Sure, we could wind up with the #1 class. But it could have been even more #1 than just #1. Because, Georgia.

Like when the kid who didn’t want to go to college told his dad: “Einstein didn’t graduate from college!” His dad responded: “well, just think what he could have accomplished if he HAD graduated from college!”.

A friend put a guy, who just mustered out after 4 yrs 11b, in touch with me. He’s got a wife and kid and has an interest in continuing his education but doesn’t have a clue how to start. I’m going to meet with him and go over his options and see if I can point him in the right direction.

Dangerously reading between the lines it looks like Tank wanted to be guaranteed playing time as a freshman and didn’t get that promise. Now we probably are going to sign the number one back in the nation instead of Tank. We really suck. (Sarcasm font)

Hell, Conor Riley is better than the bipolar Mike Griffin: who’s either the consummate company man (particularly when he’s wagging his finger at us about how awesome our AD is) or your typical hot take click-baiting machine. Therefore, I decline to read his stuff and, when he calls into the DN podcast, fast-forward around it.

Ugh…sure…it was pretty well known that Tank wanted to commit back in June but the staff had it’s eyes on Evans as RB#2 (Milton was always #1 priority for the class). Yeah, Tank played out his senior year and got a ratings boost, but I’ll trust Dell on who he wants. The Burch/Dextor situation does sting a bit, as apparently Burch indicated to all interested suitors that they were winning his recruitment leading up to ESD. Dextor was committed to the Gators all year and them actually winning sealed the deal there. But as far as DL goes, it seems this Jalen Carter kid we got is an absolute beast. Given the way the year went for the Dawgs with negative recruiting fodder, the staff really knocked it out of the park.

This article is akin to asking your ex-girlfriend why she broke up with you.

    Sadness, anger, etc. to follow.

Who cares where the guys go, I like the ones we got!

Well, I mean, could end up with the number one class isn’t the same thing as having the number one class. This article would probably seem more out of place if it were published the week after Georgia actually got there.

I dunno, I think DawgNation’s occasionally dark tone really fits in nicely with the overall Larry Munson aesthetic of the Georgia fan base.

Do the f@£king math ajc, we don’t have as many slots to fill. Hell, if we didn’t have at least a couple players leaving early for the nfl we wouldn’t be able to sign 20.

Sure, we have problems. Recruiting ain’t one of them.

What a tool bag. Exactly what I would expect from Dawg Nation. We didn’t miss on Tank either. We slow played him because we wanted Evans. Tank was getting more love from Auburn so he went ahead and committed there. Then we ended up getting Evans. How is that a miss?

The one that stings the most is Theo and his comments. That one is directly on the shoulders of the coaching staff/OC. Why would any kid go to a school where your are not going to be used? That has to change. Our TE position has become little more than another OL position. If we are not going to throw to them, we might as well put a big bruiser out there and just let him maul people.
As far as Tank, I have never heard that take from any previous recruits. They have always been very complimentary (at least in public) about how the coaching staff has always been very upfront with them. Even with that, it may be a mistake to prioritize Evans over Tank. Living in Texas, HS football gets a lot of attention. An acquaintance who is heavily tied into the HS football scene and UT recruiting told me way back in the spring to watch Evans recruitment. He stated that he was an unbelievable talent, but also a head case that may be more trouble than he is worth (ie Antonio Brown). His senior season in HS has certainly been an adventure (not playing early in the season (suspension?) and them missing the State Title game for violating team rules

(From Houston Chronicle-North Shore running back Zach Evans will not play in Saturday’s Class 6A Division I state championship game against Duncanville. A source indicated Evans violated team rules involving cell phone use as the reason for his departure from the team.
I hope it was just sour grapes with UT missing out on his recruitment, but so far his warnings are coming true

Coach tried to take away a grown man’s cell phone. I’d be pissed too. It’s a stupid policy. Not really sure what the coach thinks he’s accomplishing. Is he taking away laptops and tablets as well? That’s BS. He’ll be fine at UGA. They treat you like an adult in college.

I’m sure Bill Belichick allows cell phone usage in their team meetings with no consequences and I’m pretty sure those are really grown men. I don’t know but suspect it was something along those lines to warrant being sent home before the title game. Has to be a history or the culmination of other issues. Highly unlikely that it was just using a cell phone that got him bounced. By the way, how do you know the coach tried to take it away? He may have asked him to put it away and he refused?. The only facts that we do know is that he got sent home before the most important game of the year for the team when his team needed him the most. By the way North Shore won the game without him.

Kirby didn’t hesitate to dump Cox. If Evans doesn’t get his mind right, he’s expendable. For now I’ll give Evans and Kirby the benefit of the doubt.

And maybe Evans was on the phone with McGee or Kirby and didn’t want to hang up on em.

