Musical palate cleanser, coronavirus blues edition

You’ve probably heard about John Prine and Jackson Browne already.  Here’s another name I came across yesterday.

This isn’t a Schlesinger song, but it’s a cover FoW did of a Ray Davies song that seems appropriate for the moment.

Prine is said to be improving. I hadn’t heard that Browne is sick.

Schlesinger wrote the theme song for Tom Hanks’ “That Thing You Do.” The sing nailed 1964 perfectly, I thought.

Here’s hoping all three of them recover completely.

Sad to hear. Covered them a few times while at MTV. My personal fave FoW track:

One of my favorite bands (good call on Red Dragon Tattoo), and Schlesinger is a supremely talented songwriter beyond FoW. Mark mentioned That Thing You Do! being his composition (his being picked from dozens of other submissions), and AS has written for tons of other movies and TV shows, won Emmys and a Grammy, and may have been nominated for an Oscar.

He has others band projects, and if you like power pop then I recommend Tinted Windows, which is him, the middle Hanso brother on vocals, James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) on guitar, and Bun. E Carlos on drums.

Damn Senator, this news hurts but thanks for telling me, and I hope he pulls through. Glad to hear Prine may be recovering. This prayer list is going to get too long to get specific soon, thinking globally.

Odd coincidence that I had a FoW playlist on Spotify going for the last few days, and had been thinking about him and Chris as songwriters a bunch lately. Bad year so far for me – N Peart, Bill Reiflin, two of my favorite drummers, both already lost battles with cancer.

Y’all take care of yourselves and each other!

    Wel crap.

Very sad and Godspeed to a recovery. According to this from Variety (posted about 10 mins before your post) with quotes from his longtime attorney, he is heavily sedated but not in a medically induced coma.

    sigh …
