Speaking of all that’s left is believing this really is the year of the Portal Master™, you’ve got to read this puff piece from Gator Land to get a taste of that belief.
The average unit ranking for Georgia is 2.14. The average unit ranking for Florida is 5.42. The Bulldogs have the same average per unit as Alabama who is picked to beat Florida in the SEC Championship.
Just looking at this and what the editors at Athlon Sports might be thinking, it seems this is either a huge endorsement of the coaching ability off Dan Mullen and his staff, or it is a huge indictment of the coaching ability of Kirby Smart and his staff.
Certainly there are other things to consider when picking winners and losers in the preseason like their schedule and who they might play before the big games, but their opinions on the players of each team and that level of difference should really be the biggest determining factor. It wasn’t in this case.
Fans of the orange and blue can only hope that the Athlon guys are right in what they think about how the season unfolds. Maybe a win by the Gators and a subsequent trip to the SEC Championship Game would make a lot of folks take a further look at the rosters and see that maybe they were a little closer talent wise.
Then maybe Mullen could pull a Steve Spurrier who made a habit of whipping Georgia every year in Jacksonville. Spurrier used to mock the recruiting acumen of Georgia back then and say things like this quip… “Why is it that during recruiting season they sign all the great players, but when it comes time to play the game, we have all the great players? I don’t understand that. What happens to them?”
Sure, that could happen. And then maybe monkeys will fly out of my ass.
I am so thankful for all these writers. Best thing that could happen to the Dawgs.

Did I miss the news that Ray Goff is pinch hitting for Kirby Smart this season?

It’s gonna be great to watch them fire coaches every 3-4 years chasing us and the idea of Spurrier and Corch.

There certainly will be no lack of bulletin board material for Kirby Smart in the WLOCP this year.

And then, realizing he just wrote a turd, tries to bury it by flagellating himself with a decades old quote from the OBS.

Maybe I’m a homer, but…..
Isn’t it more likely that Kirby makes a habit of whipping the Gators in Jacksonville?

The only thing you have to back up your wildly speculative hypothesis are the results since Kirby has been in Athens and the recruiting rankings. You are not taken into consideration the great coaching Mullen did at MSU where but for his heroics a couple of those 7-5 seasons could have been 6-6 or maybe 5-7. Also you omit the way Mullens teams have performed against Kirby, did you know that in 2008 when Mullen was the OC at Florida he beat a team that Kirby coached?
If Newman sucks and Trask doesn’t regress to the mean this year or even plays better and if Georgias defense is worse with the same players back and Florida’s defense is better with a lot of players missing then we are gonna have ourselves a hell of a game come Halloween.

While I actually think the Old Ball Coach was one of the greatest ‘on field’ coaches of all time; he was basically full of crap in talking about upcoming games, etc. And he was especially full of it when it came to Georgia. He had the better recruiting classes and he knew it and the rankings, even back then, would back that up. Just Spurrier being Spurrier.
It’s real simple… If Mullen loses this game (and I think he will) – then what’s next. That is 3 in a row to Georgia, with all the pundits saying this is his year.
What does he say to recruits. What does he say openingly and behind close doors to the press and most importantly, what does he say to the Gator Fan base, alumni and Athletic Department.
And will continue to say this… Watch out for Kentucky and I think they may lose to UT as well.

Exactly. “We can’t beat them, and we have a nice, never started till last year QB, who may or may not repeat his success and the team we can’t beat, besides having the number 1 defense, brought in the top grad transfer QB, a five star back up and another 5 star QB recruit in the runway, BUT I’ll out coach them!”.
Sure Dan.

Thank God Kirby knows and lives in the moment and the day much much more than worrying about a game many moons from now.
It’s starting to sound like when Georgia played Hawaii. Florida’s gonna come on the field and do some sort of Warrior dance to intimidate us while our linebackers stare with fixed gazes and scowls doing nothing but planning to bring much anger and unpleasantness

Hehehehe. I remember thinking if those coconut shuckers spent that time practicing football instead of that silly dance they’d have a better football team.
Soulja Boy, anyone?

I find it hilarious that Mullen is predicted to go to the SECCG for the first time in his decade plus HC career and yet Kirby is the one with all the pressure! It’s like Mullen just has to simply show up in 2020. So what happens when he doesn’t?

I going out on a limb here with my prediction. On Halloween, the Georgia Bulldogs will be a highly motivated team when they take the field against the Ditch Lizards from Hogtown.

I am also glad the writers are setting FU up for a fall, and pissing all over our guys’ legs, it can only help our effort, and focus. The logic is screwy, if Mullet were that good as a HC, wouldn’t we have heard from him before? He has won nothing, zilch. Not only has he never coached for any sort of title in a meaningful game, he hasn’t really come close. This after about 11 years, the guy has an ofer in the W column. What are these people smoking?
I mean he will beat Kirby one day, and he may even win a division title, but he hasn’t come close yet, and he certainly isn’t close to being competitive for an SEC title. The gap has broadened, not closed. When does he get held accountable? How long does he get before people stop with the excuses? He reminds me of Malzahn (without even his accomplishments) and that gives me confidence.

What do gators dream of
When they take a little gator snooze.
Do they dream of mauling Bulldogs
Or Danny Mullen in a gator suit
Don’t you worry your ugly leather heads
We’re going to kick you back to gainesville and your little gator beds
And then we’re gonna find your best friend dan
And you’ll keep repeating to yourself that he’s really the man
Dan Dan Dan Dan oh Danny Dan Dan
But if he’s been destroyed by the Bulldogs on a rampage…
Well, then you’re shit out of luck
