Yep. Anyone honest with themself about this team- the game played out fairly predictably. First game against a good QB exposed GA pass defense. Play calling on GA offense has been atrocious. You can says it’s player execution- but coaches play a part, with good design it’s easier to execute

A debacle for sure. But it’s not the end of the world. Maybe good comes of it. The last two years results, disappointing as they were, seemed to indicate kirbys plan was working, just falling a little short. Maybe this is the wake up call. Sometimes you have to be exposed.

Way I see it is we fired the coach with the best winning percentage in Georgia history to hire Kirby Smart to win national championships.
We have spent a lot more money, hired s bunch of analysts, built better facilities and yet we are less likely to win a national championship in 2020 than we were in 2017.
If he doesn’t win it in 2020 he would have failed at the reason he was hired and we should replace him with someone else.

This offense is about as bad as you could imagine 13 games into the season. Heads should roll and a few players need to be processed for their own good. They need to find a grad transfer to take over at QB. UGA still has a bright future under Kirby, but this offense needs to go in a different direction coaching and personnel wise. I think Kirby is smart enough to know that, and I trust him to do what it takes to be better next season.

Thank you, cpa. No one was crying when Kirby beat Oklahoma ahead of schedule, nearly beat Bama twice and now has taken us to three consecutive conference championship games. BTW, I don’t recall anyone here touting this roster to win anything after Tech.

5* is a meaningless designation, once a player gets into college. 5* represents potential. 5* should never be expected to translate into wins at any college level, especially not the SEC.

If you had told me last December we’d play the SECC and we’d be without our Hardeman, Ridley, Holloman, Nauta, and Cager plus Blaylock would miss 3 quarters and Pickens would miss a half, I’d have thought we had a slight chance if Swift was healthy and Fromm played well. With Swift obviously hampered too, just a tough deal being that no one else on offense has stepped up.

As a QB coach, James Coley has absolutely ruined Jake Fromm’s mechanics and confidence.
A good QB doesn’t suddenly become bad for no reason. It just doesn’t happen. That’s nothing to say about his terrible offensive scheme.
If Coley isn’t gone, if Kirby is too fucking stubborn to do what’s right, then he will face his first fan revolt.

This assumption relies on Jake Fromm being “good” to begin with. He was efficient, but that doesn’t make him good. Think about the QB’s we’ve had in the 2010’s. Where do you rank him? Murray is a clear #1. I think Hutson Mason is #2 Fromm is #3 a bit ahead of Eason and Lambert brings up the rear with Bauta never actually existing. What about QB’s in the past 20 years? David Greene was better. Shockley was better. Stafford was better. Maybe Joe Cox-like? That’s the level he occupies. Not as effective as Greene, Shockley, Stafford or Murray, probably behind Mason with Joe Cox and Eason, ahead of Lambert and Tereshinski and Bauta. He’s not a game-changer at the position. He doesn’t make anyone around him better. He can’t make anything happen with his legs. He can’t even read the defense and get them in the right play all the time.
I expected him to take a step forward this season, but he took two steps back. This season was worse than his freshman season. I think we have seen his ceiling, and it has nothing to do with Coley or the WR’s or whatever else excuse we want to make for him. He sucked for the second half of this season, and he would need to improve just to equal what he accomplished throwing it 9 times a game as a freshman. At this point, I’ve seen what Fromm has to offer, and it is time for someone else to come in and claim the job.
I hear he’s a hell of a fisherman, though.

So Fromm the last two years was the same as Fromm this year? The stats don’t back that up, nor does the eye test. I guess you think Burrow was the same QB last year as this year? Coaching was the difference in both, and Kirby needs to fix our end of it.

Coley was the QB coach in 2018 and 2019. The play-calls have nothing to do with his inaccuracy. He was missing reads and often not putting the ball where it needed to be. I’m not sure how to put the blame for bad throws on Coley, except that we prefer to blame a guy we have no emotional attachment to instead of the beloved QB. If there was another viable QB on the roster, Jake would have been benched at some point this year. He was playing that poorly for the past two months.
I guess if there is a QB whisperer out there, you might can get more out of Fromm’s talents, but I don’t think another new OC is the magic bean for Fromm. I think the offense needs an overhaul, and there should be zero thought as to what is best for Fromm as opposed to what is best for UGA going forward.

Kevin Butler talked about how Jay Johnson was, in reality, Fromm’s quarterback coach in 2017 and 2018 and that he believes that Fromm missed him badly this season.

