You can also forgive the rest of the country for perpetually laughing at Georgia fans, Brandon. Besides the items listed, Kirby took Alabama’s recruiting board with him to use against Alabama when he left, took Glenn Schumann and Mel Tucker to run Saban’s defense, implemented the Fourth Quarter program, started a public spat over Maurice Smith, and has done his level best to recreate Alabama’s fan experience in Athens. He also stole Jake Fromm and then Carson Beck, and for both we are thankful.
His first mistake was assuming that a guy working at a site called Dawgnation was actually speaking for Georgia fans as a collective group.
Man, that “Kirby took Alabama’s recruiting board” still gets a work out, doesn’t it? I guess they think he’s too dumb to remember what he worked on continuously for like three years without a written reminder.

The reason they’re so insecure, and they’ll NEVER admit it, is because they remember their 15 years wandering in the desert between 1993-2008. They remember firing Stallings and then having nothing for how many coaches until Saban showed up?
They believe they have the God-given Right to be the Number One Best Program in the Nation, not just the SEC. They believe it deep in their souls. It’s their destiny. Their birthright.
But they remember what it was like to be everyone’s bitch, because it takes someone like Saban now to win in that recruiting wasteland known as Alabama. They don’t have Georgia, Florida, or Texas’s natural recruiting resources. They’re basically Tennessee. They have some good players, but they feed off the 4 and 5-stars surrounding their state because their state doesn’t produce enough blue chip talent to make it work.
This Josh Chatham guy really is an asshole, because the minute Saban retires you know the first call he’d want the Alabama AD to make, and it would be to Kirby Smart.
Don’t let this guy fool you. He remembers. Without Saban, without someone who can build and maintain a recruiting behemoth, Bama would be lucky to win 8 games a year. The CFB world has changed.

I suspect some of them also remember that Saban wasn’t the first choice — they really wanted RichRod (AD and fans), so not only do they know how key Saban is to where they are, they know well their track record in coach hiring is iffy overall

The thing is, if you’re Bama you have to make them say no.
You don’t think Kirby isn’t frustrated that McGarity refuses to just put a Masters Facilities Plan in place, that he has to keep getting what he believes he needs in these piecemeal plans that keep us behind the 8-ball?
Yes, Dabo never leaves Clemson. He’s replaced Ford as their greatest. He goes to Bama, and he’s at best their third best.
But Kirby? Part of me thinks Kirby’s already had enough of McGarity. It would take a lot to get him to leave Athens, but unlike us, Bama has proven time and time again they will spend whatever it takes.

I believe McGarity retires next June based on all indications. I’ve given him grief over the years, but he has given Kirby everything he has asked for. We’ve done a lot of it without crippling amounts of debt.
Has it been as fast as everyone would like? No because we were starting from a position of weakness on the facilities front.

We came from a place of weakness and stayed in a place of weakness. A Master Plan for Facilities provides the best and yes, over time, cheapest way of committing to facilities upgrades possible. For example:
McGarity was given a plan for Tennis Center improvements his first year on the job. It was $10-15M to get it done then. McGarity said no. In doing so, he screwed us because a few years later the NCAA pulled all future Tournaments from Athens because the Tennis Center wasn’t up to their standards. How much money did that terrible decision cost the Athletic Association and all of the Athens businesses that lost out on what the NCAA Tennis Tournament brings in? It’s a lot of money McGarity cost us.
Fast forward to 2019 when McGarity finally approves Tennis Center improvements in the $20-25M range.
So not only did this asshole cost us the NCAA Tennis Tournament with his lack of foresight and terrible leadership, he now costs the AA and donors an extra $10M in inflated construction costs.
If he had put in a Facilities Master Plan in his first two years in office and we did all the necessary improvements then, we would’ve saved so much money. Doing it piecemeal ALWAYS costs more and it ALWAYS leaves us playing catchup from behind.
Fuck McGarity and his lack of vision and his complete and total ruination of the Georgia Athletic Association. We don’t even sniff the Top-10 of the Director’s Cup anymore, and it’s 100% because of him.

Oh, and the way he’s always bended over backwards to be the SEC Office’s bitch boy and NEVER getting anything in return for us also makes him the single worst AD Georgia’s ever had.
He permanently unbalanced our schedule by having Auburn, Tennessee, and Tech either always on the road or at home together by giving-in and letting the SEC give Auburn two straight home games (thus enabling them Prayer at Jordan Hare as well) and never did a damn thing to get it back. He should’ve told them to pound sand and make Vandy give Ole Miss two straight games in Oxford.
And then he gives in to Auburn and the SEC Office AGAIN and allows them to move Auburn away from November, throwing away over 100 years of tradition.
Saying “Fuck McGarity,” doesn’t truly describe how much I hate that feckless, milquetoast son of a bitch. If he were standing in my house right this second I’d gut punch him without a second thought.

It’s not whether or not he’s smart enough to remember, it’s whether or not he’s smart enough to not help Bama. The only way this story holds water is if Bama was lying to recruits about where they were on the board. If the board and what Bama coaches were saying we’re the same, Kirby was just delivering old news to these kids.

Whenever the Gumps ignorant arrogance starts to irritate me I simply remind myself who they are. It’s not as if I live a life of opulence. But at least I don’t live in the Tuscaloosa area and I have enough teeth that my toothbrush isn’t literally that.

Bama and Georgia aren’t, and yet all they do is talk about us. And I don’t buy the media narrative that Bama and Georgia are now “rivals” simply because Kirby is our coach and he coached there and then we played two close games.
It takes much more than that over four years to make a real rivalry.

Any time a coach leaves for a school that’s likely in your path for your goals, it’s going to happen.
The only reason Pruitt doesn’t get the same treatment is (a) they prefer to hate Fulmer and (b) they don’t see Tennessee as an obstacle (lol).

That wasn’t the point I was trying to drive home (and did). It’s that if you really believe you’re King Shit of the Mountain, then you call Dabo first, even knowing he says no, and then you call Kirby second.

You call Kirby Smart, and you should want your AD to call Kirby Smart. Paint a rosier picture of T-town where the AD doesn’t constantly stand in his way for immediate improvements unlike Athens where the asshole who runs B-M does everything piecemeal so we’re always behind. Where they spend money, not hoard it. Make Kirby say no.
But they couldn’t even admit that. They couldn’t admit that’s what they would want, even though it is what they would want.

Also Kirby wanted Cochran from the jump. Theyre really good friends. Saban tried to throw money at the problem.. all he had to do is give Cochran an on field position. So Kirby is trying to emulate saban by giving Cochran a job that saban would not give him.
