Your Daily Gator is on lather, rinse and repeat.

Maybe it’s just my admittedly biased perception, but a theme appears to be emerging over at Swamp247.

The first response manages to outdo that.

I’m not shocked that he’s not shocked.

By the way, for those of you possessed with some irrational concern that my Daily Gator posts are somehow tempting fate, how are these message board threads not doing the same thing?  Can karma cancel itself out?  Asking for a friend…

  1. Just like we couldn’t accept that a new sheriff was in town when the OBS showed up, they can’t accept that Kirby has established that same mentality.

Other than the talk of Kirby on the hot seat, their comments aren’t absurd. Newman could easily be a bust and we could easily lose 3, including to the gators. I don’t like it but you can’t say it isn’t true

    • Is the offense going to be worse in 2020 than it was in 2019, when Georgia lost twice?

I have no idea. Do you?

The new Qb, play caller and lack of proven WRs beyond Pickens has to be a legit concern. RB is largely unproven relative to how we have entered the prior 5-6 years. We do play at Alabama early in the season

Yeah we lost 2 last season. We also held on at the end on more than a couple. A few bounces the other way and maybe we win SC but drop 2-3 others.

I’m kind of surprised you seem so confident that 2 losses is the floor for this team. I hope it is but I’m not willing to declare that in May after no spring practice

        • Monken is a massive upgrade over Coley, so I’m less concerned about the offense than you seem to be.

We agree on Monken being an upgrade. But let’s be honest, you or I would probably have been an upgrade over Coley. My concern is the lack of spring practice, potentially modified/delayed fall camp etc and therefore our ability to get the benefit of the upgrade from coley. If we think Monken can just show up and magically improve things I think we are mistaken

            • I hear you, but every school is going to be dealing with preparation issues, to one degree or another.

I don’t think what Monken does will be the result of magic, either. It’ll be the result of two decades of experience running offenses. Something you and I lack. 😉

I would also say Chaney was an upgrade over Schotty. The question I think that needs to be answered is if the Offensive Roster of 2020 is better than 2016.

I’m sorry but this is pure speculation, there is no way to know if monken is an upgrade until we actually play some football and anyone who doesn’t think Newman could be a bust is chugging red and black cool aid. I hope monken and Newman are spectacular but the projections of Newman as a first rounder and Heisman contender are premature at best and potentially completely unfounded. That being said even with our Downs syndrome offense last year we still beat the Gators and by more than the 7 point differential would suggest and I do not see the Gators closing the talent gap on the roster or coaching staff anytime soon.

            • PURE speculation? How can it be pure speculation? Monken has an incredible track record as a college play caller. Coley sucked terribly when he got a chance to do the same. There’s a historical track record for both coaches. I think that’s what he’s basing his opinion on. In other words, it’s not pure speculation if you use historical data to make an assessment.

You should use better descriptors fr our offense than you did. That is no better than using retarded. .

Typical Handbags, stuck in the past. They assume every question about their team (rebuilding their D? Mediocre running game? Lost their best WR? Everyone has a year of Trask on film to break down? Recruiting at a lower level than elite teams? MuLLLen can’t beat Kirby?) will be answered in the best possible way. Every question about UGA (OL replacing starters with talented depth? Newman? Monken? The higher level talent we continue to sign? Is our returning, deep, talented D really that good? Is Kirby really that good?) will be answered in the worst possible way.

FTMFs. Spurrier isn’t walking through that door. Tebow isn’t walking through thst door. This feels like the early 90s on reverse. Took a while for a lot of us to realize the 70s and 80s were over. Some of the older Handbags seem to get it. The ones who think football started in 1990 will figure it out, eventually. Karma seems to be on the side of the team with the most talent, depth, and experience, in my experience.

  4. Tempting fate? You mean like your USC cannon shot posts?

    • You’re right.

I’ve kept this story to myself, for obvious reasons, but I can now reveal that the day after the SC loss, Kirby called me to chew my ass out over posting that. Totally blamed me for the loss, which I thought was a bit unfair, but, what the hell, he needed to vent.

This tempting fate shit is really stupid, in other words.

Karma or fate is going to kick Georgia in the nuts for all eyernity regardless of anything we do, cuz we’re cursed, might as well stick our thumb in their eye if it’s going to happen anyway.

I’m not ready to anoint Newman as the second coming of Christ. He had one great receiver that made some great plays on the ball. I hope Kirby is true to his word and lets the QBs really compete for the position. Newman did not do well against their best competition, I hope I am wrong but am just not sure that he is that great.

Newman’s Wake Forest surrounding talent didn’t play as well against ACC top competition as UGA’s surrounding talent would have, either.
Of all the transfer QBs available Newman is the guy Smart wanted. There must have been a reason for that.

I also trust a diverse panel including Herbstreit and Richt about one thing – QB play – and they both are very bullish about Newman.

I’ve been watching replays of Newman. I thought he played well, even in games like the blowout by clemmons. There were plenty of times he seemed to be Wake’s entire offense. He really suffered from the lack of talent around him. And I thought WE had a lot of dropped passes until seeing Wake!

Then again, there were people saying that Fields sucked. But if our HC is so stubborn that he won’t adjust the offense to take advantage of Newman’s obvious talents, we can start scaling back on any natty thoughts in Kirby’s future and settle for bushel loads of division titles. Having said that, I think we’re in pretty good hands with Monken, Luke and Faulkner. I think we’re going to see some good changes on O.

I, for one, enjoy the Daily Gator posts. I thought fu had a nightmarish off season last year. But yesterday’s news that 4-star OT Walker left fu gives me hope this off season could be even worse.

What ever gets posted on the road kill blog is on those ass wipes, history/experience repeats itself more than not….”Hello Newman” has a ton of on field reps, UGA’s OC has a ton of on field reps, UGA’s O-line coach has a ton of on field reps that will play well in preparation to this year, hopefully UGA’s HC has an immediate plan of attack towards 2020(?) practice sessions that will shape this years team focus, mental approach, day in day out…the talent will rise, the prep says who you are….#FTMF

Newman may not be all that. The offense doesn’t have spring training for reps. We lost two first round tackles. Yet I still can’t imagine this offense being as bad as last season’s offense. I think any poster here could call plays at least as good (bad?) as last season. We will out-talent 11 out of 12 teams on our schedule, and the 12th is probably even.

It’s a very low bar for Monken to cross.