I do not doubt you that Butler said that, but I do not see how it could be the case. Johnson was an analyst. NCAA rules prohibit analysts from actually coaching players. Kansas is facing an NCAA sanction for just that very thing.
If, however, Johnson was taking classes towards a graduate degree he could have been a GA and coached Fromm directly, but I never read that he was. Reporters called him an analyst.

Everyone gets it … you think Jake Fromm sucks. What the hell was Kirby supposed to do about it last year? There was no indicator last year Justin Fields was ready to be a starter as there was at Clemson with Trevor Lawrence. Fields was out of Athens immediately upon returning from New Orleans.
Tell all of us what Kirby should have done differently in December or January to have a QB competition.

If Fields stayed he would have been the same indecisive backup he was last year. Fields didn’t suddenly become a great QB. He was put in a system suited to his talents, one that may win him a Heisman and his team a championship, same as Burrows. Burrows “became great” because Coach O had the guts to change his system.

There was nothing for Kirby to do last season to keep Fields. Enough people were already in his ear about being gone before the season even ended. He quit. He didn’t want to compete for the job. That was his choice, and a good one for him, in my opinion.
What Kirby needed to do was go get another QB that could compete for the job. He got a project QB that won’t play a down for UGA in Dwan Mathis and a former walk-on in Bennett. He pushed Plumlee out, and even if he doesn’t “fit the offense” it doesn’t look like that offense is worth salvaging. It would have been better to keep Plumlee and change the offense. Kirby has Beck coming in, but he doesn’t appear to be an elite game-changer. He needs to get a grad transfer to have a legitimate competition at the position next season. He needs to find another elite QB and just hand him the reins. He needs to do anything except double down with what they did this year hoping Fromm turns into Joe Burrow.

For every Joe Burrow, there are 10 graduate transfer Greyson Lamberts that can’t play.

I’m talking the 2021 recruiting cycle. The 2020 cycle is already (practically) complete. Go all-in on somebody in that class. But get a grad transfer/immediately eligible transfer for next season to compete. There are guys out there. I’m sure there will be more in the next few weeks. If recruiting is what this staff does best, then do it. You have something to sell.

I am not a Kirby Smart fan. I recognize his strengths as a coach but he is an arrogant ass.
We hired him under the premise that he would win a national championship within 4 years.
We gave him everything he wanted, except playing Florida in Athens every even numbered year, because just winning a lot of games isn’t enough. Even the frigging legislature asked what it could do to win a national championship and then it did as Smart asked.
I know from the UGA fanbase unpleasantries of 2014 and 2015 the measure of a coach is nothing short of national championships, and it is a “pass/fail” grading scale. 2020 will be Smart’s 5th season and it will be a team totally of his players, culture and learning. If he does not deliver the national championship by year 5 he will have failed to do the thing he was hired to do.
He was not hired to win a lot of games and go to bowls we dismiss as “meaningless.” So what do we do with a coach who has failed to deliver the single thing he was hired to do?

I have said consistently that I’m not a “natty or bust” kind of guy. For me, the SEC championship has always been the North Star. We’ve played for 3 of those in 4 years and, of course, won 1. In the playoff era, that’s truly the only thing you can control. The other measure for me is how are we doing against the Big 4 (FU, Fech, the Barn, 10rc). We’re on a 9 game win streak dating back to the 2017 SEC championship game against them.
Am I disappointed we didn’t get it done yesterday? Yes. Am I disappointed in the way we lost? Hell yes.

It was a month ago and it was all second half and it was all QB runs by Plumlee. LSU last week allowed TAMU less than 3 yards per play.

Tip of the hat to LSU. Burrow was phenomenal. Defense played their ass off but the LSU offense is that good.
We needed a perfect game to win and unfortunately everything that could go wrong did and tonight was just the bill coming due for the offenses complete and utter failure over the season. Has Landers made a catch all year because I can remember at least 10 drops including 4 tonight. He, Simmons, coley and hankton should have to walk back. Unfortunately 2019 was a wasted

As bad as the offense was, the defense was handled as well. 500 yards, 37 points, 9 for 16 on 3rd down. Both sides of the ball got whipped.
Which is inexcusable for a roster like this.
Kirby needs to recognize what Dabo and Orgeron did – they can recruit like hell, and they need to attract quality assistants and let them operate.

The rumors are true: we’re a mediocre football program who’s benefitted for a few years from playing in an absolutely shitty Eastern division. Unless something drastic changes — like the entire offensive staff being replaced — it’ll be more of the same next season: barely winning a division title, only to be steamrolled by a vastly superior Western division opponent.
I like Jake Fromm, but he’s pretty clearly regressing. And James Coley makes Schotty look like a fucking guru. Unfortunately, at this point, all signs point to both of them being back. God, we’re going to suck next season.

