Musical palate cleanser, one of the greats is gone edition

Well, shit.

Boy, has Macon, Georgia punched above its weight.

So many iconic tunes to choose from… so I’ll choose this one.

RIP, my man.

Seinfeld had the “Summer of George”…

We have the “Month of Munson”.

In recent weeks the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network has dug into the archives to some of the great Georgia football games available for the public. The network began airing them last month with a number of recent games from the Kirby Smart Era with Scott Howard.

Now it’s time to dig deep and shift into some of the games from the Larry Munson era, starting with this Saturday’s rebroadcast of the 1991 upset of the Clemson Tigers to kick off the Month of Munson on WSB.

All of these games will start at 3:05 on Saturdays. You can hear them on 95.5 WSB and the WSB Radio App. The Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network is also making all of its rebroadcast available on-demand at Georgiadogs.com.

In addition to the Munson call, former Georgia quarterback Eric Zeier will be providing insight and commentary on the game. Zeier came off the bench against Clemson to lead the Bulldogs to an upset victory before embarking on a stellar Georgia career.

Below you can find the full month of Munson schedule for the next five weeks.

  • 1991 vs Clemson                           5/9
  • 1987 vs UK                                      5/16
  • 1992 vs. Ga Tech                           5/23
  • 1987 vs Florida                              5/30
  • 1992 vs Auburn                             6/6

Skin in the game

Comment from someone without a financial stake in a 2020 D-1 football season:

NCAA President Mark Emmert said Friday night he does not think sports can return at schools operating in an online-only teaching environment because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

In Division I, he said, “all of the commissioners and every president that I’ve talked to is in clear agreement: If you don’t have students on campus, you don’t have student-athletes on campus.

“That doesn’t mean it has to be up and running in the full normal model, but you’ve got to treat the health and well-being of the athletes at least as much as the regular students. So if a school doesn’t reopen, then they’re not going to be playing sports. It’s really that simple.”

All of the commissioners?  Not so fast, bacon breath.

They playin’.  Come hell or high water.  Or whatever message they have to trample over in their haste to get Mickey’s coin.  They playin’.

Alex, I’ll take “No effin’ way” for $200.

Why even bother to ask this?

Boom’s busts

Via Josh Kendall ($$) come these two factual tidbits:

  • “Florida went through five starting quarterbacks during Muschamp’s four years there. Last season, South Carolina sophomore Ryan Hilinski became the fifth player to start for Muschamp at the position.”
  • Bobo will be the fifth play caller in Muschamp’s nine seasons as a head coach, and Kurt Roper was hired twice, once at Florida and again at South Carolina.”

Agent Muschamp sure has worked with some considerate ADs in his career.
