Skin in the game

Comment from someone without a financial stake in a 2020 D-1 football season:

NCAA President Mark Emmert said Friday night he does not think sports can return at schools operating in an online-only teaching environment because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

In Division I, he said, “all of the commissioners and every president that I’ve talked to is in clear agreement: If you don’t have students on campus, you don’t have student-athletes on campus.

“That doesn’t mean it has to be up and running in the full normal model, but you’ve got to treat the health and well-being of the athletes at least as much as the regular students. So if a school doesn’t reopen, then they’re not going to be playing sports. It’s really that simple.”

All of the commissioners?  Not so fast, bacon breath.

They playin’.  Come hell or high water.  Or whatever message they have to trample over in their haste to get Mickey’s coin.  They playin’.

The Athletic Directors will lobby their universities to allow a small number of students to attend in person classes on campus so they can claim that students are back.

Some of the players on certain teams don’t attend in-person classes anyhow. Shit man, just make it up as you go along and call it college entertainment. That worked for the WWE.
    SMH.

Senator, your opinion please. IIRC, Michael (I never met a dollar I didn’t want) Adams was a contender for president when Emmert was chosen. Adams, from his first day in office, would or would not have done or be doing a better job? Thanks.

At least there is progress in their mindset when the top medical guy calls for testing and tracing to dramatically improve before cfb can happen. It’s the only key to having cfb, no matter your political views. The virus doesn’t give a shit and keeps on keeping on as long as we keep furnishing the media for it to live – more humans not distancing and covering up.

You are so correct, Cojones. If the season starts and the infections rebound to a higher level that could risk truncating not only this season but next season, as well.

I know this is not a college basketball forum, but I will point out that the NCAA mens basketball tournament generates over $850 million to the NCAA to distribute to members. The NCAA had underinsured the event so it only collected $250 million instead. Taking risks this fall that would impair the 2020-2021 college basketball season and 2021 tournament will create a devastating financial blow to college sports.

I love my Georgia Bulldogs. If I didn’t I wouldn’t spend time on this board, but I want college sports to return at a time when the risk of creating a worse situation is reasonably low..

I think if they try to have sports without students on campus it will be the death knell for college sports (or amateurism) as we know it. Your studs, especially the upperclassmen will say FU, I’m going to prepare for the pros, and your stud underclassmen will say FU, if you want me to play, you better pay me.