Much of what Kirby says is gamesmanship with the opponent. He’s been intentionally vague on injuries (and suspensions) since he got here. Kirby’s not going to say Swift was ‘ready to go’ before the game and then say he was hurt afterward.
The fans want Kirby to always be honest but that’s not how he rolls. He got that from Saban.

It does appear the Bama defenses have.regressed significantly since Kirby. That’s a promising sign. Our D has been solid and played hard until they were worn out and knew it didn’t matter because the O is hopeless. Too much placed on one side of the ball.
The craziest part about our offense is we sold out everything for manball and then we become incapable of running the ball. CMR is a great man but he has to be smiling a little bit after last night.

Yeah I don’t think it’s that black & white. Burrow said he didn’t know jack freaking squat about LSU when he decided to transfer there. It does take time to figure things out and develop chemistry. So maybe a little man-ball while Joe got his legs wasn’t such a bad thing. What if they threw him to the sharks from day one, not sure that would have worked out so well.

Georgia is inept on offense. The Defense actually played pretty well.
Those early missed chances doomed a team that really had to have them to compete.
Bad hands, bad throws, missed blocks (I counted three times an untouched player flew in off of the left side to cause a sack or minus yards play).
Best skill players out, missed field goals..Good grief, it really was a perfect storm.
But I think LSU wins even if we had Cager, Pickens for the whole game, and a healthy Swift.
Sometimes you just get your ass kicked.

Personally I hope LSU wins the natty and Burrow wins the Heisman.

I saw those unblocked guys on the end also. The weird part was the unblocked guy had his hand in the dirt so he was obviously coming. There was one in particular where the entire line blocked to their right leaving the one guy on the left unblocked, and then we ran the ball around the outside to the left. I re-winded the DVR a couple of times and was gobsmacked. I don’t know how a play gets called where everyone on the line is doing something different than the QB and RB. The only thing I can figure is Fromm audibled, and only the RB heard him.

I spent the day with our young kids playing and putting the finishing touches on our Christmas decorations, along with learning more about a new hobby. When the score reached 17-3, my 6 year old – sensing the final outcome – asked if I’d play a board game with him. Off the TV went.
I had a bad feeling coming in, which is why I never bothered making a prediction beforehand.

It’s sad to me that a junior QB misses some throws so badly. Then the ones his does make get dropped. Dawgs are good enough on D and ST, but so far away on O. I don’t expect perfect or dominant performance, but competitive YES. We weren’t tonight. Far away …..

Fromm has regressed and that sucks. But Kinley is awful right now. He looks close to 400 lbs and cannot move. I have no idea why they played him as much this year as they did.

I had LSU scoring in the upper 30s to low 40s and uga upper teens to low 20s. Had our kicker made his kicks I would have been close. The dawgs never had a chance. While Coley isn’t responsible for the injuries to the wrs there is no excuse for the regression of our running game. There are plenty of teams with poor passing attacks that can still run some. The offensive staff needs to be shaken up.

Yeah, that’s the biggest thing to me. We have a lot of turnover at the WR position and the injuries were terrible so I can cut them some slack. However, this team regressed at running the ball and that’s really unforgivable.
We also regressed at the QB position. There’s nothing really positive to say about the offensive season. It was a complete failure.

KS needs an OC who understands the passing game. Coley does not. I don’t want to hear about the damn injuries. All teams have them this time of the season.
Some of those guys could be more productive if we had a legit receivers coach and OC. Re chart that game and tell me the completion % on those sideline passes. Coley never runs slates with mulitple receivers.
For damn sure Coley is no QB coach.

Our offense has been shit all season.
We fucked up by failing to keep Justin Fields.
Our OC choice was garbage.
We still have some kind of missing desire to stomp and blow people out like all the top teams always have. WTF?
Our shit offense was bound to crush us eventually. Now we got embarrassed (AGAIN) on a big stage and will likely limp into our bowl with players who don’t give a shit, juniors/seniors sitting out, and take another humiliating loss (or if we win, a meh performance).
I love so many things about CKS and where he has our program, but the fact we continue to have GAPING flaws in philosophy and offense is tremendously problematic.

Suggesting fellacio as a coaching technique is a thinking out of the box suggestion, but we did give Fields a chance last year to beat out Fromm both in spring practice, fall camp and in games. You saw the same production by Fields in games as I did. The other guy simply produced better results than Fields did, so I cannot quarrel with Fromm being the starter.
The alternative would be to do what your Martinez and Van Hallenger references criticize; favoring someone who is underproducing for reasons unrelated to performance.

