaching from a position of desperation. Yeah, they have injuries but something’s off with him. Anyway, I think the beginning of the end is nearer than we know.
Watch those fuckers turn on him like some of these idiots turn on Kirby.
Thank goodness for spell check or it would be:
Thank Ken-fucking-tucky for bourbon.
Gary Fucking Danielson is an asshole
I really enjoyed your post about Perl D. Cowdog. Thanks for the response.
I’ll scratch her ears for you this afternoon.
COLEY STINKS! HOW WE SPOSED TO BEAT LSU!! WHEN THEY PLAYED AWBERN THEY SCORED [checks notes] 23!!!! AND WE DONE ONLY SCORED 21!!!!
We’re 4 points better on offense against them than Ole Miss if we’re trotting out comparative scores that don’t mean that much too!
For those Georgia fans that were appalled at the three and outs at the end when Auburn had seized the momentum,…those three plays forced McGus to use up his time outs. This meant that after Georgia punted, Auburn’s offense would necessarily become one dimensional. The lack of time wouldn’t afford running plays. So Georgia’s defense was able to just go after Nix, and they did..sacking him on their final play.
It was a better strategy than it looked to be at the time. I too, was bewildered but it worked.
Now the pressure is off. The Offense can work on getting better and maybe pull off a huge win as an underdog against LSU.
I like trucks.
I don’t, uhh, I don’t keer fer Auburn
Camarda MVP today. Go Dawgs!
Camarda was definitely player of the game.
I’ve fretted about Camarda a bunch on here but he was stellar today and really set the tone for the game early keeping them pinned deep. Hope he gets a game ball.
I have to believe he’ll be the SEC special teams PotW
12 of the last 15 vs. AU. Not bad. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, things seemed hopeless as AU took a 4-5 game lead in the series. Now UGA leads 60-56 all-time.
By the way, IMO this was AU’s best shot to beat us for a few years. 13 of their 22 starters were seniors, including all of their best players (Davidson, Brown, etc.). They lose a TON after this year and, based on their recent recruiting, they aren’t replacing those starters with near the quality of underclassman as we are.
In other words, we should be in really good shape against them moving forward.
Hope so!…Against UF too!.
10 years? Is that all?
Actually “The Other Will” to be specific UGA had +2 yards of offense in the 4th quarter. Never once did UGA take advantage of the HUO. However Auburn scored in 63 seconds on their second score.
Defense line up with 4 down line and vanilla cover 2. Thank Goodness we actually got a few breaks and the zebras missed the FACEMASK or it could have been another OT.
For 3 quarters Kirby didn’t lose his composure. Then the anal glands tightened and it was a free for all. I am pleased that the Dawgs won but this just puts on hold the misery to come.
I am glad that the Dawgs get to the SECCG again. Perhaps a Kirby can pull a rabbit from his visor. My thoughts the talent level between Auburn and UGA was evident for 3 quarters.
I think the Dawgs can manage to show up half assed against aTm and the North Avenue Trade School but the talent level between LSU is about the same equivalent to UGA’s superiority over Auburn. That being said without turnovers and the flu bug hitting Baton Rouge my ideals and prospective of the season is in flames.
Welcome to the Orange Bowl fellow Dawgs.
Playoffs my ass, perhaps the computers had IT right pick 2 and be done with the whole season. Then the few bowls that made college football interesting might prevail. Just do away with the 7-6 or 6-7 matchups where you can’t give away tickets.
That leaves the Sugar, Rose, Cotton and Orange bowl ( you could add the Fiesta bowl ). To hell with corporate sponsors and the TV timeouts they rode in on.
Yes I am a get off my lawn guy. Seriously if you put any faith in the rest of those watered down bowls that are’s worth a crap, your probably a serious soccer fan to.
SERIOUSLY. More is less. Yes, they’ll get it wrong a few time but in reality could I see a raise of hands for the EMERALD NUT BOWL is your game to frickin’ watch
Tripe face boogie now boogie my sneakers away. . .
I am way too old for this type of finish! Jesus Christo! The offense is way too conservative trying to runout the. Clock. I thought their freshman quarterback would come up short.
Sent from my iPhone
“just puts on hold the misery to come.” Every team but one will experience that.
Didn’t get to watch the game today, had to work.
How’d it go.
Everything look good I presume?
That was a big win on the road.
Everything was perfect. We won and it was never in doubt. Nothing to do but enjoy the win. Anything veering from this narrative will be met with the usual post game commenter takedowns.
We did win, though, against AU in their house. We tried to go UF game on D in the 4th and keep everything in front of us. They ended up going through and around us. We also went three straight three and outs when we needed a first down like Grantham needs a team to punt on third down. But we won. I actually believe we might can hang with the better Tigers. We’ll just have to win from behind late because we’ll meltdown with a lead.
I think I would have to quit my job if it caused me to miss an UGA game. 😉
Hey Kirby, when you have your foot on the neck of blood rival like Auburn, you break their fucking neck. Going to a soft zone defense, way too early, almost cost us.
congrats dogs!!. now go take care of Texas AM and Tech. Mr Smart, Chad Morris on line 1.
More crow eaten internally. I am in Hawaii Abd was hiking so call me tickled.
no one on vacation in Hawaii needs to justify himself.
BTW, if one of those ladies in a prom dress walking around Waikiki chats you up…it’s not cuz you’re cute.
No sh*t Sherlock. You punished me for no faith. One day Kirby will learn to keep the foot on the pedal. Yes I didn’t think we would be able to do 3 quarters like that, but I did worry about a stifling defense shutting us down. Was it 9 3 & outs? But we won! Go Dawgs! Woof!
I’m surprised our record against Auburn In the last two decades isn’t getting the media attention that the bad times against Florida is getting. I’m loving it though! Whatever the criticisms are against our offense, it’s clear by now that our defense gives us a puncher’s chance against whatever team we play. The thing I don’t understand is that, with the talent we have on offense, why don’t we open things up more when we clearly can when we need to? Why does it have to be a scenario where the defense carries the day? Why not have both sides dominating?
Then again, maybe that’s asking a lot. Not many teams can do that. It just seems like we have the talent to do so but are not doing that.
aTm may be much more difficult than many seem to think. Over 300 yards rushing and over 500 total vs South Carolina today. I have no idea how good their D is but they have weapons all over that offense.
The Gamecocks were terrible on offense. It was 13-3 entering the 4th quarter.
Auburn never had the lead and was only tied for a limited part of the game in the first quarter. Piece of cake.
We beat a talented Auburn team on the road after they had a bye. That’s my comment.
Good safe and accurate eval!
Food for thought: if we do it again next year, we will have accomplished something Saban hasn’t.
“I gave credit to Auburn and told our guys to handle it the right way. I told them, ‘How ’bout them fucking Dawgs?!” That’s what I told them,” Smart said. “Excuse my language. I didn’t say anything about the SEC East because that wasn’t the goal coming in here. You know what I mean? The goal for us was to continue to get better, grow, play in a tough environment, but it really wasn’t about the SEC East. That’s a hell of an accomplishment and I’m proud of our guys, but that’s not what it’s about.”
The end of this game reminded me of the end of the ’82 game; Auburn needing a TD & us stopping them, then running out the last few seconds. Great win, now gig them Aggies next Sat’dy.
Anyone complaining, turn in your Dawg card. You know who you are.
This!!! Exactly…it’s incredible how angry some
Folks are after we just won the east for the 3rd straight year.
Can we have Mike Bono back?
Is he the little brother of Sonny or the U2 frontman?
