Mark Bradley mails in another column.

The only thing surprising about his utterly predictable “the master recruiter needs to field a better offense next season or else be tagged as Just A Recruiter” piece is that he didn’t invoke Paul Johnson’s name.  Must be slipping.

Mark Bradley is still pissed-off that Georgia didn’t hire the guy he believes is a coaching genius, Sideshow Dan the Clown.

Dude is straight-up in love with Cousin Eddie.

Of course, Bradley ignores the fact that MuLLLen has never beaten Kirby, but why let facts get in the way of his fee-fees?

My mistake was hitting the link in hopes that someone signing his paychecks finally figured it out and fired him for it. Any chance we can get an “are you sure you want to actually support the ajc” warning box pop-up for future links to his work?

“whispers that Pittman was encouraged to move on”? Really? Dude’s just making up rumors out of whole cloth now.

What garbage. Sure thing, we decided to encourage him to move on and lucky for him all of a sudden a head coaching opportunity just happened to pop up. If he had taken a lateral move, then maybe you can make up a rumor like that. You’re talking about a guy that jumped 2 rungs on the coaching ladder to become a head coach at an SEC institution for a massive raise. Bradley is a clown.

  3. Pittman speculation aside (which was patently false according to a source inside BM), it pains me to agree with Bradley here. We can sign em. Can we develop them? Can KS leave the offense to the offensive guys? Critical year for that. The D and ST are stacked.

So what’s his point? That there’s technically an angle, if you look at it just right, for the perpetually disgruntled fan to take when complaining on message boards?

His writing style is just awful. Who the fuck is the “we” he talks about in every article he writes? There is no nuance or explanation to anything…just rumors and innuendo. There is a reason that Schultz moved on to the Athletic and Bradley is still at the AJC. Plug for the Athletic…spend the money!! It’s really good. Also, if you keep an eye out they have specials several times a year.

This offense crap is getting so old. Yes, the offense sucked last year but it’s so lazy to think that Kirby has an offense problem. We were 8th in YPP in 2018 and 12th in YPP in 2017. Two straight years of elite offensive production. We lost our OC and top 5 pass catchers, our QB lost his confidence and we fell off a clip, this crap happens.

If anything, this off-season should prove that Kirby is very comfortable acknowledging his weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball and has made wide-sweeping changes in response.

I didn’t read the linked article because I don’t give clicks to Mark Bradley or the AJC. But I understand what he said and the reasons behind him stirring things up. What I don’t understand how he still has a job. Limp dick no talent moron.

Fake news …. no support whatsoever for his “whispers Pittman was told to find a job elsewhere” Apparently, after all these years he still doesn’t possess enough sports acumen to produce a serious observation. So you get the expected shallow article. But AJC pays him whether he phones it in or not.

Bradley is definitely a talentless moron, but does anyone think he’s actually far off on this one? The entire article would’ve been better served to have been tightened into an introductory paragraph that is later backed by stats and/or analysis, but it is Bradley after all. Regardless, we’ll probably never see the competition from the rest of the East as pathetic as it was the past four years. Other than Saban, you’re hard pressed to find a defensive minded HC who has had national success (in the last 20 years at least). Blame players or coaching staff all you want, but the one constant from Dec 2015 to now is Kirby Smart. If Newman isn’t the answer this year, what’s to say Beck will be in 2021 as a sophomore? Or that Kirby is?

What’s far off is the dawg-grading: “2019 will be remembered for …. loss to south Carolina.” Sure, if that’s what you want to remember it for.

Personally, I remember it for beating our 4 biggest rivals (yet again) and playing in the Benz (yet again) and winning a new years six bowl. For once, I wish these dawg-graders could properly craft the demarcation line or the language of the rule (that seemingly exists) for when a program is too big for its britches to even be allowed to celebrate beating their 4 biggest rivals and Notre Dame in the same season. We’ve also gone 12-1 against those same 4 over the last 3 years.

But I guess we fall into some category of not being allowed to have fun with that. Sorry, but I’m not about to embrace sucking for a while just so the currently crazy amongst us can get back to enjoying what normal, rationale fans without psychosis thoroughly should enjoy. We may be still chasing that elusive title, but if I get to have my hobnailed boot firmly on the throat of Auburn, Florida and Tennessee while conducting said chase, I’ll party to that all day long.

      • I definitely understand your point… to an extent. My favorite thing in the entire world is beating the University of Florida, followed by beating Auburn, Tech, and Tennessee. However, I’m sure I’d be able to manage finding a spot to put winning a national championship. When Auburn and Alabama think back on their 2017 season who do you think remember it more fondly? Auburn winning the Iron Bowl? Absolutely one of their biggest goals of the year, any given year. Or Bama winning in early January? Because my money is own Bama. Again, I love beating the rivals, but other than Auburn (and UF this year) they’ve all sucked so, so, so, so much the last 3 years. Richt was pretty damn good against Auburn and Tech too ya know? Given, Tennessee was a push at times and Florida is a completely different story. But to ask a little more isn’t that crazy, in my opinion.