It quickly became clear Georgia wasn’t going to run Swift inside and Georgia became easy to defend. When Zeus was in the game, the LBs focused on the inside game. When Herrien and Swift were in the game, the LBs focused on the flats. On third down, they rushed the passer. No one had to worry about spying or containing the QB.
Game was over when Blaylock got hurt. Georgia lost their last physical receiver and the DBs could man up on everyone else and use a safety to blitz. Georgia got some cheap yards late in each half when LSU dropped two safeties back, but it only served to burn clock.
Physical receivers are needed to beat man coverage, especially given the amount of contact defenders are allowed this year. Georgia’s inventory cleared out at the end of the season due in large part to the lack of player development and confidence in the offensive philosophy. The development gap with the new guys was never bridged.
The current philosophy, leadership, and personnel are not working at a championship level. Time to clear the decks and start over.

I’ll take a 2017 NC a million times over tonight. At least heart breakers are close. Tonight leaves me with so many questions/concerns. Starting with the QB and whether or not he comes back. Would the program even be better with him back? Can he get better with Coley or another OC? This program could suffer in offensive recruiting with offense like this.
I don’t know what to put it on but Fromm really took major steps back this year and at the same time he got a new OC and QB coach. If that isn’t a primary concern for Kirby Smart then I’m seriously concerned.

He got a new OC not a new QB coach. Coley coached the QBs last year. Chaney moved to tight ends (which I find ironic).
For all of those who thought Fromm was a better prospect than Davis Mills coming out of high school, go look at Mills’s stats at Stanford since Costello got hurt this year. They didn’t have a great team this year, but he has played well as a redshirt sophomore.

For years as a Dawgfan, I’ve had one overriding complaint about our passing game: our receivers can’t get open. They have to make tons of contested catches, and “great” teams just seem to have guys running open.
Our receivers were running wide open for much of the night tonight.
Simmons dropping that first pass was a harbinger.
Robinson dropping the first down moments later didn’t help.
Landers dropping a TD?
Bennet missing a wide open Landers on his only toss?
Fromm missing a wide open Blaylock?
These are not on Coley. I’m not a Coley fan, definitely not sold on him… but, having played football for many years, and watched for many more afterwards, I’m willing to say that I know enough about it to not blame him entirely for all of the foibles this offense experiences.
The runs haven’t looked good. I do know that. A lot of people on this page talk about “ManBall”… but that hasn’t really been the type of running we do. We don’t have a fullback. We don’t run the ISO. We don’t go hat-on-hat and just try to road-grade down the field.
I don’t understand how we didn’t feature the TEs in a game where our WRs were already hurt, then got more hurt, then didn’t come through when we threw to healthy guys. That might be a Coley issue. That might be a Fromm issue. I don’t know.
At any rate, not happy right now…
But not sure I take Bobo over Coley after his stint at CSU.

Score was pretty much in line with what I thought would happen. Georgia’s offense was already a huge question mark and then they suffered two injuries in the first half at the WR position.
Defense played well enough to win if the offense could do anything. It doesn’t matter how good George’s defense is if the offense is this inept. Getting that sorted out before next season is going to be a huge priority.

This team is a disaster. Kirby has led the offense into the wilderness. Where do you go from here. Nothing Kirby has done or said indicates he sees the real problems. He’s going to say injuries hurt, we missed some passes, made some bad throws, they have a great team, Burrow is a once in a lifetime passer, we have to get better, we have to run, block, and pass better, need better execution, focused on the next game, and on and on. Then he’s gonna double down on every thing he did this year. Strategy, recruiting, QB selection, coaching will all be the same.
Just saw a meme that showed a pay phone and said this is how UGA trash talked the last time they won a Natty. This fanbase is so frustrated because we thought for a minute that we had the coach to get us over the hump. This year has brought that hope down to the ground, smashed it with a sledgehammer, and set it on fire. Some of you should just let us whine and complain about that fact and the fact we just got embarrassed on the national stage again. You can all start the 2020 happy talk after we find a way to outscore a motivated opponent in a meaningless bowl game.

I was pretty disappointed in the D as well. LSU got 6.5 per play. Alabama allowed them 7, Auburn 5.8, Florida 6.9.
9 for 16 on 3rd down.
The defense made some plays, but they never made LSU’s offense uncomfortable or even really took anything away. They just did what they do.
