“We find Popeyes every state we go in.”

I can think of worse pre-game preparations.

It’s part of a family ritual for certain road games: While Travis is getting ready for the game, his mom  heads to Popeyes so she can buy him one of his favorites – either a chicken sandwich or chicken tenders. Then she brings him the food at his hotel the day before the game.

“We make a joke: that chicken gives him wings,” Donnetta Etienne said.

Only question unanswered:  spicy or mild?

  2. Spicy. Definitely spicy. Unfortunately, I don’t see Popeye’s helping him or Clemson.

The chicken sandwich is legit. There’s still like a 40 minute wait to get one at Popeyes locations here in the bay area.

    • Visiting family in Washington for CHRISTMAS, while out and about thursday, I noticed two employees (one in each lane, in a nice drizzle) taking orders about 75 feet from the drive thru windows, naturally I ask my lovely sister the obvious question, and she replied “8 till about 3, everyday cept sunday”…chicken sandwiches

Popeyes sucks. They’ve been trending down since the sandwich shortage hoax. They’ll never win anything big.

It seems weird to say this, and I’m not close to first to have this thought, but for a 2-time ACC Player of the Year and a National Championship ring, he sure is underrated.

Full confession – my wife is a Clemson grad, we have tix there too and split time ( I still can’t/don’t wear orange). TE has the fastest first step I’ve ever seen in person. Seeing live is a different experience. He is a spectacular running back.

    Also, I always go spicy

Watching the Peach Bowl, both LSU and Oklahoma improvise well when the initial reads are covered. QB and receivers roll to the sideline while the receiver running the initial out releases upfield. Great job extending the play and getting a completion.

Definitely something to work on next season.

  9. I think we can safely say once again 8 teams have no business in the national championship conversation. LSU looks unstoppable (like we didn’t know that already). Jalen Hurts looks like 2017 Jalen Hurts. Oklahoma looks completely outclassed on both sides of the ball.

Losing to lsu doesn’t hurt nearly as much now as it did at the time. These guys are unreal.

    Go Dawgs.

Coach O is a class act.

Likable, approachable to the media, candid, humorous, calm on the sideline.

Could not be more different than the Kirby Jumping Clown act on the sideline and the Saban Lite act in the press conference.

  12. Oklahoma is why a playoff expansion doesn’t need to happen, imo. I do believe the gap will widen and will coincide with recruiting. If you want your program to regularly compete, they better regularly be top 5 in recruiting. The top 5 in recruiting over the last few years will be the bulk of the cfp teams for the next few. Clemson will be a shoe in. OSU is close to that but face tougher competition. Bama/LSU winner will be in unless we get our shit together. Oklahoma and Georgia are on the fringe of threatening for an actual NC. Oregon could replace either if they continue recruiting the way they did this year.

Georgia is and has been recruiting right with Clemson, Bama and OSU so we’re running out of room for excuses. If we don’t even make the cfp in 2020, we’ll be 3 seasons removed and one appearance in 5 years. Sure, Saban and Dabo took a while but cfb is quickly changing, especially with recruiting and transfers. Kirby has to take advantage of what he has while he has it. He can still sell recruits on being close but for how long? At least Oklahoma is making the cfp. We definitely have a tougher road, which is why we have to stop choking and shooting ourselves in the foot. Don’t choke against USC and we’re still in the playoffs. Maybe to get embarrassed again but top recruits want a shot to compete in these games.

I guess the argument could be made that an 8 team playoff could help prevent a real monopoly but if it’s the same programs losing in the first round and getting blown out then maybe it makes it worse.

Elite recruiting and playoff appearances go hand in and hand and will continue to. Fail at one and eventually fail at both.

Anyway, I’ve always believed in defense and running the ball but how many of these playoff and NC games have been actually been about that? LSU is wrecking Oklahoma at a level I didn’t even imagine. Their offense has made defense and running the ball irrelevant. I expect OSU and Clemson to be the same. I’m not saying they no longer matter but I do think offense is everything now and hope Kirby is watching and having his mind blown.

In 2001 the Illini won the Big 10 but the BCS rules sent us to the Sugar Bowl instead of the Rose Bowl. We got to play LSU in what was basically a home game for them. Boo.

Time for the Kirby Failure Bowl.

The quarterback he whiffed on recruiting in his backyard versus the quarterback he ran off in favor of a hand-off machine.

  16. It’s early yet but Clemson/OSU is going like I expected. Clemson’s D has a few stars but I don’t believe they’re loaded and built for this.

  17. OSU/LSU would be interesting if for no other reason than to see if LSU can take advantage of Fields. He’s on thrown one int but he’s made several bad decisions throughout the year that LSU is capable of taking advantage of. On the flip side, OSU is probably good enough on D to at least slow LSU and good enough on offense to maybe match. That could be another historic NC matchup.

Justin Fields is looking good. That running game reminds me of the good ole days at UGA. Clemson looks outmatched thus far. Guess they could use some real teams to practice during the season.

Man I wish we had a quarterback that could make plays with his legs like that.

Fromm actually can make plays with his legs like that but has been told by coaches not to run because of lack of depth at QB.

        I disagree.

Fromm is not fast. He can pick up the occasional first down, but that’s it. Lawrence is a superior athlete and quarterback compared to Fromm.

It’s not even close. Fromm wouldn’t get playing time at Clemson.

Neither the hoped for meteor, anOSU nor Clemson have greatly impressed.
Clemson is surely suffering from having such a weak schedule. They just don’t look seasoned. (Offense is frustrating..sputters..looks familiar)
I would like to choke the TV announcers. Esp the Ohio State Rah-Rah motor mouth asshat. After listening to the excellent Todd Blackledge in the first game, these blabbermouths are annoying.. And the OSU fans are obnoxious. They make Bama fans look gracious and humble.
Well, Lawrence just scored on a long run…I was going to go to bed at the half but now I’ve got to stay up and see how this goes.

  22. I still think Fields is mistake prone and Clemson just proved it. Almost did earlier, too. Day even said they dumbed down the offense for him. Reminds me of Fromm and our O this year. Simple plays and routes that rely on WRs beating their guys and the QB making simple reads and making plays. Elite defenses with QB pressure and good WR coverage eat that up and force mistakes.

Pardon me, but I am royally pissed off. I hate Clemson. Almost as much as I hate Florida, more than I hate auburn. FUCK. I hope LSU and Burrow beat the shit out of those cocksuckers. (Sorry, i have to vent, not directed at anyone, sorry senator).

        • I figured as much. I’ve had a couple projects in SC, including the the Ravenal bridge in Charleston/Mount Pleasant, and have dealt with some pretentious Clemson PMs and engineers. Of course, I’ve worked with people from all our rivals at one point or another. Some of the Clemson folks are a different breed, though, depending on what part of the state you’re in. I feel for you. Lol

I think it’s likely better for UGA if LSU wins the Clemson-LSU matchup. Georgia only rarely goes up against LSU in recruiting but does recruit against Clemson all the time. AAlso, the thought of Clemson winning 3 national championships out of the last 4 actually makes me nauseous.

Don’t worry. LSU will pound “poor little Clemson”. I will enjoy hearing Dabo badmouth the SEC after LSU finishes with them.

Spicy for me, with the souped up mayo, hold the pickles please. I don’t even like chicken, but I now eat about two of those a week. Was 2 chicken sandwiches a year until they added this item to the menu. There isn’t a chicken sandwich close to this one at any fast food restaurant.
