Well, now.

Things just got mighty interesting around these here parts.

Which way does Kirby go?  Seems like a monumental hiring opportunity…

Make it a “Joe Brady” position and divide up ST responsibilities?

Sounds like Fountain took the same job at Arkansas. He either really likes Pittman or was nudge out.

I understand there’s an unemployed yankee over in StarkVegas.

The fact that he let Bobo go to USCe tells me not to get my hopes up for a offensive coach that is a game changer. (Don’t see a change in play caller/OC either)

He didn’t “let” Bobo or Fields go anywhere.

What’s wrong with the OC we have??? …..who you gonna GET?

Our current OC is not capable of taking us to the next level. If you are happy with SECe titles, then yep, nothing wrong with our current OC. With regard to who are we going to get, I don’t know. My point was that we aren’t going to make a change at OC. If we were, it would have happened already.

It wouldn’t have mattered who the OC was, we would have still had issues.

So it’s an unpaid player problem, not a paid coach problem?

Looks like Kirby’s on that motha, currently # 2 nationally recruiting…..with a possibility of finishing #1.

Good haul of WR and overall class (our biggest issue).

Looks like the recruits trust in him and his staff, his current players apparently do and so do I. He has earned that right with me.

That last game is one of the best coached and played games I have ever seen at UGA….especially when considering how many players we were down.

If Kirby is okay with Coley, I am too. If you don’t like his staff or Coley, you’re talking to the wrong fellow.

Yes, that pretty much sums up our offensive woes this season. WRs who can’t get any separation, get knocked off their routes and forced to the boundary, run the wrong routes and don’t catch the ball when it hits them in the hands were the root of our offensive problems this season. Fromm didn’t trust the receivers outside of Cager and then Pickens later in the season so the passing game wasn’t much of a threat. Opposing defenses could stack the box and take away the run and play man coverage without any fear of being burned deep.

I don’t love Coley but he was pretty limited in what he could call due to the players he had at WR. Your analysis that it was a player problem is spot on.

“current coach not capable of taking us to the next level” so THAT’S all we gotta do!…get a new coach, then we’ll be at the next level! Why did nobody think of this before!

You know, I hate unsubstantiated rumors. But are there any good unsubstantiated rumors about who Kirby might hire? Belicheck? Jeff Schultz in quality con-troll?

I think Pittman did Kirby a favor. This was the move, if any was going to be made, I expected. Fountain out or demoted to off-field staff, give Hartley special teams, and hire another offensive assistant. Now nothing has to be done with Fountain.

We are basically going to lose at least one S&C coach per year going forward. This is a good problem to have.

Not sure what to make of Fountain. Our STs were awful in 2016 under Beamer. Fountain came as an analyst in ‘17 and the STs became terrific. Last couple years with Fountain as ST coach were nothing special.

Kirby needs a good move here. It might be the difference between getting to the playoff or being a perpetual also-ran.

Special teams seems like a bit of a crapshoot to me. It’s rare that you see any teams who are consistently good in ST year after year. I think it’s almost as much about getting the veterans to buying into playing on the ST units as much as anything else, especially in the coverage and return parts. I guess some guys may be better than others at helping kickers, but the rest of ST’s, I’m just not sure how much of a difference a coach makes.

By S&P, Georgia finished 3rd, 20th and 1st in special teams the last three years. I’m guessing the 20th in 2018 was almost entirely due to Camarda’s inconsistency.

In other news, we now have a George, John, and Ringo on our team. Just need a Paul.

Also, we once had Bryan Jones.

  12. Odd to witness the Hogs canabilize the Dawgs this way. Given their current state vis-a-vis Georgia’s I can only believe that CKS is hep with the development. UGa has the resources to battle Jerry Jones, yes?

Kirby might not be In the mood to clean house but after this season I don’t think he’s going to pay a premium to keep many O staffers either.

Not a resource problem at all.