It wasn’t in a team meeting. It was right before curfew the night before the Championship game. North Shore HS HC has a policy where every player has to turn in their cell phones for the night before road games. I guess so they won’t stay up all night on their phones? It’s stupid. They have tablets, TV, LapTops, etc. I don’t get it but North Shore keeps winning so no one questions the coach’s methods.

Evans definitely handled the situation incorrectly. I’m sure this was caused by a culmination of events. He needs to mature for sure. He’s an adult now who should know how to act and who should not have to worry about handing over his cell phone to his coach like a fucking child. Not sure what Belichick has to do with anything but I’m pretty sure Belichick doesn’t confiscate his player’s cell phones the night before road games. Neither does Kirby.

We know lots of facts. If you follow recruiting, it’s been all over the place since it happened.

        • You may be sure Belichick treats highly paid professionals as he would 10th graders but I am not. Successful professional coaches treat adult professionals as they are. Tom Brady doesn’t need junior varsity rules to prepare himself.

Agree 100% on Theo. I know it’s almost a joke around here about using the TEs more, but this is the perfect example of what happens when we waste the TE talent we’ve had. I’m pretty surprised we’ve been able to get WRs, given our manball approach, but maybe that’s going to change.

The most impressive running back I saw all year is Demarkcus Bowman. He is tough and very fast. He signed with Clemmons and I thought we might have a half assed chance at him, no such luck.

Does that outlet even employ editors anymore? Is there even one copy of the Chicago Manual lying around the newsroom somewhere, maybe? As the esteemed Hugh McAlexander once scribbled in the margin beside an admittedly putrid paragraph of a paper I submitted to him at UGA long ago- “Bad, bad writing.”

  16. Eh. It’s a decent read once you get past the overly dramatic header. I do think the Bigsby and Burch recruitment takes are BS, though. Nothing I’ve ever read or heard lead me to believe Bigsby was a top target or anything other than an Auburn guy. Burch is a top player from SC and SC usually keeps them.

There are some embellishments but the article was was pretty dead on in their assessment of these guys and how we could use them or how we need them. I’ve seen worse from fans who expect every high school football player in Georgia to be UGA fans.

If in n0la, you need to check out The Bulldog Bar near Tulane/Loyola campus. Just had a couple of amber beers – nurse/bartender (Jeff) was in Athens a few years. Nice student hangout. Older LSU guy wished is luck. Magazine and Canal.

Jamie Newman, Wake Forest QB is going to transfer as a graduate. Wonder if he’s interested in wearing red, if Fromm decides to leave?

    • Yeah, I intimately thought it would be nice to have him but I imagine he’ll go where he’s almost assured a starting spot. I hope Fromm will announce immediately after the bowl so we can know where we’re at and make moves if needed.

The QB at VA is one of the most impressive that I have seen. Hes big 6-3 and weighs 215, mobile and quick as hell. Fla is a good tackling team and they could not get him on the ground. Mullen told the reporter at halftime they needed to get him on the ground but he did note that no one had been able to do that all year.

There is a lot of smoke around Evans. Reminds me of a former player that ended up at Arkansas State. CKS don’t need no more bad PR. I can understand Cook and internal discipline. I really don’t see a reason to have a loaded 9MM in the glove box. Do you ?
Clemson went after Koby Pryor, I know he’s a 3 star. It seems like our 5* tend to play more like well you tell me. The issue is clear UGA had 22-23 scholarships to give but if you ever got a true look at their recruiting board there was over 150 kids offered.
Kids, family, social media and press alone precludes visits by coaches and in reality you can blow UGA horn just so much up a kids ass.
If you were a TE would you sign at UGA. Really ? Saw where Hollifield was picked up by the Eagles. Panthers would not pick up his option for the practice squad. Hell his father told him it was a mistake to go to the show. With Swift’s injuries he could certainly improved his stock.
We will know more about the no shows for the Sugar in a couple of months because of CKS buddies voted for the Code of Silence law. Just possibly some of these kids were kindly asked to leave to open the door for more ‘crouting, helicopter rides and jet trips to the left coast and Canada.
I am 100% Dawg but there is a divide team wise. If the ball bounces CKS way he’ll be fine. If Bigsby and the Barn, Tennessee got a good QB from Georgia and LSU pulled Oconee County’s QB into their fold ( his Dad won a Super Bowl ) end up pushing the Dawgs out of the cushion they have had in the East for 3 years. I hope he is but Kirby might not look so Smart ( and I am pulling for him but these generic press conferences and shutting down players and coordinators, no news is wearin’ thin. )
We might have to rethink lrecruiting priorities especially if the Dawgs don’t make it hard core for the Rayburn County QB. Just saying having ties to the state of a Georgia might mean I’d be playing in the Sugar Bowl tomorrow night. Unless I had been asked to leave to open up another recruiting spot.
