Seinfeld had the “Summer of George”…

We have the “Month of Munson”.

In recent weeks the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network has dug into the archives to some of the great Georgia football games available for the public. The network began airing them last month with a number of recent games from the Kirby Smart Era with Scott Howard.

Now it’s time to dig deep and shift into some of the games from the Larry Munson era, starting with this Saturday’s rebroadcast of the 1991 upset of the Clemson Tigers to kick off the Month of Munson on WSB.

All of these games will start at 3:05 on Saturdays. You can hear them on 95.5 WSB and the WSB Radio App. The Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network is also making all of its rebroadcast available on-demand at Georgiadogs.com.

In addition to the Munson call, former Georgia quarterback Eric Zeier will be providing insight and commentary on the game. Zeier came off the bench against Clemson to lead the Bulldogs to an upset victory before embarking on a stellar Georgia career.

Below you can find the full month of Munson schedule for the next five weeks.

  • 1991 vs Clemson                           5/9
  • 1987 vs UK                                      5/16
  • 1992 vs. Ga Tech                           5/23
  • 1987 vs Florida                              5/30
  • 1992 vs Auburn                             6/6

Does anyone know if there is a tape of Ed Thilenius’ call of the 65 Flea Flicker game with Bama? That would be a grand one to hear. Dooley’s first great triumph.

I believe I heard snippets before so I think it exists, but it’s been a long time.

‘91 Clemson was probably my favorite game as a student. I went to Clemson the year before where they beat our ass and their fans were particularly obnoxious. We returned the favor in Athens. They came in ranked number 6 and were extremely confident. We sent them and their mouthy fans home with their tails between their legs.

And we followed it up 2 weeks later with a win in Ann Arbor over Michigan. Nobody ever talks about that.

I talk about it Michigan was led by all American Bill Yearby and they were the defending Big Ten Champs. Si did a story about the game and I believe they interviewed Preston Ridelhuber. They asked him if he had ever played in such a big stadium. He replied, “well suh, we have played in big stadiums befoa. We played in the Sun Bowl last year”. Michigan wound up not being that great but it was a big win. Too bad injuries ruined that season for us.

Awesome. Wish they did this all the time. I could listen to whole seasons of Munson-called games without ever growing tired of them.

Love it, and I remember all those games. Interesting that 3 of ’em were Goff-coached teams – he was SO close at times. And SO far away at others

That Zeier TD drive against Clemson right before the half was everything. I just knew we would go conservative and kill the clock and escape to halftime to regroup. It was thrilling to see EZ immediately chucking it downfield with such accuracy and authority of the no-huddle.
