Their brand is taking hits left and right and now they’re resorting to copying successful brands, again.

    Offered without comment.

What’s funny about the ST responses is their assumption that Atlanta is a Georgia Tech town. There are ten times the number of Georgia fans in the Atlanta area. Outside of people that live on campus at GT, the same can probably be said for the city. Heck, midtown has more Dawg fans. In reality, they’re probably the #5 team in the ATL at best (Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Alabama; probably near even with Florida and Tennessee).

More FU and UT fans in ATL than GT fans. I see em and hear em all the time. Hardly ever see a GT fan.

I remember when Tom Wolfe’s book A Man in Full came out in the late 1990s, and I was all excited because a) I liked Wolfe as a writer and b) it was all about Atlanta. The book was a major disappointment for a number of reasons, but one of the biggest was that there was a whole subplot about Georgia Tech having a great football team and the whole city being fixated on it. Even when the O’Leary Jackets were having their brief run, that program was still second fiddle in the A. Wolfe did get a few things right about Atlanta, but he whiffed big time on that one.

So II am open to the notion I am missing something, but IMHO this is not trolling – you do not put recruits in front of it if it’s trolling – you find some funny way to roll it out with a wink, and the wink had better not be too subtle.

Whatever the original intent, for once the Stingtalk commenters are correct. This comes off as pathetic copy catting of a school with a way inferior program = weirdly desperate. I don’t care how many UGA fans are in Atlanta, UGA is in Athens. If you want to include Atlanta, you had better come at it from a We Run This State Georgia POV and slip Atlanta in. Using Waffle House in that context would have been actual trolling.

Can y’all help me out with something — what the heck is with the pink house and car in the picture ? Why it’s included in UGA, Atlanta , or any type of pitch material at all I can’t figure it out

    • That’s the infamous trap house in Atlanta. Trap is a genre of music that was basically started in Atlanta and in that house. I think the creators lived in that house and then bought it once they became famous. I don’t listen to trap but I think it’s been played in Sanford but you should probably Google/YouTube since I may be wrong on some of this. I do know that the house is actually painted that color…or was.

The poster is from outside the locker room at the SEC Championship game, and UGA took it when they left. Why they would want to show a memento of that night to anyone, especially recruits, is beyond me, but it’s not intended to copy GTU. If anything, it’s indicative of the fact that our coaches could not care less about GTU’s recruiting slogans.
