Well, now.
I’ll take it, although home-and-home would be better.

UPDATE: This is an unmitigated bitch, though.
Not exactly top of the line.

UPDATE #2: I wonder who’s picking up this tab.
So are we cancelling San Jose State or moving it to another year?

17 of Georgia’s 42 victories over clemson are shutouts. Donuts. 0. No score.

I attended the most recent of those shutouts, and it was a mighty pleasant Saturday in the August heat up there…30-0.

Who chose to schedule San Jose State in the first place?
If Georgia was just recently handed their 2021 schedule and couldn’t do anything about it, I would agree with you. Swapping San Jose State with this game would be a pretty good way to handle that purely hypothetical scenario. Unfortunately, that hypothetical scenario isn’t reality.

It appears we have 6 games scheduled between now and 2033 with Clempson…odds on them all happening?

In the next 9 seasons, we have 2 games scheduled with Clempson. Odds of the 2021 game in Charlotte happening? Well that’s almost 100%. Odds of the 2024 game in Atlanta happening? Not quite as high but still pretty good.
The home & homes you were referring to start after the upcoming 9 season stretch. Odds on those 4 games happening? I have no idea. As I’ve stated, that’s a really long way off.

I’m 40-something and 10 years is a really long time, regardless of age.
And that’s before you even consider that the games might not even be played. We’ve had several matchups get cancelled in recent years. And the more time you have until the games are scheduled to occur, the greater the chance of them being cancelled.

How do you think it feels to 70 year olds? 🙂 This is still a plus because San Jose State doesn’t make the 2121 home schedule any better.

That’s exactly right. The home schedule sucks, but it was going to suck anyway. We are no worse off with the game in Charlotte than if we kept San Jose State. Charlotte is a nice place and we aren’t going to visit there very often. I would like it better if we were going to a campus like when we went to ND. But this is fine.

Two first-time underclassmen starters at QB versus two elite defenses. Should be quite the rock fight.

So two teams 60 miles apart will drive ~150 miles to play in an NFL stadium and give up either 6k or 17k seats. Makes perfect sense.
I’m glad they’re playing, but it should be home and home, like it was for years.

It’s the only way a last minute matchup would work and everyone gets their share. We’re still doing a home and home and this game won’t be in Atlanta. I’m excited for it and will definitely make the trip.
I commend both programs for saying that they couldn’t meet soon enough and making this happen. We’re now looking at back to back seasons of the possibility of playing playoff programs on multiple occasions within a single season. That’s clearly what we’re hoping for. It’s game changing, imo. The UGA vs CU and UGA vs UA matchup possibilities are numerous over the next 2 seasons. Of course, c so are there possibilities for disappointment. “Let’s play Bammer and Clemson twice a season”. Kirby is clearly challenging this program!

Either Clemson will end up in the SEC or these programs will spearhead a new super conference and the rich will get richer. Again, look at the top 5 in recruiting over the last few years and there are many comparisons to be made. Of course, we’ve got to figure out a way to win a NC or two. Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, OSU, Oregon, Oklahoma would be who I’d start with. Make it an 8 or 10 program conference and have them as one division or do East/West. That’s my theory that I just spitballed. Lol
Maybe Clemson doesn’t join and there won’t be a super conference but the top 5 in recruiting will continue to have a stranglehold on cfb for the foreseeable future.

Why would Clemson want change other than SEC $$$. They are winning now with an easier path to the playoff than being in the SEC. Charlotte if you look at distance should favor Clemson. Granted we know how UGA travels.
Plus they’re getting money to play these kickoff games when they can’t sell out their home field after a national title. They’ll make far more going to Charlotte than playing at home? If they move to the SEC this is another home game that they can’t get cash from whoever sponsors this neutral site game and Mickey Mouse.
It is perfectly logical to take the easy path and market yourself for these neutral site games when you can’t sell out your home field.

Clemson is apparently doing fine with the money it gets now. Question is whether Clemson thinks the additional money would be worth playing UGA. Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Auburn, Oregon every year, or it prefers the easiest path to the ersatz playoff.

UF would be at home if it weren’t in Jax every year. We should have worked with Tech the moment the Auburn switch happened to get them on the other rotation (especially since they were playing Clemson, Miami, and us at home every other year).

You mean like the previous 75 years? Yeah, Jacksonville is definitely the cause of all the scheduling problems.

Oh, I didn’t mean to imply that we get rid of Jax. I am very much in favor of keeping it neutral site as that is part of the rivalry.

Jax isn’t a neutral site game. It’s an away game every year that puts the Dawgs in situations just like this—a 2012 home schedule that sucks.

I’ve always felt the atmosphere favors Georgia, regardless of the numbers. Even in the dark days. UF’s people are like Dodgers fans, and spend most of the third quarter getting back to their seats, if they get back at all (especially between the twenties). Our fans who make it down there are the best of the best red and black SOBs. Their people sit and watch, our people stand and holler.

Right on chuck, Mayor may be the only UGA fan I have ever met who doesn’t get it. If you don’t like it, just say so, everyone has a right to their opinion. But to say we are disadvantaged in any way is just beyond stupid. Please show me how, just one person come up with a reason.

Yea, read my mind. If you want home and home, theres tons of good arguments. But UF’s only advantage is a 2 hr bus ride vs 6. Everything else is equal or often we buy more tix.

I’ve compared the “donation” scam to both timeshares and NFL personal seat licenses but I think I’m being unfair to those two. At least with those you can theoretically sell them to someone for some small amount and get something back. You can’t do diddly poo with worthless Bulldog Club points.

Now that we’re doing this, I wish we hadn’t scheduled the Virginia game now. It’ll be two six game home schedules in a row. I’d prefer the neutral site games be scheduled for the years there are four home SEC games. This year we’re stuck with 3 conference games (with one being Vandy), and 3 out of conference cupcakes.

Don’t we play CU at MB in 2024? If that is the case, would have been nice for this with a little forethought to have become home and home 2021 and 2024. I can only imagine the penalty for canceling the 2024 date at MB if we had pressed for that now.

A side thing. Based on our future OOC games and when they’re set for, and based on the fact that these neutral site kickoff games tend to only be week 1, after Clemson in 2024, we likely won’t play in another neutral site kickoff game until 2034 at the earliest. We have week 1 P5 home and home series scheduled every year from 2025 through 2033.
Of course, if the money’s right, we might cancel one or more of them far enough out.

Short and sweet. If UGA is going to schedule games like this, the UGA-FL game should be home and home. Make it happen Kirby.

The real winner here is San Jose Star which picks up a cool $1.8 Mil (without deductions for team air travel, hotel rooms, food, etc.) and avoids getting the sit beat out of them on national. TV. Plus, now they can schedule an FCS team to come to San Jose for a home game and make money on the gate and concessions. If I’m the San Jose HC and AD I’m jubilant!
