Your Daily Gator is baffled.

Baffled, I tells ‘ya.

Did they have third-and-Grantham in the ACC?  Asking for a friend…

*************************************************************************

UPDATE:  You know, I had to go back and look.  Here’s how Georgia’s offense has fared on third down every time it’s faced a Grantham-coordinated defense since he left Athens:

  • 2019:  12-18
  • 2018:  8-14
  • 2017:  5-11
  • 2014:  12-18

Collectively, that’s 37-61, good for a 60.7% conversion rate.  That rate would have led the nation in any of those seasons.  Newman and Monken have some big shoes to fill, but I have faith.  In Grantham, that is.

  1. I guess these Handbags don’t understand that a team with a Heisman candidate is typically in the playoff discussion. No one believes they are a legitimate contender.

On the topic at hand, I don’t think any right-thinking Georgia fan believes Newman is a Heisman candidate because he isn’t going to throw it enough to build the stats.

    • As the college football world gets closer to reality 2020 (?), the scheduled game with the bammers looms larger, should UGA leave town with a “W”, that just might put “Hello Newman” in the early conversation, some where in that game, he’ll have a moment or three…if UGA continues collecting “W’s” during the season, he’ll be there at the end..no matter the path FU travels down…#FTMF

I dunno. How much did Cam Newton throw it?

      • $Cam had 4,000 yards of total offense in 2010. 2,600 passing and 1,400 rushing … sorry but I doubt Jamie Newman is likely to have 4,000+ yards of total offense.

Exactly. Cam had to put those type of numbers up for AU to be successful. Newman just needs to be efficient getting the ball to all of the weapons at his disposal.

I think he’s implying that if Kirby didn’t allow Jake to sling it up and down the field, then it’s probable that he won’t allow Newman to do so. Gotta impose that will!

And of those third down conversions against Grantham, a significant number of them have not only gone for first downs, but for touchdowns. I’m too lazy to research it but I’d be willing to bet that a majority of our scores in those 4 games have come on 3rd down

      I did the research

In Smart’s 3 games against Grantham’s defense we have scored 10 TDs. 7 of those TDs came on third down Wasn’t the case in the Belk bowl

I have only one friend/business acquaintance that is a Florida fan. I keep trying to explain 3rd and Grantham to him but he doesn’t understand

If he doesn’t understand 3rd and Grantham after last year’s Cocktail Party, then he’s just lying to you.

No joke. I have 6 cousins in Florida, and all are basically Gator fans; a few are quite rabid. I gigged them some on FB after last year’s game and they were acting like they should have won, and what happened, etc. I asked 2 questions: 1) how many third downs did the Dawgs convert? and 2) how much do you pay your DC?

I probably shouldn’t have been that pointed. They may eventually figure it out.

And not only touchdowns but touchdowns to win the game!

  3. I’m sure it’s been done before, but what was the opposing teams overall success rate while Mr. Coach Grantham was building his brand here at UGA? Do I even want to know?

    “What am I missing?”

Newman outgained Trask by 493 yards (combined passing & running), and totaled 32 TDs to Trask’s 29. Not huge margins, but it easily explains the difference between 10th and 14th. fu = inferiority complex.

’17 is the outlier under 50% that spoils the average conversion rate. But we all know how that turned out. Dawgs beat the shit out of that gator trash and the shark humper. Biggest ass whooping in 35 years. No matter what he does the rest of the season Newman simply needs to manage this game and limit turnovers. Dawgs D will take care of the rest.
    Fuck those motherfuckers.

I get tired of the Newman/Trask comparisons. Comparing QB play at UF vs QB play at the ACC’s equivalent of Vandy is not a real comparison. I get the Newman hype is overblown without him taking a snap, but that point can be made without an absurd comparison.

Kinda strange, the Dawgs failed against Grantham exactly 6 times each year whether they had 11 tries or 18 …..

He threw for more TD’s and INT’s but rushed more and had more rushing yards. He is comparable as a thrower and superior as a runner.

    Neither are Heisman candidates.
