Gonna be a big day. Buckle up.

Considering we are only taking 23 this signing class, we will still land in the top 3 I’d guess.

I’ve seen the number 23 a lot in regards to the size of the class. Do you think that number takes into account the early departures? Could it possibly be higher, considering we’re still waiting for decisions from Swift and Fromm, among others?

Departures don’t make much of a difference. You can only take 25 in a signing period. You can take transfers after the signing period ends but that counts against the next year’s total. That is why we are down to 23 this year. We took Cager and Wolf last year after signing period was over so that counted against the 2020 class.

Kirby may still go after transfers after signing period during the offseason. Will just depend on what position needs filling.

Its also possible that some guys don’t declare (e.g. Swift), that would mean we would probably have to turn someone away since you are still hard capped at an 85 scholly limit.

Great to sign the #2 outside linebacker in the country. But that’s already the deepest position on the team.

When did Darnell Washington shrink 3 inches? He was listed as 6-8, now 6-5.

Carson Beck (4 star QB), but I’d love to see another QB or 2 sign. Our QB room has a lot of extra chairs right now.

  8. I’m excited about Justin Robinson. I do find it odd that he didn’t seem to have as much interest as you’d expect for a 6′-4″ four star WR. Or maybe he did but the only other contenders I saw listed were Nebraska and Florida.

Also, I hope Luke isn’t taking us back to the days of project three star OL. It’s just one guy but that plus having both OTs leave early is a tough start.

I sure am glad Beck is an EE! That is all.

While on this topic, does anyone expect our offensive philosophy to change, even in the slightest, next season? I guess is no, which will lead to a ton of empty spots in this years recruiting class. I clearly understand why a highly rated defensive player would want to play for Kirby and the Dawgs, but for the life of me I can not see why any highly rated offensive QB, WR, or TE would decide to come to Georgia. I fear that the 2019 offense will leave a last mark until drastic changes are made. Just my thoughts.

I think the same thing, then there’s Mecole going to the Pro Bowl.

2019 will be marketed as we need you to come in and be the star at WR to turn this around look at Mecole. 2020 if things don’t improve will create a problem.

This ^ I think a lot of kids just want to play for a specific team and also see the possibility of getting on the field as freshmen a bonus. Sure hope we get Darnell Washington he could fix our lack of TE play immediately.

The Lindberg kid from Texas (OT) said exactly this. While he really liked Pittman he was attracted to Georgia because he knew they would be losing two tackles this season so he felt like that gave him a good opportunity.

I suspect other kids look at it like this as well, and I imagine the coaches sell it like that.

We had a superb athlete at tight.end this year, Woerner, did you.ever see his high school tapes where he also played running back. You.could be the Gronk at Ga. And it wouldn’t matter because if they don’t throw u the ball and you.aren’t in the offensive scheme you will just be a blocker!!!!

Just read the Dawgnation profile on Sherman. Sounds like a young man I can root for. He’s upfront about football being an avenue to make his life, and his families lives, better. Apparently comes from a hard situation in Baltimore. Best of luck to him and all the new Dawgs!

  11. I’ll be paying attention to receivers and QB. I suspect much of the pressure to be on Coley to pull in the guys to make his offense better. If things don’t pan out on the recruiting front, that should be two strikes against him. I assume Kirby isn’t talking much about offense coaching group because they are locked in on recruiting and he doesn’t want to disrupt the flow.

I think we’ll have another very class assuming we hold on to Jones at OT and an excellent class if we can pick up Ringo, Burch and Washington. However, still hate seeing us sign only 2 of the top 25 in the State of GA. Really wanted Bigsby as our number 2 RB.

Well, as far as securing the recruits that were already committed, Kirby and Co. have had a great day. Still an outstanding OL class, with a couple more yet to sign.

But as far as picking up additional top talent, it’s been pretty disappointing so far. Arian Smith could be pretty special, if the plan is to use him like we used Mecole Hardman. But we’ve whiffed on a couple big names so far, including Burch to South Carolina. And Ringo and Washington no longer seem like the mortal locks they were a month-or-so ago.

I don’t follow recruiting at all except on signing dates. I am shocked that out of the whole state of Georgia Kirby only wanted 2 guys. Was this a case of not wanting these guys or were we just beat out by the other teams? What’s the use of having a great state football pool and not even fishing in it. This seems to leave the door open for our usual rivals to have a good time raiding the state. The other factor will be losing the GA high school coaches, if they get the feeling Kirby doesn’t think he can compete with their guys playing. Recruiting nationally is great but when Georgia kids come back and beat your butt it gets embarrassing.

    • Imo, it’s a combination of a few things. Clemson has just beaten on a few guys for a few years now. Auburn is always gonna get theirs. We missed on some LBs probably because we’re pretty stacked there.

Then there is a state champ with several D1 players (Marietta) and we don’t get one of them. Either the Marietta coaching staff is on the outs with Kirby or that was the best high school team money could buy. They did have to forfeit a season recently and I’d imagine many aren’t even from Georgia. This state’s high school football being so good is a double edged sword. A lot of families move here just to have their kids in better programs to get them more exposure, better coaching and better facilities. Many also grow up not giving a rats ass about the state schools and many also have parents that went to school elsewhere.

Look at the private school kids around Athens who go to the Big 10 or west coast. Some years there a lot of top rated Dawg fans and some years there aren’t. I think this year is a case of the latter and we’re stacked at some of those positions and I’m sure not living up to 2017 affected a couple of them.

This could still be a top 5 class to follow the last couple years but I agree that we have to work hard(er) on our own state.