  15. I can’t tell you the last time I read AJC sports but from reading the comments, I’ll assume it’s a worse version of my idea that Georgia needs to get over the hump. Hehe

What hump? Hell, I don’t know. I guess the NC hump but we all know that you still need a break or two to win a NC. This program is so successful that it’s actually become NC or bust. There is nowhere else to go. I’ve even said that we need to at least get back to the playoffs but just getting there doesn’t mean a whole lot. Winning most of our games. Spending at the top. Recruiting at the top. I’ve already read and heard “it doesn’t mean anything without a title” from fans so of course modern day media is going to do one better. I 100% agree that whatever happens over these next couple seasons is on coaching.

  17. MB is spot on – not sure why our fellow UGA fans love not winning NC’s and making excuses. We should not spending literally tens of millions of dollars on football per year and getting #1 recruiting classes to stack up “divisional championships”.

Should Clempson have fired Dabo for his first 5-6 years?

      Like

      • This is everyone’s favorite argument when anyone says anything remotely negative about Kirby. Who on this thread has even hinted at suggesting he should be fired? Like Ryan, I made an earlier comment about how Kirby has come up short again. I know I don’t, and I doubt Ryan does either, want to fire Kirby. But to expect a championship sooner rather than later, especially given the talent, is incredibly reasonable. Would you consider his last two years a success? Cake walking through a pitiful east only to lose again to a better coached team? Can’t we just say that the head honcho deserves a little more blame than he’s gotten?

The idea that, just because we recruit well puts us up there as the #1 team to defeat, adds a little bit of stickiness to our schedule. As if that’s not enough, take a look at Vegas betting lines and put your money where you think we will come out after two games against the best in college football. I give the chance of defeat against any of the top teams at 50/50 unless ND is included again. It’s called competition and if any team expects winning it all just because we have the higher class ranking, you should feed that swill to the hogs.

          • I understand what you’re saying, but I’m not sure I agree. I think Kirby has put us at as less than 50% chance to win and that’s my point. The talent is there but the trophy isn’t. I love the guy, but after four years to say that he couldn’t improve (like some think) is ridiculous. Simply playing a waiting game (i.e. a 50/50 shot will eventually go our way), is naive I believe. If the talent is superior in Athens (as shown via recruiting rankings), then we don’t match up schematically or coaching or in game management or whatever it may be. Just asking from a little improvement out of the HC. That’s all and nothing more.

              • Not at all at this point of course. Pretty much everything I’ve stated above was a long version to say, “I’m cautiously optimistic and don’t completely understand why everyone else isn’t.” It’s not a shot at Kirby or anyone else on this thread. But if he continues down this path of losing heartbreaking, gut-wrenching games then Bradley’s point may just be correct one day (not after this year, or even next). That’s all I mean. Really. Again, I think Bradley is a moron. But I want to see a little more success than I have the past two years, especially given the talent.

Somewhat related, somewhat unrelated: I’m 23 years old Senator and I have no idea how so many on this blog like you or my old man or most of the readership have been able to deal with this for so long. It’s killing me, and I don’t even remember Donnan nor was I alive for most of Goff’s tenure. Any chance you could have a poll during next week’s playpen to see a sample size of your average reader’s age?

                • 23, eh? That explains the impatience. 😉

No offense, but when I listen to stuff like “how have you been able to deal with this for so long”, I can only shake my head. The athletic department hasn’t been especially managed well and Michael Adams had a knack for turning a mediocre situation into something even weaker. The idea that we average fans could change that has never been realistic.

Smart’s the sharpest person I’ve seen associated with Georgia football, but he’s only been a head coach for four years. I said when he was hired there would be a learning curve and guess what? There’s been a learning curve — and despite that, he still came within a busted coverage of winning a national championship in his second year.

I’m incredibly encouraged by his decision to hire Monken, not necessarily because it’s guaranteed to work, but because Smart had the presence of mind to realize he had to try something different. It would have been a lot easier to stay the course after another 12-win season and it wouldn’t have been out of character in Athens.

                  Patience, grasshopper.

                • Ha, fair enough. I acknowledge my impatience with Georgia football is one of the things I wish I could change about myself. But c’mon, it’s gotta weigh on you too. Every friend I’ve ever had who went to another big school in the Southeast has seen a championship in his lifetime. It’s brutal.

It’s reassuring to hear you mention CKS is the sharpest person you’ve seen associated with UGA AA, because obviously the one person above him on the totem pole isn’t. And I agree it’s nice to see him make an effort to change the offensive direction. Jury is still out on Monken, hell- the jury hasn’t even been selected yet, but I also think he has the experience and know-how to get the job done. One of my favorite hires he’s made (I think..).

In summary, I still the Kirby is the guy who will bring us a national championship. But I hope that national championship is sooner rather than later. I’ve never been to Miami and I’m keeping my calendar open for January 2021 but I just mean to say I’m proceeding with caution. But Bradley is still a moron.
