Another one of those recruiting stories

Don’t know all the details on this yet, but I expect the ending’s gonna be a little sad.

Either the kid is scamming, or had a scam pulled on him.  As he apparently had a legit offer from another school, I tend to think it’s the latter, and if that’s the case and he’s lost it, I hope they find whoever pulled that and expose them for being a shit heel.

  1. Serious question – Why would someone pull one over on him with a fake offer? Just pure shittiness? Trying to understand what anyone would get out of doing something like this.

I think he was quoted as saying that the coaches loved him and he loved the town. I just can’t see someone going to the trouble of paying for him to visit Oxford just to make him look bad. I don’t want to run the kid down further, but this smells like “I’ve been telling everyone for years that Ole Miss is after me and my only real offer is from directional U”.

      That’s a fair point.

That’s bizarre… if he had another D-1 offer, he must have believed that he had an offer from Ole Miss for some reason. Was he being recruited by the previous staff and possibly didn’t understand that their offers didn’t extend to the new staff? Or was he just trying to speak this into existence? I’d love to know more. If the kid is being sincere, then I really hope that it ends well and that he can still take advantage of that other offer.

  3. According to the stories I’ve read, the kid was sort of a backup plan for Ole Miss. He visited there last weekend, and the Lane Train informed him that he no longer had a committable offer to Ole Miss. The kid even was interviewed about it after the fact and told the reporter that that was the case.

Now, why the kid decided to say, “F**k it, I’m still going to announce I’m going there” is beyond me when he knows all that to be true — especially because we know nothing can shame Lane Kiffin.

Since Lane Kiffin is involved, nothing would surprise me when the whole story comes out.

I don’t know if he actually pretended to sign something or not. If he did, it wasn’t an LOI from Mississippi. The kid had to know he didn’t have anything official to sign from them, so I put the charade on him.

I’m not going to judge the kid. I think there are some mental health issues. Everybody should just move on. No use in embarrassing him further. I wish him the best of luck.
